Time to get new rotors. What should I get?

no way man. if ur not tracking that thing get some dba's...your not gonna crack them...i've had mine on for a long time now and i have had to slam on the brakes pretty hard from about 130 mph..and they felt great ! idc if they are slotted or drilled or both....i mean u def. don't need 2 piece rotors and actually i think hawk pads are over rated and eat the rotor faster. try maybe some project mu pads or ebc green stuff pads i had good luck with them in the past. i'd def. upgrade to ss brake lines tho.and throw in some super blue.

Are you posting from your phone? Ugh...

Itsme, you won't crack drilled rotors on the street. Never. You'll lose your license before that happens. If you like the look and can get a good deal, go for it. But good pads, lines and fluid will make you stop better than the rotor selection.

Yes, I'm on my phone. It's hard to proof read on this thing. English is my first language. I blame the phone for they typos and bad grammar. LOL

I've cracked cross drilled rotors from a couple mfr now. I notice way more difference between pads than rotors and slotted seems to prevent my glazing issues. My 2c.

If you aren't cracking drilled rotors, there is a good chance you aren't driving hard enough to warrant performance rotors.

Drilled rotors are just not needed or even really appropriate for DD use.

Hi all, long-time member, new poster. I thought I would add my two cents since this thread sounded very familiar. When my stock brakes finally wore out, I upgraded my Legacy GT Wagon to DBA Street-series slotted rotors front and rear, Hawk HPS pads, and Goodridge SS front lines. I don't track my car, but on the street, I don't think this combination can be beat for price to performance. Did I notice a "HUGE" difference over stock? Not really, but they are definitely strong. Maybe I don't push my car as hard as some on this board, but I am happy with this set-up, none-the-less. (PS, on the street, I think tires have as much, if not more effect on stopping, but that is just IMHO.)

you must have read my mind. I'm about to freshen up my '05. I'm going to order the DBA 4000 sloted and drilled (The ones with the Gold hubs.),braided brake lines, get my wheels repaired and refinished, and since I have everything off I will get my calipers powder coated. Just don't know what color. Since I'm a retailer I can get better prices. Let me know if you guy need anything.

So what you are saying is that the brakes you installed did not really make much difference and people should upgrade tires if they want better braking?

hey, Max I tried to call you. How is everything?

Gosh B, I've been meaning to call you and send you pics of my newborn girl. I am sure you remember the first few weeks. Loads of sleepless nights, sleeping in day, wife up when I am sleeping, baby up when everyone wants to sleep, etc, etc.

I have barely called or talked to anyone. Things are finally started to settle down (its been 10 days) and I am started to get a routine. We are both off work so focusing on the baby. I will give you a shout this weekend...

Out of all the parents I know, you are an amazing father and I look forward to picking your brain and emulating you.

We have done extensive testing on LGTs with the Centric Premium v. DBA 4000s. The DBAs last 10% longer and cost about 45-50% more than the Centrics. We did about 10k of track testing and 20k of street testing with no other mods done on the cars...

Were you talking about these http://s3.amazonaws.com/dpi_products/10022157/DA42808S_HERO_2.jpg

or these DBA 4000 http://s3.amazonaws.com/dpi_products/10022157/DBA%2042650XS.jpg when you compared them to centric rotors. Also has anyone tried the stop tech stage 2 brake setup the includes lines, 4 rotors and pads? Thanks

Congrats dude! Be sure to let BMX know about your car seat thread  My son is almost 18 months now, and LOVES the LGT. Probably helps that my wife's car is a Jeep Liberty, lol.

The Centric Premium is a great rotor for a street driven car. Good to know they work well on track cars as well. I currently run those with Stoptech Street Performance pads, and the combo works great. However, I will be switching to EBC Redstuff next time, as the ST pads are VERY dusty.

We tested the older ones, the gold-topped ones. Testing was done at VIR, Pocono Raceway and Watkins Glen in 2008-2010 on our 2005 Legacy GT 5MT Wagon running Hawk HP+ Pads.

If you get slotted & drilled rotors, make sure you get the ducting to go with them. It will keep them cool and ease the worry about cracking them.

I have DBA4000 with Hawk DT60/70 for the track. I melted all the paint off the rotors in the first session...>1100 degrees. 2 days later, I boiled the brake fluid (Motul 600) in the last session and the brake pedal went to the floor. Getting back to the paddock was dicey, as the e-brake was the only reliable brake I had.

As this never happened running Centric blanks with Hawk HPS with bargain brand DOT4 fluid, I'm thinking of switching back. Am I nutz?

Here is the question for you...

Are the tires, suspension etc the same? What are your lap times like before/after?

If your lap times are the same, then I would start to investigate your calipers, make sure they aren't sticking. Next I would change 1 variable and see if there is any difference. Changing more than 1 variable at a time will not yield good test data.

Please keep us posted.
