turbo 3.0R?

Recommended Posts

Actually I didn't pay that much for my '06 LGT about a month ago. I am loving it so far as it's my first turbo car, but not first "project".

I do think it's appropriate to weigh the cost and do your homework before you jump right in to a project. At the same time one guy's knowhow and opportunities may be different than someone else's experience. It's not going to cost everyone the same amount of money to do a project every time.

My question was to find out if it had been done. I would enjoy seeing that build and at the same time may come up with my own approaches to achieve what I like. With some of the ingenuity I see on this site I don't doubt that there are guys on here that could make it work.

Has it been done? Yes. Google/YouTube Perrin H6 Sti.

Has it been done well? No. Jeff did a good job trying to cover his bases, and that car burned through almost half a dozen motors.

The bottom line is that the H6 weighs about as much as the EJ257 with it's turbo bits. You can make way more than reasonable power with a built EJ257, and it'll still weigh less than your Turbo H6.

I'm ALL about off-the-wall projects. I think the better option, if you are die-hard set on a 6-cylinder project, is to pick up a 3.0R variant and invest some time into supercharging it. Swap out the 5EAT for a 6-speed, and I bet you'd have a pretty fun ride at the end of it.

ANYTHING can be done

I'm sure if someone had the ingenuity, tools, and desire, it could be accomplished. Probably for less than 15 grand.......

But at the same time, you could buy an LGT platform and put 1/2 as much into modding the engine and suspension and have a better performing vehicle.

Most likely the reason why we haven't seen it done.... yet

No. Its been done. Did you miss the previous post about the half dozen engines it ate after major investments?

Not knocking Frank's franknsuby in any way but thats a considerably easier install than a custom TT 3.0R with ems. Come to think of it, I'm sure the LS1 transplant was easier too.

MOST ANYTHING CAN BE DONE WITH ENOUGH CASH AND RESOURCES. Worth it? Only to a nutjob with a lot of extra cash who wants something really different.

Would it be cool? Hell yes.

No, actually I had my post typed and stepped away for a second, when I hit submit the previous post was submitted.....

Anyway.... as mentioned, with enough resources and talent, it CAN be done...

Which leads to Rao's question.. WHY?

You should do a spec-b swap. That would be the business.

No. Make his a Tube Frame. Spec-B's frames are forged by the hammer of Thor. They cannot be replicated by such pedestrian methods.
