  1. Just ordered the rear brembos from my personal heroes 541 Motorsport. Those should be here in a few days. So those will also get the same treatment as the fronts since they are gold. Got the rear SS lines showing up today as well. Just need the mounting bracket to get these installed once and for all. I snagged some new redline shifter and parking brake boots from a member here, that will get installed soon. I got a new to me (used) tail light to replace the driver's side light that got cracked at some point while the car was in storage. My lights were tinted with film so I plan to apply new film to both lights. Ordered some knifeless tape to help with the reverse light cutout. I'll post some pics later. I'm going to try to make some led panels in the future using the cracked light as a sacrificial lamb. Overall very excited with the parts coming in.
  2. I have one and did not end up using it. disclaimer I am not done with my set up, but that is a whole other long story. **If anything I say below is wrong someone please correct me. ** BUT the important part is once I ran the wires for illumination and radio controls from the wheel to back of the head unit I was left with this pig-tail just looking all stupid doing nothing. I think it is helpful if you are going to run the OEM headunit, but if you are going to run an aftermarket radio it is not needed. Some head units will accept the factory radio controls, but they have a pigtail you have to wire in. Other headunits require an adapter like a Idatalink Maestro so you will have a dongle you have to wire in so... the i85 is not necessary in either case. Hope this helps
  3. I definitely want to go for a ride on that thing when its done. Hey and I'm local!!!!
  4. Bump Still have plenty of parts with plenty of life in them nothing is rusty or beat to $h!t.
  5. Interested in the Redline goods. I have another purchase pending, I'll let you know if that falls through if so I'll take these off your hands.
  6. I hate that!!!! I have been selling parts on Craigslist and Facebook market place lately, so I have had a few of them freaks pop up lately. Good luck with sale buddy.
  7. I have a rebuild thread going. I posted an update on some brembos, I picked up and an R180 diff I got got super lucky a local guy was selling for cheap.
  8. So first I wanted to mention that I updated a post on drivetrain that I reserved on the first page. I Reserved the post so I might as well use it right? I ended up getting a killer deal on an R180, details on the first page. On to the current update. 1. I had ordered an airbag for the 2008+ wheel on ebay, that never cleared customs (coming from Canada) so that got cancelled and reordered. Arrival date, who the heck knows??? 2. I ordered some Brembos from 541. They were pretty faded so I started to refinish them. I was going to get them powder coated but opted for the rattle can method this time. I got some high temp vinyl decals and sprayed clear over them to seal them in. We will see how they hold up once I start to put some miles on the car, which is still some time away. Lastly, I got new pads, 2004 STI rotors and some new SS lines ready to go.
  9. I got OEM calipers rust free, black painted calipers boxed and ready to ship. Prob way better than what you can find in a Mn junk yard. These are off a Calif car.
  10. I got my control arms from a JDM importer, so they came from the mother-land if you will. I put all whiteline bits in there so the rear should be as tight as a banjo once i'm done with her.
  11. I might not be in my 20's anymore but we still got enough life in us to keep these old threads going, even if no one else is watching. Don't get me started, I have been wanting to get on the track for a while now. I was even trying to weasel my way on to a lemons team, but I have yet to find a local team that is open to strange unfamiliar faces. I'm still waiting to hear back on my possible relocation for work, so right now everything is kind of on hold.
  12. Bravo buddy, I have done this (hammer and chisel method) and it is not exactly what I call fun. The best part is I had my aluminum arms powder coated and they were supposed to press out my old bushings before they coated and they "forgot". So I had to be extra careful getting the old bushings out; it was mostly a success only a few minor nicks here and there. I took a slightly different approach at one point. I used an autozone ball joint press to tear the rubber out of the sleeves since none of the adapters were the right size for the bushing. I then used a hack saw to cut a section out of the steel sleeve being careful not to cut into the aluminum. Just about 1/2 inch wide. I used my punch to get that 1/2" section out (it curled up like a fruit rollup) then the sleeve would just collapse with little effort.
  13. I doubt this is wishful thinking, like Max said it is the future, at some point all auto manf will need to convert to some kind of alternative power plant. I think there is still a valid use case for gas and diesel beyond 2035 which is when many automakers say they will have full electrification. The big shift is going to be when the avg number of electric cars is greater than gasoline, that is when the floor will shift under the market. The sooner Subaru gets on this path the better it will fair. Right now Chrysler seems to be the one kid eating paste and picking boogers in the corner (duh... its got a HEMI... duh) while everyone else is looking towards the future.
  14. I’ve seen a Spec B at the Bechtel parking structure in Reston. My team just moved into the building ext door and we share the same parking structure.
  15. My memory is getting mighty fuzzy at this point, but when I took Porsche training I think I remember seeing that there was active scavenging from the heads as well as a well baffled oil sump. Plus the Germans over engineer every thing the PCV system is no exception.
  16. No, there are still other wires running to the FPC that control the operation (this comes from the ECU), the only thing you would be providing is a new source of 12v. Now if you remove it and bypass it then yes it is 100% all the time. Now your question about the STI unit versus the legacy unit, there are a couple of threads pages and pages long search is your friend. But the short version is people tested it, there is a difference. All of your questions are answered in those threads wiring schematics, the whole bit, you should just go read that at this point.
  17. So there are a couple of things you can do. 1. You can just grab power directly from the battery with a relay and have the SoB run 100% all the time, YOLO bichess!!! 2. You can grab an STI fuel pump controller, these are said to have a lower voltage drop and just swap it in directly. 3. (Which is what I did). I swapped the fuel pressure controller with an STI unit, I ran parallel wires from the FPC to the pump connector under the rear seat so there is no voltage drop. And this is the important part you can run a larger parallel 12v wire from the front of the car to a relay in the rear. You can use the original 12v signal from the car to activate the relay, and have the new larger wire provide power to the FPC. Hope that makes sense. In my car I am relocating the battery to the rear, so I did not have to run a wire all the way to the front. I have a remote fuse panel in the rear for "activities" should I need additional circuits.
  18. No worries I only got a few so I’m ok with a $1 investment. Mostly I wanted people to have this information in the future.
  19. Just as a delayed follow up the pins for the white connector under the dash are are the larger 070 pins.
  20. I'm not surprised to hear that. I wish that was not the case. Is it possible to "make it" fit sure anything is possible with a welder, and some steel; but does it make any sense at all, No, probably not. For the time and money it would take to make that work it is just cheaper to grab a not so abused STI. Now in fantasy land that would mean a lot of things for the platform as far as options go. Wheels, coilovers, brakes, swaybars etc. all that becomes available.
