Scooby2.5
Will the steering rack from a 2007 Spec b fit in a 2005 legacy GT/outback XT sedan or wagon? Its 2.6 turns like the STI according to cars101.com which is better than the outback at 3.2 and the GT at 2.
Beanboy
Same exact rack at GT. If there is a different in lock-to-lock, it is suspension/wheel size dictating larger turning radius as listed, meaning the wheels can't physically turn as much, not a difference in the rack itself. -B http://www.standardshift.com
Scooby2.5
So the 2.6 on the spec b and the 2.6 on the sti VS the 2.8 on the GT is not the steering gear? I guess it's just the outback that has the different gear at 3.2?

It's not exact same. I checked part #s and the part numbers for SpecB, incl. the 06 SpecB is different, and unique to all SpecBs. It indeed has to do with the larger wheels, it seems. The ratio is the same so it appears, the steering range is limited. SpecB per car101.com has larger turning radius: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/legacy/legacy2009.html
Scooby2.5
Hey unclemat, the outback has a really short turning radius, would I be better off trying to find a legacy GT rack to get the quicker steering? what about an STI rack? when I looked at cars101 it showed the rack on teh spec B (2007) and the sti as 2.6 turns and the LGT as 2.8, the outback was 3.2 Thanks in advance

Scooby2.5
Looks like the spec B is the same as the sti and the GT is inbetween the sti and the outback. Turning circle of the car: 35.4ft Turns, lock-to-lock 3.
PGT
you're forgetting camber....it has everything to do with turning circle.

I don't think any (sensibly) lowered non-SpecB LGT guys with larger wheels have any rubbing issues. Besides noone sane installs huge (overall - before someone says, they are 18" ) diameter wheels such as stock SpecB wheels. Just get regular Legacy rack, which should be pletiful in junkyards. scoobydoobie
So the STI and LGT do not have the same steering rack?

Could you give us some part number comparisons unclemat?

Th3Franz
People have swapped the new 15+ STI rack into an OBXT/LGT. Even quicker ratio. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
Scooby2.5
As Thefranz said i would go with the 2015. With that said yes the spec b rack would bolt right in......
swaginwagin
But I guess people had issues with the u joint shaft? Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Underdog
The Outback has spacers that drop the front subframe by roughly an inch, which means you need to use the OBXT u-joint. You can use the Perrin lockdown kit or cut and weld in a rod to eliminate the damper section. The Crimson Dynamo
WRX USA
I have a SpecB steering rack on my OBXT. I had it swapped at the same time I had the 6MT drivetrain swapped from a SpecB. The SpecB was a total and only had 65K and it didn't cost me anything extra for the parts and the labor, which is why I chose this over a 15+ STi swap. It did make a noticeable difference over the Outback rack. I also have the Perrin steering dampener lockdown.
