Marvick08GT's Ridiculous Build!
Code replied to Marvick08GT's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
Is that a steel hood? -
Resolved yesterday - new front rotors. I think the combo of lighter tires and removing the dampened steering knuckle gave significantly more feedback from my bad rotors. It was odd how it manifested itself, as it seemed worse when the driveline transitioned from loaded to unloaded. I barely felt any pulsation at all prior to the part swap. The rotors definitely fixed it though. The improvement is amazing. The car is so much easier to drive with the new setup.

Tehnation's Ballin on a budget rebuild!
Code replied to Tehnation's topic in Engine Rebuild Threads (Engines Only)
E85 an option? That’ll move her left, even better. Not sure what an 18g flows and I’m feeling lazy. I have an ancient avo380 (built on a Garrett gt28 chra) that is rated at 44lbs/min and it is an absolute pig on pump gas but brilliant on ethanol. If it’s an option it’s worth the cost I see what you’re saying though. At the upper limit of rpms that small taper might make a difference. -

Meh. In theory yes, but in practice it’s really going to depend on how big you plan to go. Are you on an EWG setup? -

It will still work fine with a Grimmspeed adapter. I ran my Cobb dp w/3” Autospeed exhaust for damn near a decade before swapping to the SPT CBE. no real downside. I now make 375/425 with the Cobb/spt setup. -
Got the car back yesterday. Took it for a good drive this morning. Something isn’t right. I get a pretty bad steering wheel shake when the suspension unloads after moderate acceleration. There is also an odd feeling when the steering rack transitions from side to side when the wheel is centered. Maybe some air trapped somewhere in PS system? No vibration at all until it starts to shake. The car tracks straight. Otherwise….WOW. The weight reduction was pretty significant at 6lbs per tire plus the aluminum bits and it is noticeable under all conditions. Acceleration, braking, handling, ride quality, and tire noise are all improved.

Sunroof - is it worth it?
Code replied to Audioqueso's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
The only issues I have with the sunroof are on an emotional level. Outside of that it’s fine. -

Of all the things that can go wrong with a used turbo 4th-gen, the sunroof should be the least of your concerns. -
BoozeRS had an sti sandwiched between a couple of legacy’s. I don’t think he misses it.

The real beauty of a 6mt/r180 swap is the front and rear LSD. Expect to spend $4-6k depending on how you choose to do it. Also expect to shift a lot.

My car went under the knife yesterday. Sti rack and knuckle are in. Spec b front LCA are on. Rear spec b parts and new wheel bearings will be done today. Tires and alignment tomorrow morning. I’m pumped. I outsourced this work to a shop for the first time in a long time and I’m happy I did. They had to fight some of the rear hardware, which was original and never touched I during my 12 years of ownership.

I’m sure someone here has a used 5speed trans laying around! If you decide to go 6MT, you can use any year STI transmission as well. Plenty of us here have made that choice. There are pros and cons to spec b vs sti 6mt.

I DD’d a WK2 (2014) Summit 5.7L quadralift and 8spd auto for a from 2015-19. Loved it but dumped it with just 70k miles because all sorts of little things were always going wrong. It was a fantastic ride with really nice interior. Just not worth the bullshit reliability. Wheel bearings, cv, water pump, frozen air compressor for suspension, radiator, drive mode selector switch, alternator….all under 70k mi. Dumped for an f150 lariat. I miss the smoother ride and the awesome tuning of the ZF 8spd trans.

Tell us what part you’re looking at and SOMEONE here will know if it fits USDM. -
