  1. Personally I would never take a CUV/SUV out into the woods, and certainly not up those kinds of mountain grades with leaves on top of wet clay, with just AS tires on it. I'm sure a typical, uneducated, suburban family wouldn't even give that a second's thought. That the family got as far up that mountain pull as they did, on AS tires, is pretty amazing in inself. Same would apply even more to the rough trail that TFLC took the Outback up. But the CVT is one of the reasons I'm still looking at a 13-14 3.6R Outback with 5EAT.

  3. ^This is what I found with mine as well. There was a lot of dirt-impregnated oil above the OC itself and streaked down the bottom of the block and alongside the oil pan, but no noticeable drips when parked.
  4. Moved your post to the Wheel FAQ thread. Short answer, no they don't fit STI wheels after 2004 will not fit your Legacy without wheel adapters. The 2014 STI wheels have a bolt pattern (PCD) of 5x114.3 and your Legacy hubs require a PCD of 5x100. In 2015, Subaru changed the hubs on the Legacy platform (Legacy and Outback) to 5x114.3 PCD. Subaru also changed the WRX wheels to 5x114.3 starting in 2014. You could get 15-20mm thick conversion adapters to make them fit, but then you're also changing the offset (ET) and that moves the wheel further from your hub and closer to your inner fender. And 15mm is the thinnest I would consider as anything less than that and you don't have a lot of thread depth for your wheels to bolt into. Depending on what size tire you would run, you may even have rubbing on your inside fenders which would require you to pull your fenders.
  5. Usually when your starter is making noise, it's also cranking the engine. That sounds more like a low battery, corroded terminals, or a bad connection to your starter. Is your alternator putting out a proper charge? Probably a good idea to check all of that, pull the starter and use the walk-through to disassemble and lube your starter.
  6. Now that I think about it, AIR, the HH inpinged on the sandwich adapter. They fit with the OC, just not the OC + the SA.
  7. I actually limit pixel density when I PDF. It can make doc to big to host. One of the reasons i put the link in the PDF.
  8. ^This. When I converted to the KB Performance Oil Pan (OPan) and Holy Header setup, my DEFI sandwich adapter, which worked flawlessly for over 12 years with zero leaks (the gasket on the oil cooler (OC) did leak and was replaced under warranty) no longer fit, especially with the extended Subaru (and Mazda) Tokyo Roki black filters. Incidentally, the DEFI setup is the $700+ factory 3-gauge (OT, OP, BP) accessory, so Subaru ensured it met their standards. So after the under engine KB upgrades, I put the DEFI OP sensor in the OP warning sensor port and put the DEFI OT sensor in the 2nd port of the KB oil pan. May move that sensor to the aft galley, depending on how accurate the readings are. The one thing I did like about the OT sensor in the sandwich adapter, was that it gave me a post-OPan, post-OC temp reading, and that gave me a dynamic view/correlation between elevated oil temps and heavy on-boost/turbo-induced oil heating. I presume that with the sensor in the OPan, the oil temps might actually be higher with turbo dumping directly into the Opan.
  9. As always Great Walk-through Write-up - thank you. Will get this PDF'd as well. And moved 1-2-3-4's suspension discussions posts to his build thread.
  10. Thank you for this excellent walk-through write-up. I'm looking at 2013-2014 Outbacks and if I do pick up one, it's likely I'll have to change-out these bushes at some point. I've PDF'd it and attached it below. LMK if I need to change or add anything. Thank you again. Covertrussian’s Front Lower Control Arm Rear Bushing Replacement (2010-2014) Legacy-Outback.pdf
  11. I'm fortunate in that I have one of these Axle Seal Protectors. Subaru P/N is 28399SA010. They appear to be silicon (though I have seen a very thin plastic version) and are very similar to Colonel Red Racing's version. They work perfectly to get those splines and circlip through the seals without borking the sealing surface.
  12. Once you see the Ascent's interior laydown, you get how much bigger it is, but you don't see just how far and high that "bigness" stretches until you see it in perspective to the Outback. Would really like to see it similarly aligned with a Tribeca since that is what it replaces. FWIW - I only run a wider tire in the Summer, and then it's the best dry and wet performing tire I can get - and not on overtly large diameter wheels in order not to raise the CG even more. For Winter driving I drop down to the narrowest tire I can source that will fit the wheel and give me the narrowest profile with a solid performing winter tire to cut down through and not float on the snow, slush and ice. But we don't get deep snow here, or would rethink/go with a slightly wider winter tire.
  13. Sorry to hear about your speed sensor issue. Timken replacement should be fine. Have you cleared the codes and driven your vehicle to see if the codes return?
  14. Mega thanks. Have been trying to visualize this from the numbers only, and that doesn't tell nearly enough of the story. And, FWIW, I don't get the narrow tire on the Ascent, but I guess to get the mileage (MPGs) they need out of this platform. But it just looks like it needs some hunker-down meat at the corners, a la BMW X5ish... Of course, you'd have to have some ridiculously light (16lb) wheels to not rob too much power from the 2.4T.
  15. Excellent writeup - as we've come to expect. Thank you. Curious how much this dynamically changed your toe after dialing-in your camber settings. And did you really mean "camber" bolts?
  16. I initially went AP Stage 2 and like you, thought it was not that big of a jump. Smoother, more linear, and slightly more top end But the significant change was when I had it dyno-tuned and used to advantage changes I had made, i.e., TMIC, large COP w/P&P manifolds, GS HVUP, etc., that I really noticed the difference.
  17. Time to go to a Texas Inspection Referee station. I'd expect they have these. Do you truly NOT have PS, or is Avis Lube really that blind? In that case also contact your Texas Consumer Affairs and file a complaint. And what statute requires the PS - I'm sure they provided that for you.
  18. If you can pull it up close/next to a high wall and check whichever side gives you the best reflection, then turn it around and do the other side. You could quickly (relatively) do this behind a big box or walmart store where there's not a whole lot of traffic. If you have your stethoscope that would be the optimal time to use it.
  19. Absoflogginlutely 2nd favorite color combo after SWP/Taupe What are you setting on suspension wise? Link to your OB?
  20. The other reason that you could load your pictures from the Nasioc "gallery" was your photos were loaded to Nasioc's server. Using enables you to load your photos from your host-site's server. And, bonus, once your photos are loaded to the site, you can them into any other thread similar to your gallery process on Nasioc.
