  1. yeah if this wasn't a family car that got passed down and i knew the exact history on it, wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. good luck on your search, i know someone else on here traded out of their GT into a manual SH-AWD 4th gen TL and loves it. if acura made interesting cars anymore they'd be my next go-to(though the new TLX type-s has me salivating...maybe in 10 years when it's depreciated enough to be affordable...)
  2. yall need to stop with the koni love, my wallet is hurting even just *considering* going down that road
  3. if you can find a 3rd gen type s with a manual you'll be in good shape. i don't know if we just got a good engine, or if it's because my dad took excellent care of the car, but my 2nd gen type s doesn't burn a lick of oil after 190k miles. minor seepage on the front valve cover, but that's meh. if you do get the auto just make sure to change that trans fluid often. after getting this one rebuilt we've changed the fluid every 15k miles and it's run like a champ for the last 60k...more than can be said for the last 3 transmissions that were in it...3rd gen trans is supposed to be far superior, but still needs that maintenance. just make SURE you use OEM fluid. honda ATs do not play well with generic fluid. those TLs are peaches though, and that J series is a lovely engine. sounds great and will catch people by surprise with its pep, even still 15 years on...
  4. take it to carmax and see what they have to say on a trade in. might get yourself a decent offer from there.
  5. mine does that if i don't drive it for a couple weeks...window just gets hung up in the track. couple sharp taps on the window towards the top of the frame while holding the button down usually gets it unstuck. the motor isn't strong enough to break the seal on its own, so a bit of percussive maintenance helps free it up. i keep meaning to put some silicon spray on the weather stripping whenever it happens, but never do because i immediately forget when i get home.
  6. congrats, it's a very nice feeling! i need new control arms up front, so i decided to order a pair of mevotechs. also decided to order a set of the rear control arms falcor got, and a pair of donor struts(seriously...$9 for a set of struts. insane.) in case i change my mind from going KYBs on 13-14 springs to konis and lowering springs. decisions decisions, but knowing i'll have this extra money coming in shortly is not helping.
  7. i paid off my loan on friday, so technically i finished buying my car. hooray!
  8. to be honest that's my first thought as well, but given the general issues with that transmission in general, paired with the fact 2 shops have taken a look at it and said it's the transmission, i'd be willing to be it's that. still a good thing to inspect first though...a pair of CVs are a heck of a lot cheaper than a transmission
  9. sebastian, is it just that the cables are tighter, or is the throw better? what's the difference
  10. the dorman one looks pretty beefy and looks like it might be rebuildable?
  11. i keep meaning to do that...getting on time to change my clutch fluid, so might have to do that here soon...
  12. That rsb upgrade is up there with the Perrin shifter bushings as far as bang for your buck upgrades go, you're gonna love it, really transforms how the car handles.
  13. I may be overzealous with it, but in my eyes it's cheap insurance. Brake fluid, clutch if applicable, and diff/gear box fluids get changed every 30k. It's cheap and easy to do yourself, costs ~$60 and 3 hours of your time to do it yourself if you're mechanically inclined.
  14. He's just butt hurt people are doing things the way they want to rather than his way. *Shrug*
  15. yep, i've got them, and they do have spaces in the back for the lugs(they're enkeis, can't comment on BBS). i *believe* with my extremely imprecise measuring the studs will fit in the back slots, but that's going to vary wheel by wheel. either way, an hour with an angle grinder will get them to where they would need to be if they don't fit, and if i decide to go back to stockers it's another hour or 2 and $25 to replace all the studs.
  16. that was me... with 8.5" width et 55 and 245 tires 15 or 20mm adapters are going to be the sweet spot on a stock suspension from what i've seen. 15 puts the inners 2mm further from the struts, and the outers 28mm further out. 20s would be 7mm further from the struts for the inners and 33mm for the outers. when i get around to ordering tires and adapters i'll be going with the 20s and they should fit fine.
  17. i'm by no means an expert, but they look good...not much if any wear on the lobes. might be prudent to get the bearing surfaces polished at your local machine shop while you're getting the heads rebuilt, but they would be able to advise on that while you're there.
  18. oh, i don't think anyone's talking about actually doing this crap, just a fun thought experiment. but it would be fun to watch the muscle car guys flip shit when you roll up in a subaru and porsche powered awd el camino
  19. yeah you'd have to ditch the trans for sure...with the wheel wells so far forward you could probably run the manual transmission from a 1st gen cayenne with all its fun weird goodness. would need to make a *lot* of room in the transmission tunnel for it, but would let you set that engine back nice and far for better weight, and would just need a custom length driveshaft to the front. obviously a gross oversimplification, but there's systems out there that could be modified to get AWD in there without having to resort to chain drives and janky stuff
  20. i mean...you can't just post a picture of boxes and not tell/show us what's in em...
  21. i'm not involved in the conversation, but...a turbo boxer awd el camino would be a hoot. the small, relatively lighter engine up front would give you better weight distribution, and 250-300 horsepower would be plenty of pep. it's the better part of unfeasible to do, but the concept is hilarious
  22. YES! i keep going back and forth on replacing the head unit, feel like i will one of these days, and some pictures would be excellent.
  23. hey humble, who do you use as your proxy for japan auctions? i've thought about dabbling in them but don't know a reputable proxy...
