SlightlyEvil
Searched every STS thread for a pic relating to this or hint but couldn't find one. This is a simple question, once it's unscrewed completely from the shift lever, the knob is still attached to the boot and I can't figure out how to separate them. I don't want to just ream on them and rip the boot, is there a simple trick or somethin? It feels like the bottom of the knob is stuck into a thick rubber cylinder which is stitched inside the boot...

SlightlyEvil
seems to need a LOT of force though on mine, just want to make sure i wont destroy that rubber bit inside - is it just held in by a lip or something on the bottom end of the knob piece? rao
There is a lip molded into the bottom of the shift knob. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
NewLegGT67
You have to carefully slide something in between the boot and the leather handle in order to pull the lip under the handle from the leather boot. I'm probably the only person that has Wu-Tang Clan and Paul McCartney on their mp3.
Underdog
^ I think you're talking about the e-brake boot, which is held on by 5 clips total that need to be disengaged to remove. The shift knob is a tight fit but if you hold the top of the boot firmly and (forgive the phrase) cock the knob at an angle it will pop out.
