SpecBamf41
go with sti rods. they can handle. but its a 2.2 aint it? do sti rods work? BNR18g on 93oct
subikid90
I have my 97 POS and 98LGT. I sold the 01LGT to my roommate this summer. STi rods will work because I am putting a phase II crank and doing a thrust conversion. I can get aftermarket parts on a machine shop discount, OEM parts are at dealer cost. I will have to see what is cheapest, since reliability seems to not be a factor. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
DOHCEJ22E1
You're going to end up with something like 2.3Ls using the 257 crank. With the 205 heads, you should have that nice touch between low-end TQ & mid-range punch until you get the cams you need in there. Sounds like a nice & balanced build! subikid90
Thats what I am hoping for. I might throw STi cams and block off the AVCS holes. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
subikid90
The block is at the machine shop getting #5 thrust conversion!! I ordered my crank and I should hear back for JE on the pistons next week. Anyone have experience running a long rod motor? I am kinda thinking about it... -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

Ordered LW crank pulley, LW Flywheel, BC springs and retainers, Supertech valves, scat rod and wiseco pistons. subikid90
I wont be mad lol. I might even have an identical motor for sale this summer, but it will be sleeved. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
monkeyposeur
This is a noob question, but why sleeve an EJ22T? Was it to fix something, or what?
subikid90
Yes it lost a piston at 6k rpm and left a nice mark in cylinder 4. I got the block for free and my machine shop wants to sleeve it for the experience, so it will only cost me parts when all said and done. I do not know of anyone that has sleeved an EJ22T, so it will be an experiment kinda lol. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
monkeyposeur
There is a guy on igotasubaru.com, rek888v2 who built an EJ22T with "Darton Sleeves, CP 9:1 Compression Pistrons, Pauter 2.5 RS rods, 08 STi crank achined to thrust position 5, ACL main anbd rd berings, STi heads, Crower Stage 2 cams and Springs, and Manley valves and retainers." He also told me he'd sell it for $2500. That's too much for me right now.
subikid90
I will have to go check that out. That is a good price considering how much just having sleeves installed costs. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

subikid90
Just sent money on a set of GSC S2 cams. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03vqhUJP0Ec&feature=related]Subaru GSC 272 S2 Camshafts - YouTube[/ame] I cannot wait for a loopy boxer rumble! Now I need to find a turbo to suit this build. Think of an 18g and running around 18-22psi. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
subikid90
Update: last week I was able to go home for the week, and made a little progress. We were able to get the heads cut for +1mm valves and decked. The torque plate showed up the day I left so the bore and hone should be done this week sometime. I don't have any pictures, I was too busy trying to get this thing together. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

Kennyfvholla
I've seen that happen a few times before. If you need that tensioner pulley I may have a spare one for you.. The replacement motor that I am rebuilding right now has the new style tensioner, of which the bolt stripped out. I'm dealing with a similar issue.
