Well, my 22T/205 hybrid saga has had more drama. I decided to chamber match the 205 heads to the 22T block and went to a shop recommended by the tuner I wanted to use and they mangled my 205 heads. I have over $1500 invested in these heads and they f'ed them up! I told the shop to match the 205 heads to the 22T bore. There was even a machined flycut in the 205 heads that EXACTLY matched the 22T. I get the heads back and they are matched to a 2.5 bore! To top it off there are tooling marks on the mating surfaces of the cylinder heads. I just had them resurfaced and now there are tool marks all over them!?!? Some are right next to coolant passages!!! And they nicked my brand new exhaust valves!!! I'm pissed and sick of getting screwed over by every damn shop I go to. The cherry on top is that they had the heads for over three months! When I dropped them off they assured me they would be done in a couple weeks. Good help is hard to find. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/D8FEF8BB-8677-42C2-BA2C-59501EA388EF_zpsfnkryy5j.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/7608FFB8-AA99-460F-A1DA-6D9DB6A0A018_zpsisxj3isu.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/A58F98A5-3558-4EB1-8B5E-80DC2564BF2D_zpsx3baohgu.jpg I saved for years for this build. So I'm pretty dejected from all the bs I've had to deal with on this project. I've contacted the shop and let them know how I feel about their work. At this point I'll just have to assemble the hybrid and see if the head gaskets hold up with all the damage. Shortblock is pretty much assembled aside from piston installation. I busted an oil scraper ring so I had to wait for Wiseco to send me a replacemt. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/1C657F17-1328-485A-903B-E1A831D79635_zpsqxjk8oj6.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/B5B43854-64B6-4C32-B994-C51CAA252C17_zpstd3zojd2.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/395BD31E-9008-45DA-AABF-4D2845088FA2_zpsoxjbgmu3.jpg

Ugh, I'm getting nervous. I dropped my 205 heads off at a shop a couple months ago to be chamber matched to the 22T bore and they have been stringing me along. Now I haven't heard back from them for ten days. No answering their phone, no answering texts. I finished assembling my shortblock almost two weeks ago so I really need those heads. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I might have to pay them a visit with my scary looking friend.

I ordered new water jacket case bolts and washers. Bolts look like originals but superseded washers are thinner without rubber inserts. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/F1F58861-27CB-4A7D-BD62-616429DE996F_zpsfvmd7dws.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/40322BB6-6DA2-47B2-8806-DDB02791B6F8_zpsdfgjub4a.jpg

Gave the 22t a simple green scrub bath followed by a clean water rinse. I had to dry the bores fast because they were flash rusting. I dried the halves with compressed air and test fit the crankshaft. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/8B5758A5-BA0D-435B-AF72-24E4E23382EF_zpsqnsbuqnd.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/F93BD3EC-BDD5-4C7F-AF5F-1EFEEC765930_zpsdayslkod.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/5601CBD9-D67B-4789-AE12-228376049424_zpsrme7vlxa.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/2229887B-51B3-4598-8C70-BA92720B53C8_zpshm3n6gbd.jpg[/uR Worked on tgv deletes. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/0FFAC1FC-09C7-481C-9089-9D689C0C636E_zpsh0kapvnv.jpg

Bcm you're a badass! Here are 22T rods next to some STi rods. The STi rods are the clean ones. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/A5146CFD-DB16-41C5-B219-443D7C8FB507_zpsibqvlwgj.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/E692ACA3-F421-404E-8516-A6D3EB79B3BE_zpspjau184h.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/2F0895ED-35E2-4EB8-A264-54A631D44182_zpsvbarbobd.jpg

I gapped the piston rings. A good trick is to use the piston to set the ring depth. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/BE951694-4711-4333-9CA6-34D62F38C03D_zps9pmjaagi.jpg Then check with the feeler gauge. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/1A57D336-1FE6-495D-AB4A-B53A3F0AF5C3_zps1bxxnonu.jpg Sneak up on the proper gap with your trusty piston ring grinder. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/FDEC658A-A729-4637-9F1F-B5A4AFFB3AA1_zpsjtet7n4x.jpg

You said you have cometics? Supposedly you need mirror smooth surfaces for them to seal properly. 50 RA. http://www.cometic.com/technical.aspx but fwiw I asked my machinist what the RA value was on my block and he had no idea what I was talking about. Did you have the heads and block decked before you installed them? My buddy was running cometics and they blew right away. Others have used them with success though.

This is what four EJ22T B pistons w/167k look like. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/A7A1D69F-E6CF-44F4-829A-58C7EACA908A_zps8lpvsjyn.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/37C9D0E8-7246-4DE2-A877-1FF949286C51_zpsaryjdhth.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/22434D89-6D26-42AD-8476-A64260CC902D_zps5hbdym7g.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/961B7274-8E7B-43F0-A554-49FA740C515A_zpsvcsc8jdd.jpg http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/F851A221-AA78-48EB-8CEA-031D57CA991C_zps3xqguyvb.jpg Wrist pins were clean as a whistle. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/1AE239C4-E1D6-4C9B-BBDA-9054A35E7311_zpsptskudse.jpg The OEM 22T pistons have tiny valve reliefs. The relief on the right side is hard to see. They are also amazingly clean for how many miles are on them. Stock 22T ecu must be pretty smart. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/0777BBA2-198B-49B5-A5AB-8DE1F63950F3_zpsuocgbuod.jpg Next to Wiseco 22T pistons. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/B03086EF-AA3D-4A8B-A82E-958A48689E30_zpsiqaxkz5f.jpg Wisecos on the left. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/24967DE0-7EA7-4D77-A79D-6E8E9A0E79DC_zps5sfadcxm.jpg Wrist pin placement looks to be close. Oem 22ts have a longer skirt. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/28AD3D95-3D47-42F4-B9F4-B9847C7A328A_zpszydot2hq.jpg The Wiseco valve reliefs are a little deeper. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/1F74EA5A-2471-4A9A-B5F7-B354C46108B8_zpsc6yterio.jpg I had my 22t block bored for the Wisecos. But after checking out the 22t pistons I realize I could have ran them no problem and saved a bunch of money, lol. I thought it was cool how they are all Bs. I wonder if all 22ts have matched pistons.

FP green should be a lot of fun. I have my eyes on a 16g or 18g. New OEM crank & rod bearings arrived yesterday. Time to scrub out the block and do a practice assembly before I seal the case halves. I need to clean out all the threads too. I have a good sequence to install the oil squirters. Bottom out the threads w/red lock tite and then another 3/4 turn!

Extracted another 22t cam. It was super fun to pull them and a lot easier than I expected. Pretty clever design. Interesting how one is quite a bit smaller than the other, reason being the placement of the cam sensor. 167k on these guys and they turned so smooth. More evidence of the robustness of the ej22 design. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/8FBDD734-A241-41AC-843A-4A10A58CC6DC_zps45spt8bp.jpg Good vs collapsed HLA. It's a good idea to replace them! http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn41/henry616/Mobile%20Uploads/CEC1A70D-6153-41A3-88B7-74347B664805_zpsuxsmt3be.jpg

By direct fit I meant you don't have to take a hammer or hacksaw to get the tmic in place. Thanks for clearing that up! I agree, doing one mod at a time is the way to go. Not only for troubleshooting, but to really get a feel for each improvement. I'll have to install the mbc and see what happens! Too bad my prosport gauge took a dump, so I have to get that fixed before I go upping the boost. I bought a new sender but that didn't fix the problem.
