Camaro, Mustang, Challenger comparo.

Recommended Posts

unfortunately, only 1 of the 3 vehicles in this comparison are not govt or fiat owned now.. so the mustang is now the defacto winner regardless of its relative performance. :(

Buy any of the cars used or from a private party and there you go.

Holy waste of money batman, was just curious to see how much the hpf turbo kits are.... 16k? Are you kidding me.

Yes because they do all the work, have a warrenty and its all setup for you to just drive, its tuned, logged and they are a well known company looking for people with money. Ever see lingenfelters packages for vette, the most expensive one isnt on there site but its 250k for a badass c6, oh and you have to pay for the vette too.

And the price rapidly goes up from there. But, any hardcore speed parts for European sports cars (M cars, Porsche, S-class Audi, AMG) all carry huge price tags. Check these prices:

http://www.renntechmercedes.com/

4500 for a reflash and a crank pulley on a 211 E55. 8300 for headers and a reflash on a 211 E63.

Where on the website does it say that they will install it? its 16k for the package but that does not include any of what you said. Click add to cart... only thing it asks is what shipping method you want...

What your talking about is dinan. That is different.

So basically you are still paying the government second hand with Joe Carbuyer getting his hands on your car and your money, for your trouble...

The Challenger and Camaro are both NEW cars whose arrival on the dealer lots post-date government bail-out money., there isn't much used market supply for them yet. Even if you could find one, you are probably going to just be re-imbursing someone else who paid the government, and then probably a bit more for their pocket.

Sorry... shell games are not real, and the government already takes too much of my hard earned buying power for me to give them more of it willingly, while tacitly supporting their socialist machinations.

No GMs. No Chryslers. I will consider Ford, if they offer something worth considering... but so far that is pretty darn nil. Maybe if there were a fully modern Mercury alternative to Mustang... But Mustang itself is bulky looking, and not everyone wants a live axle car, even if some still do... (and please, let's just leave it at that.)

With Mazda going 'native' with mostly FWD, and Subaru sinking back into the ugliness tar-pits, after the BL Legacy was an exceptionally good looking car...

BMWs being over-priced, over-wrought, and less aesthetically attractive as of late, and expensive to maintain out of warranty...

Porsches being similarly expensive to own, but at least boxer powered, and their sports cars being attractive... Maybe a used one of those...

I am not seeing a whole lot to look forward to on the new car lots in the near future.

Y'all are bunch of whiney little girls. Who cares if the government or the Chinese own the company? Seriously? What difference does it make? It's still the same damn car. If it does the job it's made to do then it really doesn't matter where it comes from, or where the money goes once it's paid for.

ever heard the term "vote with your wallet" jacks?

I'm an avid supporter of not buying from comapnies whose policies donations or ownership is not where I want it to be.

if more people practiced this we might actually have some control over our society.

I would however feel better about buying 2nd hand from someone.. I mean, the guy bought the car one way or the other, so its no skin off GM's nose if I do or dont buy the used one.

challenger was pre govt takeover btw. :D or at least a few were.

I think the challenger looks better, but I'd side with the new camaro all other points aside.. I'm a GM guy when it comes to domestics.. nowadays..ford has to be my defacto supported domestic brand however.

Challenger may have been pre-bankruptcy... but Chrysler got government money, with GM, back in December/January... was Challenger out before then? Maybe so, but not a lot of them.

And, fully agreed. It is absolutely a matter of principle. Jack's form of acceptance looks good on the surface, but in actuality, it is full-fledged enabling, and it allows and encourages more of that socialistic behavior which I absolutely do not accept. And so I won't accept the products of that behavior.

I don't buy alcohol for alcoholics. I don't buy products from and for socialists who are already seizing my money for taxes.

I wonder how much lighter a Eco-boost V6 Mustang would be than the current 3580 lb (V8) 2010 Mustang GT Premium w/ Track Pack. 200-250 lbs lighter?

My guess:

2010 Mustang GT Premium w/ Track Pack

V8 w/ 5sp Manual

3580 lbs

315 hp

325 lb ft torque

2011 Mustang V6 EcoBoost w/ Track Pack

Twin-turbo V6 w/ 5 or 6 sp manual

~ 3,350 lbs

365 hp

350 lb ft of torque

All I can say is, that would be an epic win, especially since the Mustang GT is being hailed for awesome handling already. Picture it with even better weight distribution, less weight, and significantly less nose heavy.

Aiight so you guys let your morals limit what you purchase. I don't like the french but they sure do make good yachts...I just bought one, A big one....if I let my morals and beliefs get in the way of that I probably wouldn't be heading off round the world in the next few months. Once the money has left my pocket, and I have what I want, what does it matter where it goes? And honestly, how much difference do you think $30,000 is going to make to the US Govt.? Why not enjoy the things you love?

gwim ()

agreed. the new v6s in the "muscle" cars have really stepped it up. They're no longer something to laugh at when you see a 40 year old blonde woman driving a base model convertible down the road.

iwss, well said.

jack.. lets say a columbian drug lord also makes some damn good coffee bean blends.. you're telling me that you wouldn't care? what if that drug lord used that money to wage a drug war in your home town and they're in the streets outside your home in a shootout with the cops?

I know thats a theoretical stretch.. but its an exmaple of how money for goods can go "bads."

Well, there are a lot of whispering coming out of Ford that the 4.6L V8 will be replaced with either a 5.4L or 6.0/6.2L V8, which will make 425-450 hp.

It would be about time for that, the 4.6 has always been a joke N/A. I just hope ford can get the mpgs down, the 4.6 has always gotten worse gas mileage then the lsx engine and if they bump it to a 5.4liter with a bigger fuel system it would be interesting to see what gas mileage it gets.

is the 4.6 at least aluminum?

shaving weight is really going to be the way they make these cars pass future emissions.. and maybe offer a 4cyl base model or some crap.. :spin:

Pretty much pre-confirmed.

5.0 liter Coyote V8 for next year, and a bump to nearly 400hp.

maybe you put the ? in there cos you weren't suer you needed to be excused. (I thought about saying "you're excused" :p)

anywhey..

so.. I'm not clear on this, does the new mustang still have a solid rear axle? I thought that was kind of.. obsolete of them in 05 to be still making the previous model with a solid rear axle..
