What'd you do to your FIRST Gen. Subaru today?

Recommended Posts

Did a quick and dirty install today at lunch. I just had to drive home with the new wheel. I absolutely love it!! Still need to address the horn wiring and cruise delete.

Got my interior swapped. What a pain in the ass. Passenger seat had a bent rail but managed to get three bolts in so it'll be fine. I swapped over the buckles as well like bcmaxx did. The auto retractors are practically garabge now, not like they worked perfectly to begin with. Owell. Riding position is now higher for viewing, which I enjoy since the body lift was put in. See how driving goes these next few days since these seats are a bit more firm.

Nice! Direct bolt in? I need some seats for mine that don't suck and I haven't had any luck finding a set of JDM seats.

WRX seats should be a direct bolt-in and are some of the best replacements in the first gens.

I had rears in mine, and my brother's wagon had WRX split folds, though we did need to modify them a bit. To my knowledge, we were the first to put WRX rear seats in a wagon. No one else had, at that time.

I'll be putting them in tonight. Only thing im going to miss the 60/40 split. These only have the middle pass-through. Owell, I can still fit my fishing poles through it, and that still makes me a happy camper.

We had to mod to make the 60/40s fit, but, I think they'll fit a sedan just fine. Biggest factor there is the high back headrests on them -- gets in the way of rear visibility.

Been busy the last couple weeks, new motor is installed and running great. I had a couple leaks on the first test drive. The powersteering reservoir to pump O-ring leaked all over my head. The turbo oil feed wasn't torqued down, so it leaked all over my wrapped up-pipe. After pressure washing and exhaust wrap finally burning off, everything worked out.

Upon further inspection, there was nothing wrong with my old ej20g. This one has a little more compression and bottom end torque. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u386/onefastlt/CAM00298_zps5i9x3yj9.jpg

Also, plasti-dipped my wheels. Only did the driver's side to see if I like it.

Then, I traded a turbo chimney for RS hood vents. It will be the next project if nothing else goes wrong.

'04 WRX hood scoop installed. No cutting, just 2 small holes drilled in the hood. Stock under hood deflector retained.

GT might not be a bad idea to paint the hood black. I'm considering it too, or the whole car actually but in orange or a blue of some sort. Luckily I did some paint correction myself to pull out a lot of the oxidation in the paint. It's just my window trim that makes things not look as sharp.

The stoopid ass previous owned sanded the hood, roof, trunk and spoiler like a dumb ass. Plastidip, maybe paint, is in my near future.

This weekend I also got the Sparco steering wheel install buttoned up and the horn working. And installed Rally Armors on the rear.

USLiberty, your engine bay looks familiar.. What color was the car before it was painted white? Does your VIN end in 3657?

LOL, doubt you've seen it before, nothing is stock under the hood except that blue color. My engine bay is kinda empty for being a turbo legacy... with no battery, no ABS, no airbox or MAF meter. I've actually never seen another subaru running sequential AEM coilpacks. LOL, just giving you a hard time.

It was the light metallic blue car on the right. I got hit in my turbo legacy and swapped everything over to the shell. I got it for 500$, it was a N/A FWD car, it spent 255k miles in Phoenix, AZ.

I only ask because mine was identical -- not many Legacies with an EJ20g in that blue color. I surrendered it to a JY in July of 2008. . .

Nice! Not many of them at all, which is strange considering it's what the legacy came with overseas. It's a lot cheaper to go jdm if you have a catastrophic failure. However, you have to be pretty good at electrics and have a lot of time.

How did you run your engine management?

When I did the swap in 2002, I attempted to run the factory 22t harness. Tried several configurations, but I wasn't online or digging into forums back then. I ended up buying a link plus wire-in engine management and having Outfront Motorsports doing the initial tuning.

No shit?

Mine was a frankenmotor -- 20g bottom, 22t heads/intake/ECU. Ran just fine, but was at 9.5:1 on stock turbo, no TMIC. I had audible det when I ran it hard. It needed to retard timing, for sure, but wasn't able to, for whatever reason. Strange, considering how smart Subaru's ECUs typically are.

I did my swap in. . '06. No tune, no nothing. Just straight gangsta.

I will say, with a LWFW, 4.11s and a rear viscous LSD, that car was fast. Scads of low-end, super quick acceleration. It used to rock, laterally, whenever I took off or punched the throttle. I always swear that it was me and that car that started the turbo Subaru scene in Puyallup before I left in '07. When I came back, everyone had one!

If I hadn't lost the car, I'd still have it today -- It was the first one I ever built, and cried like I lost a child when it went away. ;(

Just helped my buddy pick up a 93 TW. It has an MRT Performance 3" turboback. Winning!!!

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/02/6a5ed1a855aa4bfec50dc50f368619d2.jpg

How did it sound with the MRT?

Also, are there any cons to running a full 3" Turboback exhaust? Or is it better to go with a 3" DP and 2.5" after? Would the full 3" hurt spool or not allow proper backpressure? This is on a stock SS, BTW. TD04 will be going in a few months.

3" will be fine, so will 2.5" -- Pick your poison, backpressure isn't really an issue, here. 3" DP, tapered to 2.5" shouldn't be a problem, either.

The only thing that will hurt spool is if you, say, slapped that TD04 on there and then put on a 2" UP with no taper -- you'll spool like a lazy dog.

Send a PM to JmP6889928, I think he's got a custom TD04 at the moment.

monkey, the MRT sounds very nice. Not at all loud, not quiet either but pleasantly audible. His wagon is an automatic, so it's not crisp sounding on the shifts like a manual and as a result you don't get the "grrrrr" that you would with a clutch in. Maybe a 2 or 3 on a scale of 0=stock cans and 10=straight pipe. I don't see any down side to 3" all the way back, that's what I am planning on and in fact I have all the parts sitting in the garage to start constructing the axleback section of my custom system. 3" Turbobacks are plentiful on EJ20 and EJ25 builds. I don't think they would be designed that way by all the aftermarket companies and you would see more 2.5" systems out there if there was a significant downside. I say let her breathe.
