  1. Here's where the project stands. Case bored to 100mm - Ringland failure didn't ruin current sleeves. New crank - Mine is just under tolerances after polish. Donated rods from their stock - Mine were ground horizontally for weight balance, No bueno. New pistons - Going with their preferred Weisco set. Short block assembly. Heads to go +1 on all valves. I sent guides bought from Infamous years ago. Reuse retainer and caps. Cams are in good shape. Have 5 buckets on the list but we may just horse trade needs based on final as I have a bunch in stock from the last rebuild. Having them supply the full motor gasket kit. Just under 5K for this. Their goal is to get it all done before the end of the month. Work with John on a VF40 rebuild in the near future if possible. 16G is shot. Original VF40 hadn't degraded to the point of bending the wheels so it should be salvageable. Otherwise a new BNR 16G will be purchased. Looking at options of cleaning the AVCS gear internals. Company 23 tools to the rescue. Considering a Killer B pan and windage tray to go with the pickup I have.
  2. It's mutual. May need a few connectors during my rebuild. Was not aware of iWire till now and will circle back. Need to go through my stash before buying and not pickup parts I already have in stock.
  3. It's all layers of Hell putting it back together. Here is a good line pectoral but for the most part start at the 5 layer of hell. and work your way out. Oil pump, water pump ect ect. Keep in mind there is a fastener holding the fuel rails on the bottom middle of the intake. If you take all of the TGV and rails off you will find it. Must be put on before placing the intake back. You will never get the fastener back on assembled.
  4. It was because they were sluffing off the backing material onto the pullys. I just pulled mine after 100K and had none of this happen. Will I go back in with another blue belt kit. Probably not. It's a street car.
  5. Nice save. Subbed to circle back on bits I may use for my next (in progress) refresh.
  6. Good to know. Very strange, likely exacerbated by my #4 ringland failure. Bummer is the mess left behind on top of the block. It was clean. Came out oily dirty mess. All others with coolant or oil were in pretty good shape. Only only that tore while I was tearing the motor down was at the return to the top coolant tank.
  7. Venair TB hose picked up from Infamous is still in good shape. Sad I missed the kits. OEM FTW at this point.
  8. I have just pulled the first Free Range Racing kit off the car and for the most part it lasted. The only hoses that were weird was the head recirculation and PCV hoses were sweating oil? I have another kit in stock but may not use it. Likely going back in with OEM and sleeve clamps this time.
  9. This is just after teardown. M45 is going to clean and inspect then we will talk later this week early next about rebuild options. Heads looked really good. Have to remember there is only 100K on the heads. I have a full set of valve guides in stock as well. Big question at this point is can the cylinders go to 100mm and will I get a new crank. Funny as I was discussing oil pumps they suggest and they mentioned going to the 11mm pump I just pulled off this build. They like to go bigger like JDM 12mm. But with all the fine debris sent through the system I'm probably going to buy new. Of course a new oil cooler and pan are in the plan. I did see some weeping out of the cast wheel water pump, so it was due anyway. Will get another for this build. Wheel looked great. Now to see if I can get the original VF40 rebuild by John or go with another 16G from Brian. Not many others out there for a TMIC setup that offer what I'm looking for.
  10. Took all four up so they can see for themselves. This one perplexed the machine shop guy. Wanted to pass it around to the others at the shop. He had never seen a forged piston in this shape.
  11. Link said 2x2 so should be close. Color (tint) all depends on the resin used. Would look good regardless.
  12. Was just in that neck of the woods early last month. Snow sucked but didn't last long. https://www.relive.cc/view/vmqXNXnMKoO
  13. Emotional Damage! Dropped at M45 Monday afternoon.
  14. Ringland failure #4. Esplains the compression loss. Debris likely took out the turbo. Case opened. Main and rod bearings look acceptable. Most wear was on the main. Shocked to see how well the rods looked and wristpins came out clean. Was expecting rod bearing spin. All boxed and ready for the machine shop. Nice to see the heads look good. Will still have them torn down for inspection. Time to decide on turbo. BNR is the front runner on price and performance.
  15. You would have to brace the plastic somehow. I just ditched it but wish it was still here to incorporate the wings into the Primitive plate. Have used some thin gauged steel to reinforce the fender skirts to the lower front mount point. Pop rivets and RTV holt it together like a sammich. Had all the intention to replace them but since holding so well forget about it until I'm under the car again.
  16. The OEM tended to sag over time but did cover much more.
  17. LOL 250K on my original 5EAT... Now going on motor build #2. My father nudged me about used car market right now. Precisely why I'm rebuilding this one each time.
  18. Have 250k with the same springs transferred to now two sets of KYB struts. Ticked off the last shop cause they are used to installing loaded sets these days. Just didn't have the time to do it myself at that point. The biggest transformation was placing upgraded anti sway bars front and rear.
  19. Talk to your tuner to give you a base map with your list of mods.
  20. Mine is still holding up on the OBXT. Even in the dry UV riddled NorCal Valley.
  21. Found after driving more with the Movetech LCA with Whiteline sway bars there is significant amount of noise over bumps at low speeds. Especially after a hard long rip. The bushings are starting to deteriorate and just as suspected a stop gap until I put the new bushings in the old LCA. Went through an entire suspension refresh while putting these on. Makes me more inclined to look at OEM options for bushings in the future.
