talk me out of buying a Lotus Exige

Recommended Posts

I owned an '05 Elise right as they came out. It was fun as hell, but after 6 months of ownership and 2 months of being in the shop for various issues, I sold it back to the dealership for close to what I bought it for. I'm sure the newer years worked out the build quality problems I had.

For the price used ones are going for it would be a fun weekend car, but I would never own one as a daily.

It's a Toyota motor, what could go wrong?

Krypton Green FTW! :eek::eek:

I tell myself that an N/A Forester is just an STI without all the fluff like, power, handling, style, racing heritage, and curb appeal.

I'll look at the Cayman S also

You mean the Cockster, right? It has two hoods and although it's better than the poor man's Porsche AKA the Boxter, it's not a real Porsche. Barf.

If you're looking for fun get on 03/04 Cobra with a pully and exhaust. 550 HP FTW!!! You mash the gas in any gear and it'll wag it's tail like a puppy who hasn't seen you or been fed in 6 weeks.

If you want to go with a small engine a do-it-yourself car, i.e. the ATOM is the way to do.

I see your colors and raise:

Because a British car with racing ambitions has to run the right colors - British Racing Green!

The yellow stripe goes well with the car being a Lotus!

not a real porsche?

have you ever driven one?

Yea. It's a solid performer, don't get me wrong... but if you're going to lay out a pile of cash for a Porsche... there's only one model to get. Doesn't matter if its the 1972 Carrera RS or the '09 911 Turbo.

my buddy just traded his orange Exige on a 911 GT3 RS today. A shame I didn't get to drive the Exige when he offered, but I'll make up for it on the RS.

heights called it rice though. he might be right.

Power for the Lotus Elise comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Toyota-sourced engine benefits from Lotus-designed intake and exhaust components and a tweaked engine controller. The result is a broader power band and an increase in output to 189 hp at 7,800 rpm and 133 pound-feet of torque at 6,800 rpm.

Don't get frustrated by those numbers, those cars are FUN to drive... The closest to a street legal Go KART experience ;););)

Well, those are only the figures for the base Lotus Elise (which if buying a new car, doesn't really exist anymore).

Supercharged Elise (and the 07 Exige S) come in at 220 horsepower, the 08 Exige is 240, and the 09 is 260. 220-260 horsepower and 2000ish lbs is a decent power to weight ratio.
