Alright so I'm not gonna do a big update tonight. I will post pics of the carnage progress on Thursday night after I do something actually measurable.

The night started by working on timing belts. After a phone call to JmP, we were confident things were lined up correctly and we got the crank pulley and timing belt off just fine. Up next is the cam bolts. Managed to get driver's side intake off. Moved to driver's side exhaust. Totally shredded my 10mm hex. I was having none of that shit. I mean WWTD? So I set out on a mission. I failed at this mission. I managed to hit AutoZone, O'Reilly's, Lowe's and Home Depot between 9:35 and 10:00. Of course, no one had a solid 10mm hex. Got one on order from Amazon. It'll be here in two days. Prime FTW.

You managed to find one on Amazon?? I searched while we were talking about it, couldn't find one, at least, by itself. Did you get the Sunex or the GearWrench?

Please tell me WWTD doesn't mean what I think it does..

Sunex.

It means exactly what you think it does.

It was too early in the night and I hadn't accomplished all I set out to today. I said to my self, "Self, would MrTris be okay with me just giving up on this?"

And then myself reminded itself, "You're a man, and you were meant to do this. This is guy shit."

And I remembered all the streed cred I'm gonna get from the kids once I finish this, and I went on my futile hunt for that damn bit all over town.

Now I'm watching Modern Family. Whatever. I think I'm gonna go take off the oil pan or something.

Welp, I blew my was today. I spent four grand in about a half hour's time and I now have most all my remaining parts on the way. I went way beyond my build though. I'll post all the details in the OP for my running tally at some point. Now I gotta scrounge the house for spare change along with guns and whatever else I can find to sell for a buck.

Use the guns to make money.

Y'know, robbing convenience stores and shit.

Oh, wait. No getaway car, huh?

Bahahah. That's always an option I suppose. I'd rather get into contract killings though I think. Assassination and sneaking around in the dark is more my style. Plus, I've already got the money invested in suppressors. Might as well use them. Need anyone whacked?

And yeah, the'98 OBS has way to many rattles to escape from any damn place. It does just keep on running and running though. 275k on it at the moment.

Yep. Bombproof little engine. I did HGs at about 100k right when I bought it but that's about it other than fluids and such since.

When they say, "They don't make 'em like they used to", they're talking about the EJ22. That motor was probably the best motor they've ever made.

I miss my 99 impreza L only because of the EJ22. Other than that it was a massive turd but it was my turd.

Material Tests on Ringland Failure Piston

I should have held off and purchased a wagon instead of the spec.B

Late, but as promised, here is the big update for this week. There was some delay as I ruined the previously mentioned 10mm hex, but my hardened single piece 10mm showed up a couple days later and, by God, that block came apart whether it wanted to or not (spoiler alert: it didn't really want to).

I did take off the oil pan on Tuesday as I said before. Crazy shit here. It was held on by all of three bolts....every other hole was empty.

It was definitely full of metal shit.

AVCS bolts were next. This was my breaker bar setup. Its a piece of top rail for a chain link fence; about 4' long. Took one bolt and an attempt on the second before shredding the hex all to hell.

I probably should have taken some pictures during the process of removing the heads, but I didn't. That wasn't very helpful of me for others in the future. Sorry. From talking to Tris, it doesn't sound like its the norm, but my head bolts were incredibly hard to get off. Once I had the hardened 10mm, the AVCS bolts weren't so bad. But these damn 12 point bastards shredded multiple pieces of my socket set. There was one other Snap-On extension destroyed that belonged to my buddy. It left with him before the photo.

They eventually came off though. Cams and associated pieces are wrapped and ready to go to the head shop on Monday. Both the foreign car specialist in town and the dealership recommended the same shop so I figure that's my go to guy.

Not much remarkable to see here.

And this is all trash....

So earlier this week, the four grand I spent...

EJ25 shortblock

BC BR Coilovers

Cobb Catted DP

AVO Front Underbody Brace

AVO Rear Underbody Braces

Mutegi Lug Nuts (free with coilovers)

Mishimoto Magnetic Oil Drainplug

AVO Turbo Inlet

DEI Ti Wrap

Walbro 225lph Fuel Pump

I'm up to a little over 7k spent now. I'm a bit out of control. Don't kid yourselves into thinking I can actually afford all of this.
