Hate the Amber in Taillights? Here is an easy fix!

I hate the amber blinker lights so I've taken a route that many GTO guys took, including myself. There is a website known as www.autolumination.com which provides all sorts of lighting. They offer bulbs that have the appearance of chrome, but when they blink, can blink amber and a couple of other colors that are available. Choosing the right bulbs may be somewhat tough, but to help you out, go to the sylvania website which lists every bulb in a vehicle. Install is as easy as open the plastic back door to get to the tail lights, twist off the housing and bulb is out. Below are some direct links and some before/after shots.

Also, I tried doing the same to the front signal lights, but because of the existing orange reflector, it didn't do much. Not worth it IMO.

Nice post!!! Thanks for the pics! Know what would make it even better? A link to the actual bulbs. Not being a smartass, it is just a little unclear what is what.

Is it these? 7440ST Silverstar Signal Lighting: Complete the Look: Crisp, Clean, Style

yes, bulb type per Sylvania is;

Rear turn signal

992 (7440A)

If you cross reference that to the Autolumination website, click where it says 7440 in red and find the 7440 Single Filament option

I also got me some LED bulbs for the license plate light up in the same order. I believe they were only 8 bucks each.

So how bright are they? I mean, are there any visibility loss during the daytime/nighttime?

Is it this one?

I haven't noticed any visibility loss but if I do, I will certainly post up. I did this to my GTO a while back and have had no problems.

Yup, that is the bulb that I used, but again, use the Silvania website to cross reference so you pick the exact bulb for you're car. I can only speak for my car, a 2008 Legacy GT and the 7440 single filament bulb is what worked.

Autolimination sells theirs for $29 each, and the VLeds are $50 a pair (or $25 each).

And the VLEDS are brighter too.

Well, you get what you pay for...$7 a pair for chrome lights, or like LEDs and want them brighter with a high ramp up rate.

Still cheaper than a set of LED tail lights that no one makes! HAHAHA....

Thank you Big Pimpin (nick)!!! I'm gonna' get me sum of these!

Nice find, I purchased it already!

I like how the LED lights up, but having a clear lens for the turn signal makes me want to get the Regular Filament ones.

I do have the LED's for the Stop Light and that works well.

Thanks for the quick tip, I totally forgot that company's made chrome bulbs for the longest time until I saw this. Time for me to order some to clean the rear end up.

Can you post a link to what LED's you have for the stop lights? Also are they brighter then stock.

Yea, the one is from Liberal in Japan.

I actually went to their store and purchased it.

However, I am sure that most LED lights that's out there is pretty much the same thing.

I am sure that DrSpeed's link looks almost the exact thing as the one I have.

However, that one is single filament fitment and mine is dual filament fitment.

Brightness, at nighttime, it's great.

Personally, during the day time, it's about the same, and night time, it looks maybe 10% brighter.

Don't expect it to be something amazing!! LOL

I just like the ON/OFF of the LED's as to a filament bulbs kinda fade away if you know what I mean.

Either way, here is the link.

i got a similar bulb but i do not like the color amber. its very dim and darker than the other amber lights on the car. looks great in the tail light housing though, identical to your look.

This is the one I got but I do not recommend it. Do you know how many watts the Auto Illumination bulb is? I see they make a chrome dome that is 40% brighter... do you think your chrome bulb is to dark/dimm?

The Phillips SilverVision 7440 (WY21W) fitment is very popular with the SH-chassis Forester crowd as an incandescent alternative.

I've got them on my wife's '09 FXT, and they're nice. The unlit assembly is much more homogeneously "silver" than the front turn signals on my '05 LGT, which uses the Sylvania SilverStar alternative (giving a "rainbow" appearance when unlit, many times), and seems to be just as bright - if not brighter than - the OEM amber.

Just got my bulbs in the mail today and promptly installed them. They are a tad dimmer from the stock bulbs but still bright enough to be seen. Which is no big deal to me, I perfer the cleaner look they provide anyway.

Now I'm only down to the front turn signal and brake bulbs are factory still. Every thing else has been replaced by Led's or upgraded bulbs.

The single filament bulbs. I'll take photos of them lit compared to stock tomorrow.

I'm just waiting to get pulled over for these bulbs as I got pulled over for my plate bulbs one day :)
