Nice!! How do you like the Orient? It's a brand that I'm considering for my nephew's graduation present.

They're ok.

Back in the days I had had a couple of SEIKO quartzes + an automatic, and I didn't find myself with the newer styles they had.

I wanted an Automatic sporty style that was not too bulky, so initially I went with this one as a cheap try-out. Very satisfied, keeps time within max. +10 sec./month.

Only con is the rather light bracelet construction of this model.

Infact the other Orient I have (post#167) is a different league (price, construction, weight etc.), that one has a rugged case+bracelet construction more like the Seiko 5 Sports I have.

The Glashütte instead is still yet another league, in every way ;)

i have about 5 swiss army's... love them all. Some more than others :)

i think my favorite daily wearing watch is luminox ('navy seal') watch. It is so comfortable and light to wear. Keeps great time... Fairly durable. Pricey for a plastic watch, but like i said - love it!

Try a Bertucci, I was in love with my Luminox until I got it. I could have only 2 complaints for this Bertucci, it has solid lugs so you have to use 1 piece or open ended bands, and they don't offer the A2-T in a tritium model. It's more durable that other the Nox's I had and held up to the abuse much better.

That one looks pretty good. Fits into the price range of what I want to spend for an automatic for my nephew, and he likes bigger watches, so 43mm is as small as I would consider.

My most recent is a Tag Heuer Aqua Racer. I have my sights set on an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (Orange Bezel). I'm also keen on the Bell & Ross Aviator series.

My tastes have grown into larger/heavier watches, going back to smaller/lighter ones just doesn't feel right anymore, nothing in the sub-40mm range imo.

My current favorite is my Bulova Precisionist (the one below). I also have 3 Fossils (two straps and a bracelet) and a Nixon Player (the same two tone color variant as below) that I mix in depending on mood/what I'm doing/wearing.

On a watch repair note, and I have no connection with these folks, other than using them for watch repair.

My Porsche Design Chrono lost a chrono button awhile back. Checked with some local folks and nobody repairs them. Found a coupla places that will mail it in to a PD repair facility, but why pay them a cut to be a middleman?

Found these folks:

Used their shipping label, and sent it to them a coupla weeks ago. Turns out it has to go back to the mothership (PD factory) for repair. Currently awaiting their results.

Anyway, these folks have been great! Used their mailing label, and they have been in constant email contact with the staus on the repair. I will definitely use them again if I need service on a watch.

not yet, maybe for a casual watch

but japan quartz pretty much dominates the entry level watch market and swiss movement is so established it's kind of hard to upset that apple cart

+1

Although I will never again buy a quartz watch (but I made an exception!!)

The Japanese Citizens 21-jewel movements work well, and I'm sure the Chinese are doing the same. For me, the Invicta automatics are daily-wear watches, and the "good ones" sit in the safe a lot more. When you can buy an automatic for under $100, why waste time (no pun intended) with a quartz?

Anyway, I ordered one of these yesterday:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JNYULA]Amazon.com: Garmin Forerunner 110 GPS-Enabled Unisex Sport Watch (Black): GPS & Navigation[/ame]

Not too easy to find a GPS watch in an automatic! Started looking at the 405 models, but after some research, this 110 will fit my needs better.

interesting, did not even know that combination existed GPS + automatic

I don't believe it does. That Garmin is quartz with a rechargeable battery. I think rporter was saying that he made an exception to his rule and bought a quartz watch because you can't get a GPS enabled automatic watch.
