  1. I have the rear set I need to get rid of. I would basically send for shipping cost and some beer money.
  2. Awesome. I just got a grimmspeed (it was really cheap locally) but it deletes the snorkel, I found that interesting, and not particularly useful for most since it now requires you to run a intake.
  3. Very pretty! Curios if you have considered making one that has scoop to pull air into the OEM intake thing. You know the one that comes off the stock airbox. I would love to see a full solution radiator shroud, intake scoop, air box, alternator cover, etc. Right now all these manf have bits here and there that don't work with one another. I was just watching the Throttl STI build and the mishimoto intercooler piping does not work with their own radiator fan shroud, that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Each part should work on its own, and with the rest of their options.
  4. I have the part number at home, I can post that later today. It was a bolt in affair with the STI brake booster you need both. The STI MC will not bolt onto the legacy booster. Also you need the vacuum line, the STI line has the check valve located inline.
  5. Right now my car is not driving, I have build thread going if your interested in the gallery. The decals I got from an online vendor, stock the logos are printed/painted on. Here is the link https://www.emblemoverlays.com/product-p/p000009.htm The product seems ok, but they took a while to ship out for my liking. For my refinish I used rattle can paint. I cleaned the parts, scuffed the surface, applied the color coat, decals and clear coat on top. I got new bleeder screws, and mounting bolts from the dealer ship, and I chased the threads on the calipers it is an M12x1.5 tap you will need.
  6. Here is my set up and some rough prices so you know how deep this hole can go. 2008 STI Front Calipers - found on Ebay - $700 (I repainted them myself) STI high temp decals - $25 2004 Centric Rotors - Tire Rack - $175 2004+ Hawk HPS pads - Tire Rack - $110 Stoptech SS font lines - $60 2004-2007 STI rear Calipers - Ebay - $650 2004 Centric Rotors - Tire Rack - $160 2004+ Hawk HPS pads - Tire Rack - $78 Kartboy adapter bracket - Amazon - $200 Stoptech SS rear lines - $80 Parking brake shoes - $190 STI Brake booster - Ebay - $30 STI Master cylinder - OEM New - $200 Master cylinder brace (because why not at this point) - $100 All and all I'm about $2600 bucks into this, why did I post this??? You can get 95% of this performance without all this cost, you can get better pads and rotors for your Legacy and get most of the way there. Brembos are bling, and if you don't do the whole system you can negatively affect the performance of the brakes on the car. My advice is unless you are willing to make that $2k and up investment just get quality pads, rotors, lines and fluid for the Legacy and have blast. The brakes are plenty good for the size, weight, and power of the car, maybe even a little oversized. Now unless you are 400hp+ then the stock stuff will do just fine. Not trying to be a party pooper, but just saying you can get cheap chinese knock offs is not the same as a "brake upgrade". Heck, they might be lower quality than what you have stock. If your stock ones are worn out I have a spare set of calipers and HPS pads I need to get rid of. Hope this helps.
  7. I am looking forward to spending time on track. Life has a way of throwing curveballs my way. I got into the auto industry just to watch the bottom fall out of the economy. Changed careers, and now things are looking really positive, but I still have this relocation (will they, won't they) thing up in the air for way too long. Me: I have so many plans!!! Life: Hold my beer...
  8. We used to joke that the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) should have been called the Porsche Save My A$$ system. They make a lot of people feel like they are way better drivers than they actually are. I like to follow some of the gridlife series and that is some all out driving. Given the vintage of the some of the cars in the field I don't think stability control was an option for most cars. But I'm sure that can be said for a lot of other series, like SCCA.
  9. Added a pic of the Kartboy 5 speed shifter bushings ready to go out!!! I also have the full shifter assy if your linkage is all rusty and crusty.
  10. Thanks fellas. I have had the question asked many times in the past as to when the car will be done. And the answer is usually some version of when I'm happy with it and no sooner. Based on my spreadsheet I am about 8K into a car that is not even close to running, and I figure I have another 10k+ to put into it. I am very fortunate to have a good paying job and could have easily just gone out and purchased a new car, but where is the fun in that. One of the things I love about this platform is how analog it is, actually this is the last generation of cars that did not have all of the electronic nannies built-in. At least the 2005-06 did not have traction control, stability control, nothing except ABS. For some that is a con, but for some of us that is a pro. Knowing that you are in complete control and that if you mess up it is all your fault really makes you humble when you have more than 300hp and relatively narrow tires, if you don't go for fender flares. I'll keep at it as long as the budget permits.
  11. Got the rear Brembos in recently and have them the same treatment as the fronts. Just going to order up some new bleeders before I call them done. Only thing left to call the brake system done is the adapter mounting brackets, pads and rotors. I’m prob going to get the adapter rotors this time around and get the extra thick parking brake shoes in the future. Bigger picture I need to get cracking on the wheel well refinish from my aforementioned undercoating fiasco. I was hoping there would be some Memorial Day sales on the coil overs, but no luck. So the next big purchase will be the suspension, and that will be done too. While this build is taking longer than I ideally would have liked, I’m glad I have taken my time. Every thing going on the car is either new, or is being refreshed to like new condition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Working getting the rear Brembos all painted up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I like to remove the wheel pop out the center cap, put the wheel back on and lower the car. The weight of the car in gear will allow you to torque that sucker off. No need to get the lady involved. Now pulling an engine.... I have had the wifey out in the garage at 2 am jiggling the cherry picker when my buddy popped the motor in his 67 SS. That was before I had a compressor at home, now I give it tat-tat-tats until she comes off.
  14. Had a member reach out asked for a part I had on hand, feel free to ask. Just don't ask for cats.
  15. Very well said buddy. At the end of the day it’s someone else’s life to live, what is important to me might not be for the next person. If this makes sense for your situation do it, just go into with your eyes open.
  16. Sorry I don't. I used to be a technician and I have done way more CV boots that I would like to count. At some point you stop taking pictures of your headaches. I do wish i took a picture of one guy. He was a new tech at the Audi shop I worked at and he was covered in grease, face, shirt, up to the elbows. BTW euro axles are more difficult to rebuild than Asian cars. So you have that on your side. If this was a VW there would be one answer which is get a new one or be ready to hate your life.
  17. Also some counties don't have smog, mind you they are out in the sticks. My buddies and I always talked about getting a PO BOX in the middle of no where, but never did.
  18. Kind of, yes people are leaving but not in the exaggerated numbers you hear. I was born and raised in California until 2015 and left for work reasons. The main reason people are leaving now is 2 fold, cost of housing and the increased availability of remote work. You will NOT be giving up a lot, it is just different. I have lived in California, Georgia, NY and now Virginia, and was about to move to HI. They all have their pros and cons. There is no perfect state, no matter how much people on the internet insist their shitty town/State/County/ cul de sac is the best in the world. Most people are not moving because of emissions, you just learn live around it. First of all you NEVER get rid of your stock cats, I still have mine. Right now people are selling them for a "profit" until they are all gone and you can't find one, meaning you are screwed. Also you need to be aware of what you can and cannot get away with, for example an adjustable fuel pressure regulator is a no go, intakes need a carb number, headers are also a dead give away etc. Not all of the rules in other states are great either, in northern Virginia I have to pay property taxes on a car even if it does not move, in Cali I paid the one time $15 storage fee and I have not paid a cent in registration fees in years. My project car is still registered in California. Lastly, the initial smog laws were needed, have they gone way too far HELL YEAH, but the air quality in California in the 1970s was plain awful, there are plenty of pictures of LA smog online, feel free to search. Good luck finding a stock cat now that they go for $600+ just to be crushed. Enjoy the nice weather, and mostly toll free roads.
  19. You need to remove the inner race so you can get the small end of the boot on the shaft. Not possible to do it otherwise.
  20. The cv boot replacement is very easy, messy but easy. Remove the bands that hold the boot on remove the large clip on the insided of the female housing (large triangle thing) with a pick or screw driver. Remove the balls from the cage by tapping the cage with a hammer to flex it over. Once the balls are out you can separate the shaft from the green end. There is a clip that holds the inner race to the shaft, remove that, install boot and do it all in reverse.
  21. On one hand I'm ok with this, but on the other I'm not... Let me explain before I get flamed... (might be too late for that) If the govt is going to demand that emissions be reduced then fine, it is going to happen anyways it is easier to get with the program than to fight it forever, your never going to win you'll just die tired. Now if the options are: a) enforce emissions nationally and remove folks in the "country" ability to ignore emissions. b) Kill that automotive aftermarket in its entirety (which is what the new EPA regulation could lead to) c) ban the sale of gasoline vehicles and stick D cell batteries in everyone's butts. I will take option a) any day, I don't like it. I think there is FAR more benefit from regulating airlines, heavy machinery, public transportation, etc.. than a few thousand cars (at best) in any give city that run a little rich. All kidding aside the difference between how clean a modified 4 cyl runs today v.s. how a stock V8 American car from the late 1960's is dramatic. Modern cars are way cleaner than anything from a few decades ago. In my perfect scenario hybrids, and electrics become the norm for your average people mover. Gasoline is more of an enthusiast option (kill low octane fuel and only leave 93 and up), and due to the limited numbers emissions can be relaxed for these small volume vehicles. Is it realistic... no, not likely. But I would much rather we all suffer a little than we all suffer a lot. Lets hear it boys....
  22. So it is possible to tint the wagon lights but not with the cutouts. To get the film to wrap around lens it has to be warmed and stretched that would distort the cutouts something wicked. I made the cutout for the reverse lights with knifeless tape. The same can be done for the wagon lights. For most folks they would prob prefer lighter smoke instead of the darker tint.
  23. Here is a quick before and after for the taillight refresh. I had to peal the old film off and that was a sticky mess. Thankfully goof off did the trick and got the old adhesive off without damaging the lenses.
  24. So I made some progress on the project car. I got the new rear brake lines installed (Stoptech SS lines). I have rear brembos on the way so looking forward to that. I installed the R180 diff, man that cleaned up nicely! Lastly I re-tinted my taillights. Overall I happy with the results, I just wish it was a little lighter. I know I ordered the dark film, but dang that is dark. They were sold out of the lighter smoke tint, so I might switch to that someday.
