  1. FWIW I was never able to center mine either after multiple tries. I got it closer though.
  2. I just helped install one. Easy stuff. I am impressed with the attention to detail on the coding (I have developed electronic devices before). Nicely built too.
  3. we are going to need you to get a better camera looks good though. With some heat and patience its not hard to do the grill with vinyl, I did mine. But as mentioned, flat black paint would work too. If you have left-over vinyl I would just re-do the grill. Does water bead up on this stuff? Do you ever have to treat or finish it? How do you wash it? How do you deal with tar and sap?
  4. yes get a tune. see if that helps, I imagine it would.
  5. I wish I had that hot pipe. I am holding boost but I am surprised I am able to just looking at the connections. Mine did not line up well either.
  6. As an update I am hitting 18 lbs of boost now after installing a smaller pill. Things look good and I finally sent Infamous the first official 3rd gear pull with everything working. The vf43 pulls hard in the mid-range. wowza. great street turbo for the money.
  7. I have not found that method very effective for leaks that show up in boost. Its easy to have a leak show up under boost but hold fine under vac. Have someone rev it to 3k RPM while you squirt foaming hand soap (refill) on the connections. That stuff bubbles very easily when there is a leak, but stays bubble free if you use a large syringe (don't use a sprayer). I found it to be a very effective way of finding leaks.
  8. your core is way more on center than mine. congrats!
  9. I just pressurize through the turbo inlet (I take my intake off), and I don't do anything else. I don't cap the TB end. Is that bad? I only use about 10 psi and find most of the leaks that way. I use foaming soap refill, it works great. Just suck it through a wide syringe of sorts and squirt it on the coupler connections.
  10. I did a log today. Hit 13.5 psi and held it pretty far out. 250 g/s but still tuning maf, so not sure how accurate that is. My WGDC is beyond the target (initial) table, and pretty much pegged at the max WGDC table, which I think means I have a boost leak. Still. hmph.
  11. Bryan, My pipe does NOT look like this. See how the left side is shorter in the above pic? The pipe I have is 2 left sides welded together. I would say my pipe is at least 2" shorter than what is depicted above. Because of this, I am having a heck of a time lining up the pipes (as you can see in my posts). I did not even think of this, but I should have looked at Balrock01's pipes when I was over at his house to see what his looked like. crap.
  12. It might not be symmetrical, but it looks nothing like yours. BTW one side is further in the coupler than the other, so in the pictures it might not look as symmetrical. Looking at your pics, and spranks pics, my pipe is VERY different than the ones in your pictures. I cannot angle the third hotpipe any differently to make it better, I tried. I seriously think my WRX "adder" pipe is wrong.
  13. hmmm I will look again. I might just try cutting more of my j-pipe to make it shorter. If you look at my pictures above, it looks like it will level out the WRX pipe and make it line up better with the third hotpipe. Meanwhile my 30 day timer with Infamous is counting down....
  14. Oh yea, take a look at my coolant inlet. It does not look that bad - I just flipped the stock hose right around! I should replace the outlet hose for sure though.
  15. I was afraid to bend it like that. My stock hose, flipped around, worked fine. Maybe I should replace the bottom hose, it was a bit of a stretch to get it to fit. Ok so here are pictures. I had to lift the third hotpipe (the long one), really high to get the pipes even close to lining up. As you can see, the lower the third hotpipe, the worse the angle gets between the crooked fitting. the only way to make that fitting less crooked is to lift the third hotpipe up as high as it can go. so that is what I did. cutting the j-pipe 1" shorter allowed the second hotpipe to line up with the j-pipe, for the most part. Its all still really haphazard. The connection below my intake is not real happy either... it does not line up great since I had to lift that long pipe up. The turbo coupler is pretty stressed too. The other 3 pipes lift up on it. I don't really trust the connection. Its hard to describe, but this was the best alignment I was able to come up with. Trust me, I tried everything too. I am going to make a custom hot-pipe.
  16. I cut my j-pipe shorter and that helped a bit, but its still not ideal. My STI "adder" pipe looks nothing like the ones I have seen in the pictures thus far, mine is shorter and the angle between the ends is sharper. I think I am going to buy a 2" U-pipe to replace the both J-pipe and the sti turbo "adder pipe". The way my hoses line up, it seems a U-pipe would be perfect (with one leg shorter than the other). I might buy a 1.75" -> 2" coupler for the sti turbo... I still don't like how loose of a fit it is. I guess my car just hates me. I have been fiddling with this for days and tried just about every orientation. Oh well. I will figure it out.
  17. I think a 45 degree coupler at the TB would be nice. It would keep the pipe off the brake reservoir / booster, and it would make for a better connection there. I would angle the 45 upward and slightly towards the driver's side of the car. I wish they made a 22 degree coupler, that would be more appropriate. 45 might be too much. http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=14&products_id=917&osCsid=e273acaaf368ed7b4c44581757167921 I might also get a 2" hump hose straight coupler for the hotside, that might allow for some better play in the pipes. http://www.siliconeintakes.com/product_info.php?cPath=5&products_id=12&osCsid=e273acaaf368ed7b4c44581757167921 $33 for both + shipping. Might be worth it. grimm, what are your thoughts? we seem to have the same fitment issues. Also, is it bad that I re-used the LGT rubber coolant line on the turbo feed for my STI turbo? I see in the pic below that someone used a straight coolant hose here. I just flipped my LGT hose around and twisted it a bit. It seems to work just fine. I also used the same coolant outlet hose as well, the sti coolant outlet tube was pointing upwards slightly. http://legacygt.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=605&pictureid=3246
  18. I keep getting leaks at the TB coupler. The 180 degree cold pipe is angled slightly down, but the coupler coming off the TB is pointing straight back. This makes my clamp crooked with respect to the coupler and I have a slight leak there (little bubbles). I STILL have a leak at the BOV as well. I am going to need a thicker rubber gasket. I am not making a mess with any silicone gasket maker. The recirc hose is putting a ton of stress on the BOV because of the poor alignment. I might try to heat and cool that hose to see if I can relieve the stress on it. Anyway, there is the update. Boost leaks galore, just tracking them down.
  19. msprank - I get it, you have had amazing success with this kit. I understand your frustration when others do not have the same results as you. Please don't take any of this personally, and I hope Bryan doesn't either. grimm and I are seeing the EXACT same issues, perhaps our kits are from the same batch. my hot pipes do not line up nearly that good. I have installed many FMIC kits and even fabricated some. you will just have to trust that the kit I have must be different than the kit you took those pictures up. Nothing I could do would get my pipes to line up like that. my core alignment looks nothing like that either. Sorry man. It is what it is. We all know Bryan designed a nice kit, nobody is questioning that. I will make it work, I will figure it out. You have been a help.
  20. I agree with all the above comments, I ran into the exact same stuff ^^^^^ FYI AutoZone has a roll of rubberized gasket material for about $5, its a great deal for the amount you get. Its Fel-Pro 3157, they have it in the back. Its grey in color. 10" x 26" roll. Its like a rubberized paper-like gasket... it seems to be perfect for the BOV. I have not installed it yet, but imagine it will work fine.
