Canon20D
Its really simple. Ill try to get some shots tonight, but its just a roofing vent with a 90* bend and 1.5 ft of straight pipe
Mr. Ed
this shouldn't be too much of a concern, and if it is take your sche 40 pvc design and make it schedule 80 (gray pvc) it has a much higher temp rating) the tru concern with pvc is not it melting but the deadly fumes it puts off when it is heated. best thing that I have seen done on a rig like this was to heat wrap it interested, +1 4 pics. careful with pvc, Canon, if that was the plumbing pipe you mentioned; underhood temps may melt/warp it, especially if it's clamped/under load. Canon20D
I have to add a "leaf filter" to the opening, to keep out large debris and keep the tube connected (the long tube fell off on friday, luckly it just fell on the ground as the pipe is to long to be able to slide out due to the angle it would need. Also thinking of adding a 90* bend to the bottom and making a "ram air" intake. ill take pics tonight!
dease42
+1 for the ghetto mods Can't wait to see pics...
Infamous1
All the recent inventions have drove me to create my own ghetto heatsheild/box. Consist of a cardboard toplate heavy wrapped in aluminum foil, and mounted to the upper section of my K & N heatsheild using aluminum tape. It is very Ghettolicious! Canon20D
Just updated my intake with a true "ram air" port and added a inline filter to the pipe to avoid sucking up leaves and crap http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake1.jpg http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake2.jpg http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake3.jpg http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake4.jpg http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake5.jpg http://www.imagingphototech.com/car/intake6.jpg
BigBad
Very creative. How well is it working for you? When you say added an inline filter what exactly did you use for that or is it just a screen on the end?
Canon20D
Its just a circle cut from a thick gutter guard material The bottom part isnt totally painted because i painted it with an extention on it when I was going to use that at the top, ill re-paint the white part soon I took it for a mini test tonight, and it didnt seem all that good - but I expect the most gains from the "ram air" at speed (20-50+ mph) But with just the vertical pipe to the atmosphere, MAN it spools early and i gained 1-2 lbs of boost (used to hit around 15 on my gauge which is about 2 psi low, this time I saw it around 16.5-17) =D
Infamous1
Speed bumps are not your friend! That is very interesting...your ghetto modness surpasses mine, by far! I don't know if you though about it, but you could of done the same thing while keeping the entire box and dropping the silencer. You could of ran your pipe and kept the snorkus. Canon20D
Well I had first thought I wanted more Air = more power but then i rationalized it as Better air > more air = better power Either way, ive hit more G's with this (actully saw 0.68, above the normal 0.61) AND it spools sooner and better (I can hit 10lbs of boost in 3rd @ 2200RPM) I dont know how the cold air is really making much more boost, but its a noticable improvement.. at least in NJ where the air temps are now below 50 most of the time im driving! TRS
Kind of like what I did a year ago. Originally had it feeding up through the resonator and into the airbox. Now have an AEM CAI so just have to scoop discharging next to the cone filter sitting at the bottom of inner fender in front of the wheel well. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b380/TRS60586/Misc%20Legacy/CAI-08.jpg Related posts: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=627122&postcount=1 http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=627240&postcount=4 http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=627272&postcount=5 http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1146006&postcount=13 http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1146082&postcount=
what
wow.. all this ghettoness is making me laugh. But, it would work. I have done a few different mods with this over the last year and a half, but now I just have the bottom of my airbox cut out, and I took my lower light assembly out.. Doesnt cost anything. The cold air comes in through the lower driving light assembly (which isnt there) and in through the bottom of my airbox.
