Ordered some raceland coilovers since struts are trashed. Also ordered camber plates, headers, fuel accumulator, fuel pump, and bought some new rubber. Has a fun time pulling fuel from the tank when you turn right. Have to turn very slowly ha. KBGRIZZLY64
Camber plates, coilovers, headers, fuel pump, fuel accumulator, fuel filter, fuel tank, steel braided fuel line, New fuel hoses, emissions vacuum control valve, new vacuum hoses, heater core on off in line valve, unbending hood hinges, hood struts, thermostat and gasket, oil change, New coolant, brake fluid flush, spark plugs and the vw is almost ready. Need to change tire sizes as my new tires rub with new suspension. Subaru "should" be done Thursday if everything goes well. Fingers crossed, expectations are set low that it will be finished by then. 3 months into this build... Drew888
Dooode, sorry for getting back to you so late. You have an 09 Spec-B so you have OEM D25 heads (assuming you haven't changed anything). Most 9.2:1 off the shelf pistons are based on the STI engine which has a 56cc chamber. The D25's have less chamber volume than the STI B25's which would mean that your actual compression isn't 9.2:1 but probably closer to 10:1 (no one has actually measured but speculate on rough math to be somewhere between 9.5-10). So in essence, picking up an off the shelf aftermarket piston labeled as having an 8.5:1 CR will net you closer to 9.2:1 which is fine as I'm running that now without issues (even better is the torque off boost) but a 10:1 CR is very bad unless you intend to use big cams and run only on E85 or Meth. If they have assembled your engine already double check the stamping on the heads and get a compression check before you drop it in. If you have D25's I'm expecting the compression to be much higher than normal. Considering I don't know what the pressure reading should be using 9.2:1 pistons on the surface it may still seem normal unless your builder is intimately familiar and notices that the pressure is even higher than he expected. I don't know if I'd chance it. I'd either look for STI heads or swap pistons (standard size forged pistons for a WRX should be just right). Please trust me, if your tuner says he can tune out 10:1 CR he's mad. Sure he can but to run on 91 octane you'll be limited to about 12 PSI and maybe 14 on 93. I'm kinda confused on what you're asking. If I were to use a stock sti block with stock pistons and use the 25 head, compression would be 9:1? So are you getting at if I put cp 9:1 pistons that compression would be more than that? Or what are you getting at? KBGRIZZLY64
So still waiting... The machine shop has terrible management where the motor and heads are currently at. They said they were only a couple days late on the time schedule for completion. That was 3 weeks ago now. Checked in last week and they haven't even touched the short block. The guy who I'm having install the motor brought the hammer down and hoping they start finishing his 6 motors he currently has there. I requested they find out what the compression ratio of the motor, which I'm sure will delay the build further but I'd rather get it right the first time. Apparently the head work is finished so now waiting game until cr is figured out to see if I should get different pistons. I just keep waiting. Been getting itchy to drive it again. Picked up a JDM honeycomb grille off valleylegacy. My homemade eBay one just wasn't what I wanted. Dear car gods, please kick the machine guys into gear, I want my car back. KBGRIZZLY64
Motor is finished and CR came back out to be 9:1. Best news in a long time. Hoping to get back end of the week then start break in. I'm going to swing by the shop tomorrow and see if I can snag some pictures. Forged pistons are definitely a little noisier. Motor Mounts make the motor much more noticeable. Had to change the mounting plates for the mounts to a wrx plates to make it work but now it's awesome. Drove for about 30 miles feels good. Tuned scheduled for March 6th for the powah! KBGRIZZLY64
I was pretty sad when he called me and told me he had to go to a new smaller battery. I bought a new one last year from Subaru because I didn't want some rando looking battery in there. The larger radiator pushed the intercooler piping further back making it impossible, even with the emissions pump removed, to install. So now I need to pull that battery and paint it black I'm thinking. Priorities change when car parts come into the equation

KBGRIZZLY64
This love hate relationship strikes again. Went to flash a new map and it failed. It bricked open the ecu and the Cobb couldn't recover it. Pulled and sent the ecu along with the Cobb to Texas. Cobb overnight shipped it back to me and replaced the screen as well as fixed the ecu for $50. Was pretty pleased at the customer service from Cobb. Hoping Thursday to have ecu back in and car running. Priorities change when car parts come into the equation

KBGRIZZLY64
Car is running, flashing like normal and going in tomorrow to get some fresh Brad Penn put in. Tune is scheduled for Friday been driving to break in the motor. Drove to Idaho springs today and have been back and forth from Denver and foco a couple times. Cobb ended up having to get their engineer to fix the ecu. They asked what I wanted to compensate for the mistake and they are sending me a rear shifter bushing. As I previously said their customer support is very good and it's refreshing compared to other companies in general. Feels great with torque solutions motor mounts. Dave with Cryotune Performance did an awesome job with the tunes and as always exceeds my expectations with his customer service.
