oldskoolbiker Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I finally got the car back after it spending the last 6 months at Moore Automotive. After the last engine rebuild I had done at IAG barely lasted a year and was beyond rebuild. I decided to just go all out and have the engine built up to withstand the Track Day's I like to go to. And in true sleeper fashion, I instructed Moore to keep everything stock looking as possible. I ended up buying this engine that was for sale on NASIOC. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2632081 The initial tune it did 411 WHP @21 PSI on 93 pump gas. But the "real tune" will come later after the engine is fully broken in. I'll be taking it to VIR this weekend so I'll see how it does on track. Below is my current mod list, and a few pictures. WRX USA Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Very nice! I really like the oil cooler using the OEM engine cover and TMIC location.
wobbegong Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Sweet - Really like what you've done inside with the dashboard as well, tasteful not tacky. Nice.
INVNO1 Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So, I REALLY wanted to hate on this! LOL! Mainly because your car is over 400whp and mine is not done yet, but there is NO way I could hate on something this flipping sweet!!!! AWESOME setup, Dude!!! Mine should be there soon!
gordata Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Awesome sleeper built!! Can't wait for the videos Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lingling1337 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Very nice. Nothing better than beating up on Mustangs in a Subie wagon
oldskoolbiker Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 I'm at VIR this weekend. It's hot here 95 degrees at the track. I spent the first 3 sessions working out bugs, but the last session I did a lap of 2:20 and hit 143 MPH. My cornering was very bad though and car was understeering a lot, so hopefully I'll shave a little off time off tomorrow. The high heat really doesn't help. I should have some pics and video's pretty soon. Oh and a rock cracked my windshield. Annoying....
oldskoolbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Video of my fastest lap at VIR this weekend. 2:17 lap with top speed of 140 MPH. It was hot and sunny with temps over 90 degrees. That didn't help with car power or grip.
Enlight Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I second the 6spd. his build deserves it. damn. Methinks it's only a matter of time until it becomes necessity. Sounds great. Oldskoolbiker, are you heel-toeing on those downshifts? muFreight.co A JDM Container Sharing Service from Japan to NYC Website | Instagram | Email Bessie II's Thread
oldskoolbiker Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 I'm fine with the 5 Speed for now until it breaks then I'll upgrade to a 6 speed. As far as heel toe, no I haven't gotten it down yet on the track. I've been practicing on the street, but it's not second nature yet.
Rhitter Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Any issues with getting the power down through the corners? I remember reading that Boxkita mentioned at 340ish whp coming out of turns he couldn't get the full power down and needed a LSD. My OBXT build
oldskoolbiker Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 I do occasionally get some wheel spin when I get on it out of the corners, but it's not bad.
Nightmaresmk Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Any updates on power or how it's doing with that monster motor.
boxkita Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Any issues with getting the power down through the corners? I remember reading that Boxkita mentioned at 340ish whp coming out of turns he couldn't get the full power down and needed a LSD. Watching the video, it looks like boost comes in at too high rpm so the lack of LSD never becomes an issue. If you shift down one more gear, the turbo will still be on boost and you'll be able to accelerate sooner/faster coming out of the corners. If you want the 5 speed to last with that much power, don't rush the shifts. I looked at this motor setup before deciding to spend less on my build. I'm sure my 5mt would have failed a lot sooner on this build. What's the rattling noise when you get on the gas? Is that the turbo spooling up? Build my car Boxkita Track days
oldskoolbiker Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 @Nightmaresmk: The car made 434 WHP and 430 WTQ when I got the final tune done. This was on just 93 pump gas. I'm sure I could make more on e85, but I'd need a bigger fuel pump and bigger fuel lines for that. I'm satisfied with the power level. My only complaint is it's bit slow to spool up. It really doesn't kick in until 3700 RPM or so. @boxkita: Not sure what the rattling sound is you're talking about unless it's the sound of the EWG you're referring to. I am getting some suspension rattling, seems ball joints got a little play. Putting in a new Whiteline kit in a couple of weeks. As far as the shifts at VIR, I was short shifting a bit to keep the RPM's a little lower as it was about 95 degrees that day and that helped keep the engine cooler. Couple of spots like the oak tree turn 2nd gear would be ideal but it's difficult to smoothly get it down to second so I usually just stay in third (although that's like a 35-40 MPH turn). So I just need more practice. I recently made my brake pedal a little higher to help with heel toe downshifting. The car currently has a few minor issues which still need some attention: Suspension Rattle (need new ball joints) Front Camber: Driving one day the camber on my drivers front went from negative to positive. Took it in and turns out the Fortune Coilovers aren't drilled to accept the eccentric camber bolt. Moore had just put in a straight through bolt and expected just the friction of the bolt being tight to hold the camber. Obviously that didn't work. So when I'm getting the new ball joints they are going to drill out the mounting holes on the coilovers to accept the camber bolt. No idea why the Fortune's didn't make the hole big enough on the one side to accept the camber bolt. Coolant Overflow Tank is too small and overflowed at the track. Need to get a larger tank made. OEM tank won't fit anymore because of FMIC piping. Headlight fogging up: I had a HID conversion done on my headlight and had the orange reflectors removed. Now one of the headlights is getting water in it when it rains. I already took it off and put silicone around the seal, but that didn't work, so need to take it off again and do it really good next time. Right now I'm planning to take the car to VIR in Sept and Summit Point in November.
boxkita Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 the noise I heard sounded like the turbo. My hta68 makes noise when spooling. Having to get to 3700rpm to be on boost with the larger turbo (side effect), you'll want to be 1 gear lower to keep the turbo on boost going thru a corner. The long delay in acceleration coming out of the corners is turbo lag. If you went to a smaller turbo, you'd spool sooner. Or you can change your tuning to make a flatter torque curve (more or a plateau) or move the peak earlier in the rpm band. If VIR is your favorite track, then adjust your tuning to match the track. Drilling out the fortune's - get Vorschlag / similar camber plates. You'll get far more adjustability without hacks. The eccentric camber bolt is a hack :-) If you soften the rear sway bar and stiffen front one, you should push less coming out of the corners. KillerB makes a nice overflow tank as well as an upper tank. Spendy but nice work Build my car Boxkita Track days
cBax Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 My fa 510s on my last car also had huge holes for the lower bolts to the knuckle. I used an eccentric pointed in + camber direction and wrenched the hell out of it. Nice car! '05 Outback XT www.facebook.com/baxleysspeedshop www.baxleysspeedshop.com

Moderators BarManBean Posted August 11, 2015 Moderators Posted August 11, 2015 Nice video, Delmar. I'm not much of a suspension junkie, but do the Fortune's really match up with the rest of your build and the track time that your car sees? Edit: So many people whining about the sound of your car. Turbos make that noise even with IWGs (mine does with a 16g) and it's completely normal. So many youtube trolls who have zero clue what they are hearing / talking about.
