LGTspecB1657615261
I have a catless DP and 3" custom midpipe/y-pip with a Megan Racing resonator in the midpipe. Right now I am running stock mufflers but would like a deeper tone exhaust. Something similar to what the prodrive mufflers provide. The autospeed CBE also has a nice deep tone. I know the combination of the resonator and mufflers determines the sound, so it will be tough to reproduce those exact exhausts. My question is, is there a particular muffler that is known to provide a deep throaty tone vs. others? I have been looking at Magnaflows, and I know there is Borla, Thrush, and others. Is there a specific brand that is known for deep throaty mufflers? Does it come down to muffler design? I don't have a problem figuring out what size I need, etc... I just want to know if there should be a brand or style to shoot for in order to get the deep throaty tone. Thanks!

LGTspecB1657615261
Here is a Magnaflow that would probably also fit: http://www.hottexhaust.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=12225 I would paint it flat black. I actually think some LGT's on this board have this muffler or something similar from Magnaflow.
rao
You don't want that Holley muffler, or any chambered muffler anywhere near a turbo. The Magnaflow is good choice. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT

I am guessing you have no resonator in the mid? Anything w/o resonator is loud. I have a pretty long resonator in my 3" mid, so that will help. If you DO have a resonator, then yes, I would be concerned with these mufflers since our setups will be about the same.
coldradio1
Magnaflows FTW! I've yet to hear a car they don't sound good on.
scoobydoobie
I've got custom magnaflows mated to the stock mid/y pipe. Everything upstream of that is aftermarket. Volume wise, its great, not too loud at all and absolutely no drone. I would like a deeper tone though and am considering going to a full CBE in order to do that. Just don't want to increase volume or drone at all so it will be kinda tough.

jerseyglock
I'm running LaChute's 3" from turbo back (catted) with stock mufflers, much quieter than Magaflow mufflers (maybe lost few hps too). I liked the Manaflows at first but it was just too loud.
LGTspecB1657615261
Right now I am just a bit louder than stock... its nice, but not mean. I love the rumble that comes along with the Autospeed CBE or prodrive mufflers. I just cant afford prodrives, but love this deep note: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekwfB5mMSxQ&feature=related]YouTube- Legacy GT Exhaust Rev[/ame] The Autospeed has a nice note too: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsOL4MSoHs&feature=related]YouTube- Legacy GT Autospeed exhaust[/ame] So this is what I am trying to acheive. My custom midpipe and y-pipe were inexpensive to have made... so I know they will throw on some mufflers for super cheap. Now, I just want to find some that will give me a note that is similar to the exhaust notes in the vids above.
legacychick
Vibrant makes some nice looking mufflers. LGTspecB1657615261
Which muffler is that? What are the specs on the rest of the exhaust system? Looks like the Vibrants will be about the same on price as the Magnaflows... but perhaps they are floating around Ebay or something. I will look into them for sure. clarkwgriswold
I've got Magnaflow 5x8 mufflers (part #12216) with no cats. It is pretty tame with normal driving and a nice rumble when you get on iy. It's about 1/2 as loud as the cat-back they make for the legacy. You wont be disappointed. This is the only video I have. In car 30 - 100. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F0pdyEGYws]YouTube- legacy gt wagon vs wrx wagon[/ame]

They look like the mufflers with the oval tip. That is correct, that was my old setup on my 05 5eat. I never thought that video was still being viewed lol. The mufflers are http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1021_1031_1053_1108_1195&products_id=1155 Apparently they were lachutes old design. They are very bassy, and make no mistake they get loud. Driving down a street if i got on it the car alarms would go off. If you use a stock mid and y you should be fine though. If you use a 3 inch mid and y make sure you put on a resonator. However there is no rasp which to me is a good thing. 2008 6mt Legacy Gt Spec B DGM - Not so Stock/Work in progress 2006 5mt Legacy Gt OBP - Sold 2005 5eat Legacy Gt OBP - RIP R.I.P Coxx
drkknight99
Im going to bring this thread from the dead back to life, in hopes someone can enlighten me. Im looking to take a perrin mid and y, and pair it to a set of mufflers. What do i need to look for in particular when choosing a muffler? What size will fit in the cut outs, without burning the bumper? I was hoping maybe i could pair these mufflers, or something similar to the y pipe, but unsure of size or fit. http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1021_1031_1053_1108_1195&products_id=1162 or http://meganracing.com/product_detail.asp?prodid=385&catid=

DrSpeed
You don't want that Holley muffler, or any chambered muffler anywhere near a turbo. Why is that? Some kind of flow characteristics because it's more of a steady flow than pulse? BANNED FROM THE TIKI FORUM.
