TSiWRX
The Pirellis have generic studs, right? Correct - mine are the generic studs that TireRack uses. That's part of the reason why I made my comment to bigskydoc back on the Tires By Web thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3194328&postcount=22 Here is a nice Russian article on the unique, multifaceted, dumbell shaped studs that Continental is using in their new ContiIceContact tire: http://www.autoreview.ru/_archive/section/detail.php?ELEMENT_ID=73836&SECTION_ID=2158 Despite these new studs, the new CIC tire did not outperform the Hakka7 on any of the ice tests done by NAF. Nokian engineers really do know how to get the best possible ice traction, it seems. ^ +1. The Hakkas are rightfully a legendary line. <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
outahere
.........But I was able to read a bit about a recent significant development for halogen lighting: "........Presented for the first time to the public in the forthcoming Paris Motorshow in October, the new Peugeot 508 headlamp made by Valeo will be equipped with Valeo's New Efficient Optics for the Low Beam. In addition to the traditional complex-surface reflector, a specially-designed lens replaces the bulb shield to catch more flux and to make the optical system more efficient........" "...........The bulb shield is replaced by an internal lens and there are 2 reflectors: The inboard reflector close to the bulb sends most of the light to the internal lens in order to illuminate the foreground out to 50 meters. The outboard reflector illuminates the road beyond that distance. The result is a hot spot of more than 40 Lx (25,000 cd) with an illumination of around 40 Lx at 75R and a 1-lux spread of around 35° left and right." "It delivers high-level lighting performances for halogen bulbs and offers a clear styling differentiation. We are looking forward to get feedback from the Peugeot 508 release to confirm our strong expectations on this technology." Here are 2 photos of these interesting looking Valeo NEO lamps (on a Ford Ranger): http://lh3.ggpht.com/_KGfzm8H5i0c/S0mzIYLY9aI/AAAAAAAATow/DwFvxCixdBw/teste+drive+ford+ranger+06-01-2010+14.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_KGfzm8H5i0c/S0mzJzUn7fI/AAAAAAAATo0/RHuONZSFrJk/teste+drive+ford+ranger+06-01-2010+12.JPG

TSiWRX
Heya outahere. Yep, ice heading our way. We'll see! There's wrecks all over the place earlier this AM, though. For some reason, it seems that the plows really got behind, in several townships, overnight. Can't figure out why, though - since only about 4 inches of snow fell, over a 6-hour time-span that ended well before the AM rush. ----- Those Valeo NEOs look interesting. Maybe I need to go take a test-drive at night? <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
