Time to get new rotors. What should I get?

I'm still on my stock rotors and it time to get new one. I was looking at getting DBA, stoptech, or powerslot rotors. This is for a car that is not track but, I'm looking for slotted, cross drilled, or both. Which one make better rotor and which will be easier on the brake pads. I'm also getting braided brake lines. Thanks for any input.

Personally the dba would be #1, with the stoptechs #2 in my opinion. I personally went dba but I figure either will do you justice.

Happy holidays

My stoptech cryos just showed up a few days ago from mike. They are really solid. The only problem is Mike said they are on a per order basis and took awhile to get the set. I was also on stock rotors @ 78K miles. DBA's looked sweet, but I don't track so they seemed a little steep for my occasional a$$ hole driving habbits.

I've been running slotted DBA 4000 on my Legacy after repeated build-up issues with the oem blanks. Have been very happy with them. DBA Survival Series 4x4 slotted rotors on the Durango towing 5000lbs coupled with Wilwood 4pots. I hit my brakes in the Durango and you go though the windshield!

I understand the stoptech are great too. I'm 100% against drilled rotors unless they are put on for track and swapped out for DD. I've cracked cross drilled rotors from a couple mfr now. I notice way more difference between pads than rotors and slotted seems to prevent my glazing issues. My 2c.

I was looking at the brands listed above because I'm dealer now and I can get them at my cost.

Not cross drilled. Not necessary, and more prone to cracks, and you actually reduce braking effectiveness due to reduced rotor mass and contact surface area.

Slotted if anything, but debateable if that really helps. They'll be harsher on your pads too because of the slots... but that's the whole point of getting them. Helps prevent glazing of pads.

Blanks are cheapest, widely available, have the most mass, and for most people are more than adequate.

I use stock OEM blanks with Hawk HPS and I can drive my car pretty damn hard at times. No problems here.

I've heard the DBA 4000 slotted rotors are excellent too, especially with the "kangaroo paw" vents.

I really wouldn't bother with cross drilled anything, unless you really want that look.

Don't do cross drilled. Most companies take blanks and drill into the rotor which makes them very prone to cracking. Even if its just fun driving. Slotted will eat through your pads faster as they are scrapping off the pad every rotation but if built right can dissipate more heat.

Honestly we use Centric premiums and HPS pads for street driving and they are perfect for that. If you want the extra performance then you have the HP+ or above. But for the extra cost of slotted or drill rotors its not worth it for the minute extra performance.

DBA5000s slotted for the fronts and Centric Premium (not slotted) for rear rotors. Got the DBAS used with Brembos, and they may be overkill for DD. DBA4000s seem quite good. So Centric Premium for entry, and DBA4000 to splurge.

Have used both Hawk HPS and Carbotech Bobcats. The Bobcats performance is superior with my calipers. The HPS seem to have a great initial bite but then they go away. It seems like the HPS grab inconsistent to the stop, and different from stop to stop. The Bobcats just grip from start to finish. They are predictable time after time. HPS dust more than the Bobcats.

For winter, I swapped out the Bobcats for some basic pads that will brake in colder temps. Federal-Mogul Wagner Quickstop. I'm actually quite impressed with them on my winter setup.

If you want DBA but don't want to splurge cuz you don't track, then look at the DBA street series. They also have slotted versions. I've also had great success with the slotted rotors from brakeswap.com Hope that helps.

Thanks! Going to be blowing these out pretty soon to clear up some excess inventory.

NOO they don't people are just haters!!

they are great rotors i have had them for years and still not cracked at all.those comments are for cheap knock offs . so yeah get what u want. i will say this tho u might not want to run them with hawk pads cause they seem to eat the rotor faster....

If you aren't cracking drilled rotors, there is a good chance you aren't driving hard enough to warrant performance rotors.

Here is my take on the DBA 4000s. I had an 05 LGT, I tracked it often and I am a race instructor. I tested out the DBA4000s v. Centric Premiums over 2 consecutive HPDE seasons. The DBA 4000s provided no extra performance over the Centric Premiums, they lasted about 10% longer than my Centric Premiums at a cost of almost 50% more.

So if you like the bling factor go for em.

well i don't track my car.so, for me i guess it's the "bling"

tho i have been driving alot and fast and they have worked great for me.

and i'm wondering......if they are not a performance upgrade to braking then why would porsche ,lamborghini,ferrari,etc...use them?

They aren't drilled on real sports cars. The rotors are made that way in the first place. They call them drilled because that's what somebody did to them.

Also, if you haven't been on a track you haven't driven your car hard. At our last endurance race, our Ford Escort Chump (Brembo blanks, Hawk HP+ pads) got the front wheels so hot that it burnt the paint on the wheels. They went from gold to black over the course of a few hours on track.

Correct. OEMs have the holes cast into the rotors from the start, eliminating the stress concentration associated with drilling a rotor. Some drilled rotors chamfer the edges, which is better than nothing, but still creates a less stable rotor.

Slotted rotors will eat your pads quickly, but the initial bite is excellent. I run slotted Stoptech rotors on my Z and they're great.

For just street driving, even spirited driving, I did:

Centric premiums

Stoptech StreetPerformance pads

Rebuilt OEM calipers

Goodridge stainless lines

ATE TYP200 brake fluid complete flush

My car stops great, even repeatedly with that setup. The ST pads do dust a lot, but I don't care, it's easy enough to wash off.

FYI, if you didn't know, Centric makes Stoptech, in case they needed some street cred :)

Thanks for all the input. I only have 58k on my '05 and I only have a 2 mi commute. So when you say slotted wear down pads quicker but, how will that effect my situation?. To be honest I think the cross-drilled and slotted rotors look good to me and would look nice on my car. But, I don't want to put anything that will make my car worst or possibly unsafe. So, stoptech, DBA, etc... fancy rotors are no better then stock and may be worse . Is that what all of you are telling me. Just get lines and pads and call it a day.
