now im bringing this thread back from the dead, but for the people that have this setup in their Legacies, how bad was their sag on their car's rear end? and was it worse if they installed lowering springs. thanks. apologies once again for resurrecting this thread!

Thats a good question and yes, it adds some sag. I weighed the stereo clarity enclosure, you can check out the weight in my weight reduction thread. I'm considering doing a muffler delete and CF trunk to offset the weight of the sub + box. IMO, its not too big of a deal. Don't have any pics, either, sorry.

Is it Safe to mount the amp on say a 45 degree angle? I was thinking of making a small box to mount the amp on to place flush against the back seat with my dual sub box up against it. I dont wanna put it under the spare tire thing or on the back seat.

So I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead cause I plan on doing this in next week or so. I'll check out home depot and lowes tomorrow for materials and mainly for a good material for the column. I did a accurate calculation for my planned box and it will actually have only .6cu ft... this kinda sucks.

this is with an outer dimension of 20x20x3.75 and (pi*5.5^2)*3.75 (this accounts for .75" MDF)...

0.6 cu.ft....?! That's no bueno... I want the space on the sides and don't want to taper corners (i.e make it that much more complicated) and nor do I want to have fitment issues. I'll keep the specs at the tried and trued method and will report back later!

Also, what do you guys think about using the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket? Sounds ghetto and I think it would crack and/or resonate inaccurately but just a thought.

I just made some measurements and idk why anyone else hasn't tried this but the inside of my 2008 3.0R's spare tire, being a 17" wheel, has a inner diameter of a little over 15". Using pythagreaon's theorem, I learned that the secant would than be 10.5" making a perfect square within the spare. (Rhyming on the fly...lol) anyways, to be on the safe side I'll make the subwoofer extension section of the box within the spare to have a side measuring 10"x 10"x4"

The picture of the box without the carpeting doesn't show it, but I added a sheet of 3/4" MDF on top with a hole about an inch larger in diameter to offset and sink the subwoofer to prevent damage from the trunk floor. The Box making took a lot of measurements but its solid as hell! Plus the square subwoofer extension is much sturdier than the circular plastic PVC.

Quick update:

I'm not impressed with the sound output as opposed to my old sealed sub box. :( So I'm going to hit up Lowes or HD and pic up some steel mesh, screw it into the box to cover the sub and then cut a hole in the floor mat of the trunk. That should allow the sub breath freely through the mat while maintaing protection. Then, I plan to vent the rear deck. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/diy-rear-deck-vent-removing-back-seat-and-deck-and-62893.html?t=62893&highlight=deck+vent as CSTMIZR's write up...one weekend. Don't have much time right now.

Venting the rear deck made a huge difference for me. Even before I vented it, I would keep the pass through open when driving without passengers. Sounds much better IMO.
