No offense to Paul or AVO. But has anyone been able to find the 2 engine covers for less than $125? I know there is very little room to work with on a Subaru part but for 2 pieces of ABS plastic I was expecting around $75. I will likely be ordering these from you Paul but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen a better deal. Thanks in advance.

I'd love to sell them cheaper, but since these are not even normal accessories, Subaru prices them as replacement parts, which is where they must make their major profits. It reminds me of a fact-finding article once. They investigated the price of replacement parts for a 89 era Nissan Maxima, that was around 30 grand from the dealer. But if you built one from parts ordered from the dealer, it would cost 85 grand. (This article was going into the reason thieves love to steal cars and sell the parts). :/

Cheers,

Thanks Paul. I appreciate your comments. The sad thing is that every automaker overprices replacement parts. Well, I will have to determine if the covers are worth it. Thanks for your help in making these parts avaliable to North America.

Is it easier for you to take orders via email or the AVO website? About how long would it take to ship these out?

Thanks.

Hey Paul,

Sorry I didn't post sooner about these covers. I ordered them about two months ago and everything mounts up perfect in my Subie. It does make the engine compartment look cleaner ad confuses the heck out of the Subie dealer where I get all the parts. Paul is a big help and great to work with. I ordered my side rain visors and he went out of his way to ship them to me through DHL to Alaska. The shipping from Japan is nothing compared to getting stuff shipped from the lower 48 states so I think $125 is a steal.

QUESTION.....

Does the new covers we're all talking about chance your visibility to check fluid levels at all? Don't mean to be a downer but I'm just looking at all angles. If it does than this could be a reason SOA didn't go for the covers. They thought Americans would be too stupid to check take the covers off to check fluids so they dropepd them.

I'm most concerned with PS fluid and Radiator fluid. Windshield isn't a big deal you can wait until its gone without too much of a problem. However radiator and PS is a must!

I will say that I'v never had any fluid in my engine bay except for windshield wiper need to be topped off or refilled. INCLUDING engine oil. Everything has been right on. Which is nice..especially since it is a new car. :)

If someone could wake this thread up and let me know on visibility of indicators for various fluids that would be great.

THANKS.....

Also anyone instlal these since last year when this thread was first started?

How do you like?

The funniest part would be to bring it to a dealer and watch them scratch their head as they wonder where all these covers came from.

However, most of us who mod and change engine components probably dont' visit the dealer too often.

Paul, the price you stated on the CF cover is for just the engine cover correct? Can you additionally quote a price/availability of the other CF pieces in the preceding pictures. I know that you can get the CF cover from "Mature" through Japanparts but have never seen anyone make available the air box, battery cover etc. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Here are some other pictures if you want an idea of what you can and cannot see. Nothing other than the power steering fluid seems to be covered. You can still tell that there is fluid in the wiper bottle, so it isn't really being blocked too much.

That is why I braced it in the corner with the hose coming out. That way it is almost like it is held on at three points instead of two and it doesn't wobble. At least, it doesn't wobble unless you make it. Without something in that little bulge it would wobble if you blew on it. Now it is fairly solid. Solid enough that it doesn't rattle or make me worried that it will pop off.

I don't want to destroy anyone's business deals here, yet I really don't get the appeal of these plastic covers. I mean... what exactly are they useful for? Am I missing something...

That's a HKS air intake pipe (pretty standard issue) which a pod on the end - about the same thing as the AVO or other intake pipes. It's been covered by Shinanome Super Autobacs carbon cold air box setup there. I think nearly any intake pipe replacement system would fit under there as long as the pod isn't too big and the pipe long enough. I don't know the exact pricing of the carbon fiber cold air box, but other kits of similar make that I've seen there were retailing around $800+ usd.
