  1. Water level is fine, well above the plates and just below the max level. Level should always be above the plates. If the battery dies and the level is below the level of the plates, add just enough water to cover the plates, then charge fully. If the plates are covered with water already, charge the battery to full and add, if necessary.
  2. Nice. That's not as high a price as I thought it would be. I've got nearly 60k on mine and it's starting to slow down (a little to moderate amount). This may be it's last winter. It still passes a load test and one of those small testers shows it's stil GOOD. I put a smart charger on it weekly to keep it going. I've got a jump pack in my trunk, just in case. If it fails to start one time I'll be getting a new battery.
  3. How much did that initial battery cost? Did March battery replace the OEM? What mileage?
  4. It sounds like you have plenty of life left on your pads, especially if you're an efficient around-town driver (e.g., coast, plenty of room between cars, etc.) Good for you and your driving style. I figure AAA guys, if they're smart, will cycle through the older stock first when they're called. I don't know if it's true, but some places claim to top batteries off every so often. I've never once seen a batter pulled from a rack to be charged or touched by a tech, though it could obviously be done in the back, and I'm obviously not staking the place out to find out. When I bought my last battery I made sure to ask for the newest battery they had and they complied. The time before I didn't and they brought out the dustiest battery I've ever seen in my life. It was more than size months old and the voltage showed only a 50% SOC, so I declined; they eventually brought me a SAT battery. What also helps the life of the battery is having a smart charger, like Ctek or NOCO, as examples, to maintain the battery while you're not driving.
  5. That's not usually true. You usually get your dig in AND help. I agree that those of us who feel compelled to ONLY get the dig in should STFU and not post.
  6. I played with the auto-headlight setting and the lowest setting "min" actually comes on at dusk. I didn't test exactly when, but it was around 1630 under overcast skies here in CT, which I was pretty impressed with. I still don't like when they come on while leaving the garage in the middle of the day, so I'll stick with manual operation for now. I might see if my wife's 14 FXT has a lower setting, because she tends to drive with headlights off when they're warranted. I give her zero hard time, because I've got larger fish to fry when it comes to her...like closing all of the damned lids in the house tightly! lol
  7. Holy moly, that must have shocked (literally) the hell out of you! I can't believe they're giving you OEM parts. I also got a decent amount of OEM sheet metal when my '08 STI was hit in the front. They say that there was no aftermarket option for cheaper. Do the doors come painted?
  8. Relax. It's not the Bible. Besides, posts here are dwindling (nothing new there), so if you keep pushing away new posters you're just doing the site harm. With that said, it being a huge manual (really a set of manuals, including the main owner's manual) has been mostly offset since it's available online for download and searchable. / @ammcinnis I looked up and found the auto on/off headlight setting in the OM (thanks!), but can't find any setting regarding the interior dimmer with a quick search. Must just be a locked-in setpoint.
  9. I did not know that (or maybe I did when I read the OM 3 years ago and then forgot) - I'll reacquaint myself with it and do some testing. Regardless, I want my LB headlights on more frequently than most people and likely more often than the system is sensitive to. For instance, my drive to work is East during the morning and west during the evening. At certain times of year that's nearly blinding. There're also days where it's drizzling or snowing on bright enough days where the system might not react. I like to have my LB's on in those instances, to make myself more than just a shadow in someone's mirrors. What I'd like to know, is whether the auto LB's is tied to the when the dash lights dim. If it is, then I can tell you right now that the setting is not to my liking.
  10. I don't like anything on my headlights to be AUTO. I don't haver auto HB's, but do have auto LB's. I find they tend to come on way too late, say, for rainy days or at dusk/dawn, when being seen is more important than whether you can see fine without them on.
  11. HB's are easy to replace. I'm not sure whether I trust my '15 C-light to last forever, especially were it to be on all the time. Not worth it to me.
  12. The sound is disconcerting. I still stop and listen every time I'm in the garage and it randomly begins. With that said the first time I heard it I Googled it and found an appropriate answer. Just sayin'! How's the weather out there these days? The worst ice I've ever seen in my life was just east of MO, in IL. Heading to St Louis way back when I was completely blown away at how many cars had slipped off the side of the road, as well as how many were on their sides or upside down.
  13. I don't get how cleaning the resistor would do anything at all. Resistors have a protective coating and won't change resistance based on external dirt. The only thing I can think of is if the coating of dirt bypasses the resistor and is even slightly conductive, which would change the overall, parallel-path resistance.
  14. What do you mean by, “get the resistors”?
  15. IIRC, the EGR valve is closed during WOT. EGR lowers cylinder temps and improves gas mileage.
  16. How did the terminals fit? Did you have plenty of room for the wiring? I put a group 24 in my Forester and it’s a very tight fit wire-wise. Physically, the battery fit just fine.
  17. Would you guys quit quoting his post WITH EVERY SINGLE PIC!? Jeebus. P.s. looks good.
  18. I did the same with my previous 08 STI. I couldn’t stand the drone around town and at low loads, so I ditched it, too! That was with 4” mufflers, IIRC.
  19. An axle-back exhaust took off!? Not likely...ABE’s gain exactly zero HP. It’s a muffler only.
  20. Looks great! However, if you want more power, you chose the wrong car. It's a non-GT, non-XT Legacy.
