rob-2
This is the first time I've ever heard of this happening in an LGT in my years of servicing subarus, and it was on this site- you. Your claims are worthless, meaningless, and even moreso filled with a lack of intelligence. close this POS thread. It's amazing to me the level of ignorance that comes out when things are posted that are outside the scope of your everyday life experience. Before you start calling me stupid this applies to a range of models. Further more it's affected another member who stated his solution. bmx045
We occasionally smell gas in the car, my wife says for the last week or so. A tech friend suggested to us that the fuel lines on these cars are known to crack in cold weather. Is this true? Anyone had this problem? Estimated cost? bmx045
my judgement? no. the lack of recalls on CRACKED fuel lines, yes. seeping lines is one thing, and rather common, cracked, not so much.

Your claims are worthless, meaningless, and even moreso filled with a lack of intelligence. close this POS thread. Come on now I don't believe this is the first time you've heard about the gas smell when it's cold outside on these cars. I know I have posted about this on here for over a year now. This is a real problem, it has happened on a number of cars on this forum. I see your now pointing to the cracked lines. I will agree there that that has not been that documented on here. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). Adoniram
I think I'm going to just do the repair myself. From what I gather, I should replace 3 hoses: Fuel hose Return hose Evaporation hose Are they all the same size? Do they have special connectors on the ends, or are they just regular fuel lines with hose clamps? If they're just regular fuel hoses, I'll pick up some at the parts store, do it myself, and create a write up for everyone on the forum who encounters this in the future. While I agree that Subaru should definitely be spotting the entire repair, I don't want to give them $140 and ALSO deal with all the hassle of forcing them to correct it. I don't need the grief. Max Capacity
If you have to remove the intake manifold, you should replace the o-rings at the intake to TGV's too. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Dergara
My 2005 OUTBACK XT (105k) just started smelling of gasoline as well. Coming from the drivers side of engine. “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo
BX77
so did mine I used a quick tie like Max Capacity said and has worked ever since. Didn't take off Manifold, needle nose pliers and long fingers.
Dergara
Found the leaky hose. It's about four inches long and "L" shaped towards the front of the engine and very visible. I can tighten the clamp on one end that is not leaking. The clamp that is leaking has a long screw and can only be tightened from the bottom side. If the screw was shorter I could probably turn it around and tighten the clamp. What is the solution or do I need to visit the dealer for this? “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo

rob-2
It's almost certainly the lines. They're subpar and Subi knows it. They seem to be good for 5-7 years before they go bad in cold places.

Same with mine, I put a quick tie on the side right after the hose clamp thats upside down, hasn't leaked since, you can thank Max Capacity for that info. Max Capacity
Your Welcome. I used lock wire but a zip tie, is a good idea too. There is a picture a page or two back. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Bwell34
Just picked up an 05 Legacy GTL a week ago. Haven't had a Subie since I got rid of my 05 STi about 4 years ago... Anyways, I noticed this gas smell myself so I came here and found this thread. I checked all the lines and found the leaky one. As I didn't have any lock wire myself, I used a zip tie. Worked like a charm. Thanks for the tips people.

Dergara
Well mine was leaking pretty bad from that short hose. I went to the dealer since it is my wife's daily driver. (I'm sure this is cold weather related since we just had a cold snap.) I thought they would replace the short hose and two clamps, but they said that would require removing the manifold and 4 hours labor. Well they tightened the upside down screw with long needle nose pliers and billed me $33. I'm not sure what to think, but it seemed to fix the problem. I inquired about replacing all the hoses under the manifold and that is where the four hour labor charge came from. They said it is probably not needed until I hit 150k. I'm at 108k now. “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo

c-lo
so if I understand correct, the complaint is gas fumes in the passenger compartment? do you smell all the time or does it go away 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
