Not really: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Shell-Rotella-550019921-Synthetic-Diesel/dp/B005CHT4W6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458761743&sr=8-1&keywords=shell+rotella+t6]Amazon.com: Shell Rotella (550019921) T6 5W-40 Full Synthetic, Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil (CJ-4) - 1 Gallon: Automotive[/ame]

Generally $21 on Amazon with no sale. Subscribe and it's between $16-18 or so. Prime gets you free shipping, if you have it (and if you don't... why not?!). At the moment, there's also a $5 MIR (and free one-day Prime shipping...), so final price is more on the order of $16 shipped.

Is this the preferred oil for these subys?

I come from the Jeeperz world, where it's royal purple or amzoil or go home... I don't want any of my new scoo B friends to make fun of me now... lmmfao

As long as you aren't using Mobil 1 you should be ok... I personally feel Rotella is a cheap walmart brand of oil so I use Motul.. but alot of people here have success with the Rotella it seems like

03 WRB WRX (RIP)

04 JBP STI (sold)

07 DGM Legacy GT (RIP)

12 OBP STI (DD)

just because you can buy it at walmart doesnt make it cheap oil. there are a ton of oil analysis reports and testing to show the oil is a quality choice. bobistheoilguy has a lot of info in that department. I run it in three of the subarus and two motorcycles in our garage, and have also done so on previous vehicles.

I agree with your stance on Mobil 1 ;) and Motul is also a good choice. If money was no object - I'd run redline.

A lot of us use Rotella, but pretty much any modern synthetic oil with a proper OCI will be fine and mostly indistinguishable from another in engine longevity. If money was no obstacle, I'd use Motul or Amsoil. They just cost too much.

Speaking of Amazon subscribe, would you recommend any of the filters they have listed there?

That link sends me to amazon's home page. Maybe a new link, or filter brand and part numbers that were there?

Edit: I went to amazon to see what they had for subscribe and save. If the link below works and doesn't expire, the only filter I'd really go with is the fram extraguard 9715. Though at $5.35 subscribe and save, it's not a very good deal. At that price, I'd just go with a 6 pack of oem subaru filters which are better than the ph9715.
