Call me crazy, but I'd rather have the SLK

A new Corvette ZO6 is just as fast and is 1/8 of the price of the SLR ($475,000). That makes the Corvette seem like a awesome deal - if I had the money for a SLR I'd get a ZO6 ($65,000), new BMW M5 ($85,000), STI ($33,000), Ferrari F430 Spyder ($210,000) and a Porsche Cheyenne Twin Turbo ($90,000). I'd much rather have these five cars than one car I'd be affraid of scratching.

Umm....if you have $475K to spend on something as trivial as a car, you probably already have those cars. This isn't about perceived value at all.....if it was, who would buy a Bentley, RR or Maybach? The SLR plays to this crowd...

Ahhh just curious WT? has the owner done to the hood/bonnet on the SLK55AMG, that is just SO WRONG..... SO WRONG.

SO WRONG?!?! To put an SLR engine in a SLK? It was kind of necessary to fit it in that little car....

I would much rathAr have Civic Dual Exhaust Twin Super Turbo with 800hp+15HP (Turbonator) instead of deh Overprice LGT. I could afford a used civic, a geo tracker, an isuzu amigo, and a suzuki sidekick...

in all seriousness, different strokes different folks. This is not a debate, we are witnessing pictures of an amazing car, how many cars you could add together to make that MSRP, no one really cares, and if they do they already also know that. Like PatGT said, people aren't using this as their only car. They already have those cars you listed above... but still that does not make the power of the TURBONATOR any less.

A partner of my dad has one. He also has a CL55, SL55, S55, E55, ML55, G55(the one year they made them 469hp) CLK55, and no, no SLK, no C and no CLS.(he doesn't like small cars he says, don't ask me:confused: ) I don't think he's worried about getting a scratch on any of them

Damn, thats a lot of "55"s...

Arent the E55 and S55 a little bit redundant? And the ML and G55s? and the CL and CLK55s?

I guess the guy likes two of everything as long as it is a mercedes V8...

He doesn't like the smaller ones he says. And the S55 and E55 are different in that the E55 is a smaller quicker one, the S55 is for the family, The CL is the Touring Coupe, the CLK is the Sporty one(and its a cab which seats 4), the ML is practical and the G is the offroading beast. I would've much rather have just been fine with one E and one CLK but its his money not mine. He is nothing compared to some of the people in the East though like that guy whose SLK has an SLR engine (shown above there) and the Sultan of Brunei, who enough power to have ferrari make a special color of each of their cars just for him, in addition to his gold dipped engine and his diamond encrusted steering wheel.

exactly...that guy has no sense...I think any real car enthusiast would enjoy cars from more than one brand.

The only exceptions i can see is if you worked for the company or were building a collection.

I actually came across one of these on I-95 in Ft Lauderdale a few weeks back, while on my CBR1000rr, it's fast and even more expensive looking in person...I got behind him and he took off a few times with me following and they have a great sound, but hell they better for a half a million dollars!

Uhh who said the AMGs were his only cars? those are just his benzes. He also has a C4s Cab a Range Rover and more. For some reason I don't think he was willing to wait for the 65s to come out and would rather keep all his 55s plus the SLR which is a hella faster than the 65s

But...The 65's have more torque than anything available today. I believe that they put down 700+ lb/ft of torque - that is absurd. Putting all that power to the rear wheels can't be translated properly into 1/4 mile times because they can't launch with all the power that they have. Once they are going, though, the AMG 65 models are quicker than the SLR - and at least $250,000 less (about what a F430 Spyder goes for with the dealer markups).

The new Bugatti was supposed to be on sale more than two years ago will have 900+ lb/ft but it's all wheel drive and will do 0-62 in 2.5 seconds and hit 186 MPH in 16.8 seconds, 17 seconds faster than the $450,000 Carrera GT (according to the latest Autoweek). That is what I call crazy fast.

That is awesome! Not worth 1.2 million dollars but still awesome.
