  1. Subarus are not great money-to-pace platforms for the amateur motorsport stuff I'm interested in (autocross, time trials). I've already sunk way too much money into this car, and I'm looking to mostly avoid continuing the sunk-cost fallacy road I've been walking
  2. Took it for its last event for the season yesterday, had fun. Put it away for the winter at the parents place. Thinking the time has come to move on. Will likely be cleaning it up next spring and listing it for sale... you heard it here first!
  3. Took it to the SCCA ProSolo in Brunswick, ME this weekend. Didn't do all that well, but damned if it wasn't a fun time! As always, stupid old Subaru problems bit me on the way up... lost the clutch pedal during the drive up in stop-and-go traffic on the highway. Bled it on the side with help from the GF and managed to make it to the site (after also popping the IC/charge hose off and needing to limp the car due to a crappy hose clamp). Thankfully the car made it through its runs for my GF and myself with no issues. The new tires (265/35 kumho v730s on 18x10.5 ET15 RPF1s) feel awesome. Just need to figure out this clutch pedal issue.
  4. Mostly finished with getting flares and meaty wheels (5x100 18x10.5 ET15 RPF1s with 265/35 Kumho V730s) installed. Also slapped on some new brake pads (Hawk HP+ in front, HPS5.0 in rear).
  5. Would you be willing to sell that grey connector/harness from the back of the radio? It's the FM antenna adapter (grey 2-pin plug to a coax jack on the back of the head unit).
  6. I think I'm unfortunately out of this one. Too much working against me to make this trip with work and Father's Day plans. Perhaps next time, or if there's another one (I remember reading musings about a Finger Lakes area meetup as well).
  7. Unsure if I'll be going to this now... Will be in San Diego for a conference for work the entire week, flying back home on a red-eye Thursday night. Will know closer to the date. Still need to figure out lodging; would much prefer to crash on a bed or couch than a tent.
  8. Haven't gotten any local offers, just a couple that would involve breaking it apart and shipping. Would much rather sell in-person, to be honest.
  9. My WTB for this is a fixed-caliper brake upgrade (Brembos i think is about it without going $$$$). Another WTB would be actual racing seats + belts. I'll be bringing my spare Tomei ELH, but that's at the moment pending to Enlight. I don't think I actually have much else sitting around that needs to go.
  10. Noted... also, on further reading, seems I don't want to actually bother with the STi MC swap, since the swap is to move to the pre-VDC one from the '04-'07 STi. Unsure if the '08+ STi brake booster is worth swapping for. Perhaps I'll start with just the master cylinder brace and perhaps adjust the pedal clevis pin to see if it improves the pedal feel enough.
  11. Done, put in $35 for the run. FYI @Enlight, the WhatsApp link you posted for the meet announcements is not a whatsapp link at all, just a name
  12. Took the LGT to the first 2023 NER SCCA autocross on Sunday. Cold tires was hilarious on the start, couldn't go WOT at the start without the car wanting to spin all four tires and go sideways Been looking into brake upgrades for my LGT so I'll feel more comfortable on track... STI master cylinder and brace is obvious, but undecided on what (or if) I want to upgrade to better hardware itself (namely, to a fixed-caliper system). I'd really like to stick with 17s, so I think that rules out '04 STi Brembos?
  13. Seeing this now... I could be convinced (should be free that weekend anyway). Before I dig through all 12 pages, has everyone that isn't camping booked lodging?
  14. Yup, I noticed that too. Door was certainly fully closed, but perhaps the lock and the chassis have developed some slop since 2007.
  15. That's just to get the camera a slightly better view. Definitely makes no difference in terms of aero
  16. Looks like it's not possible to post ads yet... Trying to re-post my currently open ad in the 2005-2009 section, and I get this error message:
  17. bleh, things I should do but am too lazy and too much in denial about Autocrossed it on Sunday. One of the 3 people in SM had a broken car (drove to grid, but then didn't start), so I let them co-drive my car for the day. 14 runs total, oil still at F at the end of the day (was just a touch above F in the morning). No puff of blue smoke when I started it in the morning, either... Here's my fastest (still slow) run. For reference, SM class winner ('07 STi on 295 RT660s, stock turbo + tune) was in the 58sec range compared to my 63.0
  18. Put a JmP VF46 Custom in the car around 120k miles to my memory... chassis has 174k right now (new motor has ~4k to my memory). That would be a huge bummer, but I suppose it's possible I mangled the head gaskets when assembling the motor. What's the telltale sign of a leaking HG (between cylinder and oil galleys)? I'm not experiencing anything related to losing/burning coolant, so it would just be oil related... perhaps I check the plugs and see if a particular cylinder/bank has abnormal signs of oil burning?
  19. Signed up to AutoX it again this Sunday, wheeee! In other unfortunate news: car has been puffing a cloud of oil smoke when starting after sitting for a while. After sitting days/weeks, it's a reasonably large blue-ish cloud, between AutoX runs is a small white-ish cloud. Both smell of oil. New motor is consuming a little oil, but it doesn't seem to be happening during autox/track, and it's nothing egregious to my understanding (less than 1qt after ~2-3 autoX events and 2 track nights). Still concerning and hoping there's nothing actually wrong with the new motor.
  20. You can also read the codes directly from the dash. I forget the exact procedure, but it's something like turn the key to ON, flip the headlights on, press the dash cycle button (the one that cycles the info display between the different pages) 4 times, flip the headlights off, dash button 4x times, headlight back on, etc. It will cycle through P codes (ECU), C codes (ABS/VDC), and T codes if you have a 5EAT. edit: Guess it's the whole 4th gen Legacy that can do it:
  21. Excellent... glad this update has gone through at long last. Only gripe so far is that there's no dark theme... any chance that's in the works?
  22. Stupid question: but your slave is attached to the transmission and the tranny + motor + clutch fork are all installed and bolted together, etc.? The pedal won't return without the pressure plate actively pushing it back up.
  23. Definitely not swaybars. Sound is periodic with speed of the car, at low speed it only occurs when steering is near full-lock. Haven't had time to do any further diagnosis, but to my ear and to a couple of the other guys in paddock, it sounded like CV axles on their way out. Found pictures from my track night @ Thompson last month: https://www.clarusmultimedia.com/client-galleries/sports-193/motorsports/2022-scca-track-events---tnia-and-ttnt/05242022-tnia-thompson-speedway/?sub=a077ede1b08510b9ba6722c157ba9aea Should also have some from Palmer last week at some point, too. These photogs really do a good job of making us novices look fast
