Yep, two silver hatchbacks, otherwise not a whole lot of resemblance. Under the skin these two cars couldn't be more different either.

The same comparison could be made for dozens of other cars. Basically, almost all cars in every class will look similar because anytime a company tries to go outside the box, they get slammed in blogs and discussion boards. Look what being wierd did for Saab. Subaru's sales couldn't be better so apparently blandifying their cars is working. Personally, looks and brand are pretty low on my priorities in a car as I don't buy a car as a status symbol. Just give me something that doesn't look ridiculous and or overly boring. I happen like some of the more "out there" designs, but I am in the minority as these cars generally don't sell very well. I happen to be a big fan of boxy cars like the Ford Flex, Nissan Cube, and Kia Soul. They offer a ton of utility in relatively small packages and look different in an interesting way to boot.

My biggest complaint is why can't Subaru offer a proper wagon like the Legacy that looks like this?

I dislike the "it looks like" game, but the rear does resemble the Dodge Caliber, to some degree.

I'm on the fence a bit, with that rear styling, but otherwise I see this car as a great leap forward. Plus, the loss of the 2.5 in the base model will cause very little remorse, what with a 36mpg rating with the new 2.0. That's what base buyers want, anyway, largely.

Excited for the WRX and STi. :)

If they manage to keep the interior as nice as the Legacy, I don't see why it couldn't be.

The interior space would be about the same, probably the same powertrain options (if not better).

Only downside would probably be insurance (assuming they don't royally screw things up).

I'm lame, but I like the design of the hatch.

Think of it this way. If the new Rex is a Mini-Legacy, we are in a way finally getting our Legacy STi.

:whore: That was my line of thinking as well

All those complaining about the '10 Legacy being too big now have a new, smaller Legacy (except in name).

The downside is that I was hoping for a turbo H6 in my idea of a Legacy STI. I don't think that'll happen with the new Legacy-inspired STI.

And who are they competing with?

I think that the horsepower race is over and they will be about the same, what counts now is to work on fuel economy because it sells the bulk of the cars.

But the ring record is a good hint that horsepower isn't everything. Doesn't matter how many horsepowers you have if your chassis is like a boiled spaghetti.

I wouldn't call it a mini Legacy. While the 05-09 Legacy isn't really "luxurious", it is more upscale than the Impreza will probably ever be.

you can tell toyota had a hand in "airflow" design

the back sharp corner line is what they use on the prius.

it helps with the turbulance

I think it's mostly a cosmetic feature. We are going back to the "boxy" car style of the 70's and 80's... Volvo 240 is going to be "the thing" again!

:hide:

No we are just waiting for brightly-colored cars too.
