This could be a test for a different engine or for a hybrid?

My thought on this is that subaru will offer the current platform impreza with a turbo engine (what the spy shot could be) and the wrx will be a different platform. That way, it will fill the gap a little between someone not wanting a full on wrx but wants something faster than a stock 2.0 NA impreza

You mean 1.6 n/a? Europe now gets only one engine choice eh.
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

The CC has a significantly longer wheelbase and the rear seats are actually quite comfortable for a 6' tall person. They sit lower and the chassis is different. Even tho 4motion is available, it is essentially a FWD layout.

Tell that to the VW CC. I see more of them running around here than the new Impreza.

Speaking of those, I've never seen one car in recent history so heavily abused into absurd low rider form than the CC. It's like everyone decided, "YUP! This is it. This is the perfect herra frush vehicle."

It's all the ex GTI and Jetta-ers. They have families now so they went to the CC. And no I'm not making this up. I know of a couple ex GTI and GLI owners that have them.

My car still sounds unmistakably like a Subaru even with my ELHs.

Even us 5th gen guys have great sounding exhausts once you go aftermarket. If anyone wasn't aware, 5th gens got ELH's. All I have is an ABE and you cant duplicate the sound on any other 4 cyl, plus it doesn't sound ricey. So, I wouldnt be too worried about exhaust sound no matter what it comes out with.

He's not worried about the quality of the sound coming out of the exhaust. He's wondering if Subaru is finally going to bring the twin scroll setup stateside. I am too.

New shots released.

Update! Added video below.

Some are saying its the STI, not the WRX Concept car. If it does turn out to be the WRX Concept, then it appears that we are all going to be greatly disappointed. However, there are little things that you can see how it would indicate that it would be the STI.

For example, the STI badge on the front grill, I believe it is.

Pretty cool - the return of the original concept - take one car, add performance parts and sell it. Reminds me of 2002 WRX and 2004 STI when compared to standard Impreza, just like this one compares to 2013/2014 Impreza.

What happened to it being on it's own unique and dedicated platform? is it because they, decided it wouldn't make business sense or would an all new platform drive up the price? it doesn't look shorter than the new Impreza,it looks to be about the same size and length. So will it share body parts with the Impreza after all then? The BRZ is on it's own unique platform, and has it's own unique interior,so why can't the all new WRX get it's own unique design? it's not a bad thing that it's going to still be based on the Impreza platform, since it will still keep the cost hopefully the same as it's always been. But what i fear is, how easy will it be for regular Impreza owners,to make their car look like a WRX while it not being one? i'm hoping the new car will have it's own unique front and rear design and interior. Hopefully a unique trunk, rear design and taillights and alot of unique parts so much so that Impreza owners couldn't just slap on parts if they tried.

when have impreza owners slapping on parts ever been an issue with the WRX and STI?

Go check out nasioc. It isn't an issue, the issue is that people putting WRX or STI parts on a regular Impreza that isn't a WRX or an STI to begin with. That=posers i get that on older model N/A's they had a hood with a hood scoop on them from the factory but people doing it on the newer ones just irritates me. I hate posers.
