  1. Damn sorry to bump a dead thread but this is sad to here. Steve tuned my Subaru and as far as I can tell they closed like 3 months later. I've been trying to get some help from him because I've been told there's an issue with my tune. Guess I'll have to find somewhere else. RIP
  2. I'M AN IDIOT! I wanted to update this thread because I found out what the issue was. I'm kinda embarrassed but hopefully my shame can save somone else some grief later on. Also as a side note I ruled out the accelerator/pedal sensor being the issue by replicating it with cruise control turned on and it still not accelerating properly. My automatic transmission fluid was over filled causing issues with shifting into the proper gear. This was resulting in a serious lack of power and inconsistent acceleration. It would also suddenly shift into gear resulting in me randomly taking off unexpectedly. Story time for those who love laughing at my shame: When I replaced my engine 50k ago we thought I had a small transmission leak. I'm guessing we just wernt reading the stick properly and after adding tranny fluid a few times it didn't read low anymore so I stopped checking. I was racking my brain the other day when I suddenly realized that I haddent checked the tranny in a really long time. I thought 1 of 2 things. It was either super low causing issues or (and more likely because if I had had a leak for that long unchecked my tranny probably would have combusted by now) it was over filled. Sure enough a quick check confirmed that I've been driving with an overfilled tranny for the last 40-50k like a total dumbass. After checking my records (I keep a spreadsheet with all my maintainace on it) I saw that I was pretty much due for a tranny service anyway so I went and had the fluid flushed and installed a new filter. Holy crap my car is alive again! It's so peppy and quick I forgot how much power it used to have! I ordered a bunch of parts to fix up all my small issues and even cleaned up my engine bay a bit. I'm excited to drive it again which makes me feel so much more stupid for having overlooked a simple thing. I figure most of the LGT fans here drive manuals so the fact I'm driving an auto makes me laughable at baseline but I love my car and am happy to have the power back.
  3. Yikes, +1 for what Max said. I'd almost be curious about the results of a compression test. But you'd probably have misfire codes if that was the case. Does it shake the car when bogging down?
  4. Interesting, I have heard of people having that issue. (with different cars) Did you also have any overboosting issues at all? Thank you for your reply! I'll definitely look into that.
  5. So for the last 2 years or so I've had some issues with my acceleration. Somedays it's perfectly fine, other days it's a total nightmare to drive down the street. I can have the pedal all the way down and the car just doesn't seem to want to go. It will usually maintain my speed and/or speed up very slowly. If I leave the pedal in the same exact spot eventually within 5-15 seconds the engine will roar to life and take off unpredictably. (This unpredictable nature is why my wife refuses to drive my car currently) While this is happening I can see on my boost gauge that I'm pushing 8-9psi sometimes. (I'm tuned for around 16) The issue started 2 years ago when the turbo started over boosting sporadically and throwing check engine codes for it. I ran a log through my access port and found it was boosting up to 2-3 PSI over what it was tuned for and throwing the codes. Eventually this stopped happening (and hasn't happened in a year and a half or so) and was replaced by the cars current problem of not always wanting to go when I put the pedal down for that 5-15 seconds. (It's almost like the feeling of driving with a blown turbo if you can relate to that but the turbos isn't blown) If I'm driving around and I ride the car pretty hard for about 10-15 minutes I can get it working right so I'm thinking something might be sticking/stuck. My initial thought was the turbo wastegate. I have a BNR Evo 3 16g that I bought new 4ish years ago. But now I'm debating with myself that it could be an issue with the throttle. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated. I finally have my own garage and can start checking off items on my repair list. P.S. I recently got an oil evaluation from Blackstone labs and they said my engine was in great shape
  6. This is probably a bit of a longshot but is the air filter clogged? Problems like these sometimes it helps to remember the 3 basics of combustion. Air, spark, and fuel. With the pump and filter done we can probably assume fuel is good. If it idles fine then the spark is probably good but it could theoretically still be wires or coil packs. This makes me think perhaps it's not getting the air it needs. I'm sure since they went through the trouble of replacing the map sensor they've probably changed the air filter. You could easily test this by pulling the air filter out, starting it, and giving it some gas. I've seen people who've put new air filters in and not unwrapped them causing the choking of the engine. Also never a bad idea to look for vacuum leaks. Everything I'm saying are things I would have assumed any reputable shop would have already checked. So if this solves your problem you should probably find a new shop from now on.
  7. I just finally wired up my steering wheel controls today. I have an Automatic and for the life of me couldn't find a video. Its super similar to the Manual and with the help of this thread I was able to get it all figured out. So I made a video on how I did mine for my Automatic peeps who need more context. Huge shout out to all the guys who posted schematics and help 15 years ago and helped me get this done.
  8. Just did this today and I'm very happy with it. Made the mistake of buying a cheap ebay remote first and it didnt work. Bought a nice OEM one and were off to the races! Nice to carry 1 thing instead of 2
  9. No remote work unfortunately. And I dont have the stock parts. Had to downsize a while back and cleaned house on all the parts I had laying around. Starting to regret that. Wish I could keep it registered up north but that probably wont be an option lol.
  10. So I recently got a tempting job offer in the Solano county area and might be moving to California. Someone mentioned to me how strict the car laws are and now all of a sudden im worried I may be in trouble. I was wondering if any natives to the area could give some advice on how to proceed. My mods are as follows: Uppipe, downpipe, Cobb cold air intake, Grimmspeed intercooler, Air oil separator, and a pro-tune. I do have the stock exhaust on the back end which keeps the car pretty quiet exhaust wise. Id like to take this job offer but im really not in a position to get a new car and/or buy all the stuff to throw on mine to pass smog. Id hate to pass on this offer if im gonna get failed for my downpipe or something.
  11. I GOT IT!!!! Another day, another sneaky hose. The hose on the intake manifold came off. I took off the intercooler twice looking for that sneaky bastard.
  12. Pulling up to the light before I get home and all of a sudden my cars trying to stall at the light. I gas it around and notice my boost gauge suddenly reads 0psi and im hearing fluttering sounds (compressor surge maybe?) and not getting full boost at all. My boost gauge is T'ed off of the BOV nipple. I checked the lines and all looks good. The blue T is in tact. I removed my gauge from the equation and still have the same problem. No lines are cracked that I can tell. I pulled off the BOV and it still opens if I push on it hard. No signs of rust. Pulled off the intercooler and couldn't find any issues below it. Id love to smoke test it but im supposed to drive across the state tomorrow and dont have a smoke machine handy. Couldn't find or hear any leaks tho. Any and all help is appreciated!
  13. Im curious if anyone had tried one of these Omega Excalibur remote start systems. They seem to look pretty nice with displays and they can replace your regular fob. They seem like a "Luxury" kind of item for our not so luxury cars. The prices seem reasonable as well. Heres a link to the site selling them: https://www.carid.com/2005-subaru-legacy-remote-start/ P.S. I know many people have differing opinions on actually using these. This is meant to be an open thread about these systems and not whether or not you should be using a remote starter. Thanks for understanding.
  14. I've had mine done for a while and they worked well up untill recently. What's weird is when I first unlock the door only the map lights come one. But once the car is warmed up the dome light will come on as well. When I first get in its not responsive to the switches either. The reason I say "warm up" is because when I get in my car it's typically 10 degrees or so right now. And I didn't have this issue when it was warm out
