Well. lack of updates lately, sorry.

I got my heads back one week ago, spent a little bit of time with the engine this past weekend, ended up breaking the small, curved portion of pcv hose that connects to the large port on the block, so at that point i am done until i acquire that hose, which by the way was damn near impossible to locate the part number. Finally found it yesterday, without the help of our oh so helpful dealer here in denver.

Its too damn cold to be working on it this week, the high temp for today, is fkn cold, 10* if were lucky. Inside the shop this morning its a balmy 42* and thats with all the furnaces cranked. Supposed to warm up this weekend, will work then.

While there is still time, buy a set of ARP head studs. It sucks having to pull the engine again because a head gasket leaks. It's not so much the probability of it happening, but the pain in the ass to fix it.
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Yup, if nothing else, for the ease of install. Good, cheap insurance against head leakage.

I have them ordered, waiting on their arrival.. Really didnt want to spend another $180 on this project, but at this point I have no effing choice. On Sunday I went to assemble the engine, was planning on entirely assembled. However, i went to bolt my heads on, got through the first step in torquing the NEW head bolts, no problem, 30 ft/lbs.

Step two was 70.1 ft/lbs. First bolt got nowhere near 'tight' enough, at least it never felt that way. Damn thing snapped on me. Sheared the bolt maybe 1/4" into the threads. It is sitting in the block still, recessed about 1.5" in the bolt hole.

Needless to say, my old ass snap on torque wrench is now shit.

Bought a new torque wrench on monday from snapon, also purchased a damn expensive bolt extractor with guides, hopefully the remainder in the block comes out nice and easy, so this is my weekend project. If all goes well, i hope and pray, and maybe even cry a little to get this thing wrapped up next weekend over the 4 day holiday.

So you had some compression on the head gasket...you might want to replace that them or at least that one.

Do every thing you can to make sure the threads in the block are clean. The studs should thread in and bottom out by hand.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
