NSFW
And the last big puzzle, how to mate the turbo's 2" old-WRX-style compressor outlet with the charge pipe on the AVO FMIC? http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2294173&postcount=8 http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r286/brockboomer/icpic.jpg Awesome. NSFW
I just ordered a crapload of little silicone and aluminum bits, plus clamps, from RacePartSolutions.com and SiliconeIntakes.com.
Tracer-X
I like how it's all routed but on cars in our price range I'd expect to see couplers that are the same color. I think that it could also use a Subtle Solutions alternator cover. Jump on it, Let's do it, Ride it, My Pony... EL4NFZT7
NSFW
a) that's not my car, that's just my inspiration b) I'm gonna use red couplers, but Perrin's turbo inlet might not be the same red. c) stay tuned for pic of my trimmed engine cover I might not be able to fit my engine cover with spacers under the TGVs, and if I can't, the Subtle cover is pretty high on my list. Carbign (I think that's how they spell it) also makes a nice carbon-fibery one though, it might be a tough choice.
NSFW
Speaking of TGV spacers and turbo inlets, I just ordered those, and gaskets, from Import Image. Turbo and 3" MAF housing are coming from Covert Performance.

LGTBee
Well I read that document and I am starting to grasp this stuff slowly. Its alot of numbers swirling around in my head but I at least can comprehend what he is trying to get across. I would like to pick your brain sometime and have you break it down for me - Oh. LGTBee
Classic - "Raise yo GOT DAMN Kids" Yeah, I have a good grasp on the basics I think but I am trying to wrap my head around the knock process. I took some data logs from my car the other day and a little bit today and I see some Knock learning - So I am trying to get that into my head. The AP does not log FBKC, but under certain conditions it does report -1.75 or -2.8 Knock Learning... What you doin this weekend?
NSFW
I'm on call this weekend, so I can't make plans. But if you come to the Top Foods meet we can BS about this stuff all day long. Speaking of which... Tracer, do you wanna install our air/oil separators at Top Foods? I've been putting that off for way too long, and it'll be more fun than standing around. I'll bring a socket set and a bunch of screwdrivers, what else are we going to need? I'll do the bracket at home, it's the plumbing that's going to take time and brainpower. NSFW
I don't know if it's a "huge" issue or not but there have been a handful of reports at Nasioc about busted oil pickups. I think there's a thread about it here, too. There are a couple others in the $125-$150 range IIRC, I just like the design of that one.
NSFW
http://www.siliconeintakes.com delivers, and fast. Today I received a box containing t-bolt clamps, a big air filter, and a 45 degree elbow that's 2.75" one end (for the stock turbo inlet) and 3" opening on the other end (for the MAF housing that oughtta be here next week). I'm going to replace my AEM CAI with a homebrew CAI, and tune for the new MAF housing, and then attach it (via regular 3" 45-degree elbow) to the new 3" inlet when the turbo goes in. LGTBee
The oil pickup is interesting; have people had trouble getting warranty repair on that? That seems like a pretty clear new motor if it failed during the warranty period on the car. I am interested to chat in person about your CAI concept. I THINK I am following so far but I am not sure
NSFW
No problem. Given the ETA for the next box of parts I'll probably bring it all to Top Foods and built a CAI in the parking lot.

NSFW
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z151/Legacy_NSFW/Intake/IntakeParts1.jpg There's some of the first batch of intake parts. I haven't yet decided whether I'm going to use 45 degree silicone bends or a 90 degree silicone bend, or a 90 degree aluminum bend, to get the air filter located in the right place under the fender. Mocking stuff up under the hood tonight I realize I'm going to need a couple more pieces regardless. Still no ETA on the turbo though, so this probably won't actually delay the big day. The black elbow is 2.75" on the right side, to mate up to the stock inlet, so I can tune for the 3" MAF before I do the turbo install. Getting the big honkin' air filter into the right place in the fender is going to be a big enough PITA that I'm probably just going to make a short-ram / hot air intake for now, putting the filter where the stock airbox used to sit. I'll make a proper CAI after I get the 3" inlet installed, so I only have to do that once.
trademark
I'm very interested in what you cost is for the final setup.. vs an AEM setup..
NSFW
You can price out the pieces at www.siliconeintakes.com and/or www.racepartsolutions.com. I've been getting hardware from SI and silicone from RPS. (SI has metal "joiners" that RPS doesn't carry, and slightly better prices on t-bolts.) To clone the AEM...: 2.75" silicone "hump hose" coupler (will mate to the stock turbo inlet) 2.75" aluminum tube (you only need about 6 inches, maybe less) 2.75" 45 degree silicone elbow 2.75" aluminum tube (get three feet total, you'll have extra left over) 2.75" 45 degree silicone elbow 2.75" MAF housing * 2.75" Air filter ** 6x 2.75" t-bolt clamps *** * My MAF housing was $55 from Covert Performance and it's 3". I'm guessing you could get a 2.75" unit for about the same price. ** I'm using a 3" filter, and I'm not sure where you can find a 2.75" unit. Consider a 2.75"-to-3" silicone adaptor, plus a 3" joiner. Or an aluminum adaptor plus a silicone coupler. *** T-bolts aren't really necessary upstream of the turbo, they just look cooler. Hose clamps will work fine and cost less. **** That's all off the top of my head. I'm actually not certain about the first couple parts but I can take a closer look this weekend. AEM puts the MAF sensor in the tube between the 45 degree elbows, but I suspect it's better to put it next to the air filter, to avoid resonance. I will be testing that theory when the new turbo goes in...
trademark
are you worried about water getting on the MAF being so close to the filter...?
NSFW
If that becomes an issue I guess I'll add a shield around the air filter. Or switch to blow-though, which puts the MAF on the driver's side charge pipe... I kinda want to try that anyway, but not until everything else is sorted out. I'm still waiting on a couple of Y-adapters for fuel lines, but I should have the turbo in my hands tomorrow night.
NSFW
The turbo is here. It has numbers on it, so it's time to geek out... The CHRA part number is 700177-5007, which might be the same as 700177-7 if you believe this post. Also, from http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Garrett-Gt30r-Thread-L-t142989.html&st=40&start=40# Real GT3076R spec (complete turbocharger number is 700382-12) Turbine : GT30 84 trim (60.1mm inducer diametre by 55mm exducer) . Compressor : 76.2mm 56 trim . Cartridge number : 700177-5007ATP installs a TO4S compressor cover. 3" inlet and 2" outlet. Apparently Garrett had GT3076s with this compressor cover in their catalog at some point. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5430352&postcount=109 If I ever want to put the current GT3076R compressor housing on it, that option does exist: http://www.aptuning.net/Compressor_housing_for_GT3076R_700382_5012_or_CHR_p/atp-hsg-050.htm http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=ATP-HSG-050&Category_Code=CHRA Not sure how I'd ever fit that 4" inlet under the intake manifold, though... Some Dominator 3s are built on the same CHRA. But not all? Weird. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22880934&postcount=15 The polishing of the compressor cover seems to have obscured some part numbers. It says "6296 15" across the top, but Google doesn't turn up anything interesting. Working backward from the compressor outlet, there are two blurred-out characters, "GARRETT", BO, what might be the top of a 5, 101 (small font, stamped in), 08, and 1D12 (small font, stamped in).
