  1. That’s good! With the lava, you know, I’d like to avoid Pele’s Curse. but seriously tho, the glass model is cheaper and my turbo is stock, so I probably don’t need the heavy duty version. Thanks! I just ordered it.
  2. Which one in particular? The WRX/STI Lava? Or WRX/STI SR-Glass?
  3. sorry Wastegate... So really I just need a turbo blanket? The downpipe and uppipe blankets aren't really needed? I mean, I'm fine with spending less money. I have a stock heat shield. Is that good enough?
  4. Is there any type or brand of turbo blanket you recommend? I've still got the original VF40 turbo, the stock splash pan, uncut engine cover, the JDM battery and power brake covers. Most everything the engineers or design team imagined is still there to aid and assist airflow. But now I'm really intrigued about the idea of spending more money! But seriously, I'm thinking turbo blanket, downpipe, actuator blanket, and oil filter blanket. Unless anyone says differently?
  5. Can’t turbo blankets lead to turbo failure?
  6. Well, I just replaced the old stock TMIC with a new OE stock Subaru one. Apparently it's an upgraded part FWIW. But I put the bulletproof mod on it (a real one mind you, not a bootleg version.) It also has a bug guard I installed over it from this Medium sized SS wire mesh I got from Pegasus. So, it's pretty set. But yeah, stop and go traffic kinda freaks me out, especially being in the Big City. Haven't heard much about turbo blankets, except some people swear by them and others swear against them.
  7. Does anyone have an opinion or experience with intercooler misters? I have the stock TMIC and was wondering if it's worth installing one? I don't track the car... Yet that is. But I take long trips and sometimes it can get a bit hot after a while. Any opinions are appreciated! See DEI Cry02 Intercooler water sprayer is a thing, and no I don't work for or endorse them. Also STI's had them?.. Thanks in Advance.
  8. There aren’t any BJs near me. Lol. That didn’t sound right But seriously, all the prices for SS4S’s are pretty much the same anywhere I look.
  9. The worn out Indy 500s were kinda freaky in the rain. I hydroplaned a few times enough to warrant wanting new tires. But I should have expected that, as they were almost slicks. Im fine with super high performance on this car. I think it’s going to be more of a weekend racer, now that I’m getting an old Lexus es300 for a DD. which that one has newer all season tires on it.
  10. I guess Best is what I'm looking at? Can't really put a price on nice tires, right? It's the most important thing on a car. Now, would the Pilot Sport 4S be good in the rain? I'm looking for 3 season, early spring to late fall. I don't think I'll ever not have snow tires. But when there's a cold downpour, I don't want them to get all squirrley/spooky. The Indy 500's I had a blast with until they got kinda baldish. Now I found myself just grandma driving because I couldn't afford to bald them out and replace them. Fun tires, sure, But I'm not made of money to just trash them and replace them every season. But with that being said; I do like to have a little fun every now and then. Until I can afford to replace the engine with a built one and track race it, it's going to be a high mileage DD. So, safe driving with the option of dusting a BMW/'Vette/911/STI every now and then. Hope that helps?
  11. So, I've got the Indy 500's for my summer tire and they're burnt out. I'm wondering what anyone would recommend? My driving is kinda safe, but I do enjoy an occasional off ramp drift, etc. But I don't beat on the car (280,000 miles) or autocross or anything. I've got dedicated snow tires, but I recently moved from WI to IL and I see a lot more rain than snow. While I did enjoy the Indy 500's I'm not opposed to other brands. Thanks!
  12. Never mind I think I got it. It helps to keep a couple fingers on the belt tension wise while you’re moving the adjustment bolt on the rod. Easy to see if it’s getting more or less taught that way. Seems also a little chirp initially when starting it up is normal. If it’s too loose, it’ll squeal when locking the steering wheel. That’s from my observations anyways.
  13. I heard somewhere that the 10-w40 is thicker obviously than the 5w-40 and doesn’t get too thin when the engine heats up thus protecting better. I am in the northern Midwest climate. Think WI to IL region. So Winters can get a bit brutal but my car’s always garaged if that matters.
  14. That’s interesting. I’ll think about that with my next next oil change.
  15. Yeah, I seem to be having a hard time adjusting the belts. Are there any “how to’s” in adjusting the tensions? Mainly the belt going to the A/C compressor? I just can’t seem to find any info on it, and I feel like I’m blindly messing with it, to get it right. That adjustment rod with the nuts attached to the pulley? Lol, it’s got me doing trial and error adjustments trying to get it right. Kinda maddening because honestly, I don’t know what I’m doing. I feel like I get it pretty close, then I’ll get a slight squeal on startup or then a squeal when turning tightly(locking the steering wheel at slow speed) if anyone can help that would be awesome!
  16. I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I’d just like to know anyone’s opinion or expertise. I’m hooked on Motul engine oil, the 8100 X-Cess but what weight should I use? I’ve heard it doesn’t matter much, but I also see some websites recommend 10-w30. I’m currently using 10-w40 and well, I just want to double check. Also, I’ve heard some say to run Motul X-Clean every now and then? Is that true? While I started running Brotella, I’m no longer a fan. Motul to me makes my engine WAY smoother and I use less oil. But is there some other brand I’m missing? Thanks in advance, and sorry if I’m beating a dead horse.
  17. So my Conti Belts were fine with 60k. I put them in my trunk as spares. But dare I say, my car accelerates a bit smoother and quicker with the OEM Subaru Mitsubishi? What I noticed is the Mitsuboshi's are ribbed with a continuous 4 lines around the belt, and the Conti's are kind of dashed with aggressive looking spaces in the ribs. Hard to explain, but they don't look the same. Do they run the same? IDK
  18. Is that a thing, switching to Super Long Life coolant? I’ve never heard of that.
  19. So basically every 30k just get ready to replace almost every belt, fluid, etc. Except of course the timing belt and spark plugs. Hmmmm, great
  20. I’ll have to just do it as soon as I get the belts. Well, the Subaru ones look different than the Conti. The subie have smooth ridges and the Contis currently on my car are toothy. But they seem to be in decent shape. Seriously, they only have to last a few more days.
  21. Geez, now I’m getting nervous. I honestly thought 60k was the interval. From what I read, I could have sworn that’s what a number of people said. Well, I’ve got the Subaru belts ordered. I’ll replace them as soon as I can, and grandpa drive it until then.
  22. I think I've got it! Subaru V-Belt Part # 809218460 and Accessory Drive Belt Part # 809214500. Would I need a special tool to make changing these belts easier? I see Gates has some special belts they push with an installation tool. Is any of that needed? Or just wrestle it on? I seem to remember it being a pain the last time I installed it.
  23. Lol. I thought you were just misspelling Mitsubishi. Heard.
