AMileHighLGT's engine swap journal

no it is not that bad, i have far less particles. at this point the options are pretty limited on cleaning all that shit out no matter what you do. like i said i babied it the last two miles or so to work and then towed it home. I have been on top of checking oil daily and up until today when i pulled the stick there was never a hint of metal. Today when i checked it was still full, at the very bottom 1/16th " of the dip stick had some glitter to it. Im running a purolator filter hope i get what i paid for.

video on the dead phone, will upload it here tomorrow. heres the single shot i got of the turbine before the phone died.

Can you see contact marks on the exhaust housing or compressor housing? If you see any marks the turbo is a goner. I cannot open the videos you posted from work. Hopefully you can salvage the engine but if you see metal particles in the oil you may have some problems. The filter will catch some metal but not all of it.

I'm already aware that the turbo is a goner, dp was pulled last night. I will have the turbo out tomorrow for a closer look.

As for the you need a new SB shit, no. Don't think so. I'm not worried about the block. I'm not worried about the main and rod bearings.

I'm more concerned about the camshaft caps, those get fuct by metal and the head is done. No bearings to replace up there.

With that said, here's my plan.

Once i get the pan off, and see if there is any large metal, if so A full tear down to clean everything out. If not, its getting three oil flushes. Then three oil changes. Then I will replace the oil supply line filter in the ipt line. I will have already put a new filter on It before new turbo gets fired up.

New ocvs

New oil cooler

New avcs sprockets (depending on how they look when I open them up, can clean them if have too.)

I've successfully cleaned out two of these at work after turbo failure, and I never tore them down.

Sorry for yesterdays rant. I appreciate all your help, everyone.

Just not trying to roll out the jump to conclusions mat just yet.

Turbo is out. Cold side looks like the hot side. I'll update with pics later, pulling the pan now after a short beir break.

I was trying to be helpful as I am a master tech you asshole. I'm aware you are doing a short block but you may have issues with the heads and will have to flush everything oil related or replace it but since you know all go ahead and put it together and watch it fall apart in a short time. With the questions your asking you shouldn't be touching a engine to begin with.

With my rant friday, i am sorry, i appreciate your advice. I agree about the heads. Bad week at work and the turbo going was the cherry on top.

Your entitled to the opinion, but not one question supports your claim that I shouldn't touch engines.

Spoke with JMP last night, the custom vf40 is very interesting.

And it's very nice, too! (Ask me how I know!)

Seriously, it's probably the best option out there. Haven't had anyone come back from a test drive and say they didn't like it.

Considering the price I may end up going that route. However, the variable of what kind of condition the block is in weighs heavily on me..

Going to pull valve covers and see what it looks like in the head, clean it up, pull the oil pump and replace with new, clean oil galleries, replace the oil cooler and clean out the oil pan and windage tray this weekend. At that time I should have a better idea as to what route to go.

Had some time friday night to pull the valve covers, pulled the oil pickup, windage tray and both ocvs.

Did not have any paste in the cylinder heads.

All that can be seen for any bearing metal in the heads.

JMP shipped the turbo yesterday, eta is 2/3 or 2/4.

Also, the tmic, bpv, both ocv's, oil pump, ocv/turbo oil feed line and both intake cam sprockets are in hand.

Still waiting on oil cooler, and avo silicone tb hose

Seriously considering building my own turbo charger and pass side ocv oil line out of stainless steel line and an fittings.
