  1. (first, this thread is old, there are newer ones that may get you more answers) Yeah, I'm pretty sure they will. The recall "RCRIT-14V471-1857.pdf" (I think you can google it) states right near the beginning: CAUTION: Before starting this service procedure, perform a visual inspection of both front airbags looking for any damage or abnormality. Next, turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and confirm the airbag warning lamp illuminates then extinguishes normally. If it does not, or if ANY (emphasis theirs) concern is noted with the airbag system, STOP and report these findings to the customer BEFORE proceeding further. Any concerns identified with the airbag system (when no airbag deployment has occurred), are not related to this campaign and must be addressed separately. Now, they do say: Even if the system has a concern, this may not preclude completion of this campaign, ... I.e. they may be able to proceed. But, if your airbag light is already on, how can they later verify that they installed it correctly? Or you could come back and claim it was working before, and they broke it. And if your airbag light is on, NONE of your airbags are going off (if the light is on, they're ALL disabled), so what's the point? Just getting a new airbag because you can, that'll never deploy anyway?? Just to screw SoA over for a few $$? I guess if you're thinking of selling the car or going back to stock at some point, I could see it. Otherwise, ain't none of your bags deploying anytime soon, so no need to worry..
  2. Yes, not during random deployments, AFAIK. Random deployments would be our OTHER car, the '08 Grand Caravan, just announced on the same day Carlsen Subaru called to tell me they have the parts for my car. And now, after dropping it off today, they tell me it won't be ready until tomorrow. I got a Yukon XL as a rental - I guess all the smaller cars are already gone to the superbowl visitors, to make parking easier. Talk about a barge!
  3. Do you mean throttlehappy? What he does is increase the "requested torque" field in the ECU to tell the transmission to expect to have more power being produced and shift harder. I have the tune. It does improve things, mostly. And the Hexmods-F1 helps a little bit more. But it's NOT F1-like shifting. Not even close.
  4. So much for that idea. Subaru called dealer, dealer said they had the parts. Went there, after waiting 3 hours, they tell me Subaru asked about the wrong part - a 2004 airbag, not 2005.. Really, and you couldn't verify AT THE (*&@#$ beginning of my appointment? I even called before driving out to make sure they had the part. Guess now I have to start asking by part number..
  5. Well, they actually didn't blow me off. Nice person called back (via call-back option), said she would talk to various dealerships in the area and find a way to get the parts for me sooner. Here's hoping..
  6. Dealership told me last week on the phone that they had the parts. Today, they tell me they're back ordered until April. At least I called before driving 20+ miles in the rain + $5 bridge toll only to be told no, can't do it.. Time to try 1-800-Subaru3 and see what they say.. and after they blow me off, tear into the car and disable the airbag..
  7. Just curious - a mounting bracket for a nexus 7 was mentioned once or twice. Did it ever get anywhere? I.e. is anyone offering such a bracket (for the '05-09 LGTs) for sale? I just decided to keep the car a bit longer, and am looking to add a nexus to the cubby..
  8. I guess at least it's not the driver's side airbag - I often am the only adult in the car, so it's still usable as a 2nd car, and we'll take the minivan as often as possible. Hoping to get the car back after a 5-week repair (long story - front diff needed work, had a Hexmods F1 installed, etc). Can the front airbag be disabled just by pulling the plug on the sensor? Or would that make it go into always-on mode?
  9. After seeing the story on autoblog, decided to check again, and am glad I did. I guess I'm not the only one blindsided by this after checking over and over in May-July and getting "your car is not on the list"? Here I thought I'd missed the notification(s) - the NTHSA documents seem to suggest they sent out 3 notices to LEGACY owners. Guess not. Thanks Subaru. So much for caring about your owners
  10. Actually, for anything recent, sniff tests are gone. Last test was: 1) check OBD codes, if clean, 2) do visual, if pass, all done. For both '05 LGT and '08 Grand Caravan..
  11. So, who do we contact/what do we say? Also, in my case, not a US citizen, so unlikely to have much of an impact..
  12. Ok, that's the 2nd mention of the TL "blue tee". I have the TL tee, just haven't installed it yet - I have a bunch of car stuff to do this summer, after I finish with the garage remodeling, like install the GS TMIC, check all vacuum hoses, install CNT DP, AVO turbo inlet, intake manifold gaskets, etc. For now, she runs Back to my question: are we tapping the hose(s) involved in the blue tee UNDER the TMIC to provide a new reference input for the FPR? If so, what's the best approach to "tee-ing the tee"? I have some generic vacuum adapters, which might work, but then I might have the same issue the TL tee is meant to address, right? Or are we tapping the output of the BPV, which, if I'm right, is the one I tapped (comes out of the BPV heading in the general direction of the battery) as input to my gt-digboost20 pressure gauge? Sounds like it's the former, so that my post-BPV pressure gauge is irrelevant. I haven't studied everything in detail (wish I could, just don't have as much time as I would like), so I understand the general operation of the major components, but am not sure on exactly where every line comes from/goes to. Thanks for all the hard work of everyone here.
  13. 1) worth doing the mod with stock FPR? Not really comfortable messing with fuel lines 2) where is the stock FPR? driver's side or passenger side? I've already tee'd my BPV hose for my boost gauge - I guess if I try this, I should try to shorten my boost gauge hose as much as possible (it has 10-12" of slack in it at this point). Will also look at making the fuel pump duty cycle adjustment (noisy walbro). Another fun project to add to the list
  14. Yeah, I forgot about that somehow. The difference between "I need wipers, brain just does it" and "now, let me think about exactly how I use the wipers and test to make sure that everything is working as it should". Thanks for the reminder
  15. Just wanted to say thanks for this - really helped me narrow down my search. I had the same issue last week with my '05 (115k miles, NorCal, so heat, not cold, causing the aging). The hose going from the 1st to the 2nd nozzle/sprayer literally ripped in two as I turned it a little to see if there was a tear (after seeing a bit of water seep down). Symptoms: water was only spraying 4-6 inches up the windshield, and only 1/2 sprayers on the back (wagon hatch) were producing any water. 6' of 5/32" ID Prestone brand hose from Kragen (like $4.xx) later, and it's all good. 6' of hose was about 12-16 inches more than needed to replace everything under the hood (starting from the 90-degree elbow at the edge). I replaced every piece, including the ones going to the nozzles, etc. The "mist" option (pulling on the stalk, instead of pushing the button) seems to have mysteriously stopped working, but pushing the button works better than it ever has..
  16. Wow. Just finished going 880s to bascom. Glad they didn't get me.
  17. Anyone know if any '05 GTs are involved? Both Subaru's lookup and NHTSA's lookup say mine is not. I do have an 05.5 5EAT, so perhaps I'm in the clear?
  18. Haven't noticed any issues. BP + bnr16g up to 20/21 psi for 50k miles.
  19. There was a thread on NASIOC about these. A tuner said something to the effect of "these were good for a while, but lately, they've been really bad, and I've stopped recommending them", IIRC.
  20. 05 and 06 are different. Search for doccrowley, I believe, who TRIED and TRIED to make them work, and finally gave up. Unless your friend wants to spend lots and lots of time and effort, you're probably better off getting an 05 5EAT. Sorry
  21. Does this change anything as far as turning circle? Or are the limits the same, you just get there quicker? What about load on the power steering pump? I had a small leak in a ps hose that I had someone replace, and ever since, I sometimes get a small cut-out of the pump at idle when turning. Not long, and kicks back in in 1/2 a second, but it seems like the pump is starting to go. Wondering if this would put more load on the pump?
  22. As requested, here's my Walkthrough for replacing the harness.
  23. '05 LGT here. Survived 2 kids (8 and 6 now). Traded the wife's mazda 3 sedan in on a Grand Caravan. If she'd have listened to me and gotten the mazda 3 hatch, that might not have needed to happen - but there was NO WAY to get even a medium sized stroller into the m3 sedan's trunk. Since we were getting a new car anyway, got something easier on the wife's back, and can take her parents at times. 3 kids might be kinda tight, but 2 is fine. Wife wants the LGT as a DD when I get something new - van will become an occasional vehicle..
