jamiesong
how do the winter performance compare with plain winter? I realize there's an emphasis on dry traction...but what about the real winter stuff?
NYtoVT
I'm not sure since I've only had one winter tire, for one season on the LGT. maybe read the TireRack.com and/ or Discount Tire Direct.com reviews and judge for yourself... or call them and ask a tire tech/ specialist. from what I hear, if you drive more than 50% in dry and/ or mostly plowed roads during winter, a "real" winter tire or studded tire isn't necessary. personally, I usually go with the cheapest, then adapt (as w/ my previous cars). most of us have the sense to drive accordingly, especially if we have driven in the snow with A/S before. groff
dry cornering on sandy roads, not fun. snowy cornering on unplowed road, fun. (note: only if sideways in a drift, not sideways into a ditch) there is much less ability to corner on dry roads for real with winter tires than all seasons, but i swear sometimes it was like my car had tank tracks on it because it could go anywhere. for the difference between the two winter versions, you can't go as fast with regular winters, and they don't perform as well dry as the performance ones do. really you want a performance winter tire with a turbo vehicle i'd say. i love the blizzacks that i got
NYtoVT
I was thinking of going with the Hankook Winter Pike W409. but also thought of going with a tire that Tire Rack sells (even if I don't buy from them) so I can have one bought, shaved and shipped if I ever needed to. jamiesong
I've had the dunlops on my prelude and they definitely weren't that bad, got stuck once because I got caught in a little uneven terrain with no LSD and couldn't pull myself out. Before that I had Hakk's on my civic that was lowered (made the car a sled as I was sliding all over the place). So really, I'm open to any of these. Just let me know what everyone else wants and I'll chip in my part.

NYtoVT
ok, the deals that have been listed are the best I've been offered. the last place's prices, I spoke to on Saturday, are $6 more than offers # 2-8. so, as a group we can either all go for #1. or as a group, we can individually choose any of # 2-8. here's a recap, all prices are shipped (pg.7, 100-103) http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1391584&postcount=100 http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1392868&postcount=101 http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1392896&postcount=103 I'm more interested in dealing w/ local company offering # 2-8; We don't have to have the money now, but I can place the orders by the 28th... and they will be here in 2 weeks for pick-up, mounting and balancing (m+b extra, of course) at a local "higher end" car dealer. The parts manager is also an '06 Legacy 2.5i sedan owner. I may even be able to get a deal on mounting and balancing. Note: these prices are better than TireRack AND we are not paying shipping. But as a group, let me know what everyone's opinions, requests, needs, questions are. Thanks guys.
jamiesong
I'm definitely happier dealing locally... Easier access/recourse if something isn't quite right (tire out of round, etc). I've heard so much good about blizzaks (offer #2 for the ws-50), sign me up for those, and I'll definitely be in for the M&B. The last few times I did a M&B were from the tire shop in front of k-mart (and were not so hot upon reflection - shake @ highway speeds).

NYtoVT
What company is this? Do I go there for a mounting discount? Do I pay you or pay this company? I'm confused Good question, as I was waiting for someone to ask. I'll let you know when the tires arrive. Then we all can pick them up as we wish; as a group or individually... at Lewis Motors Acura, (not at Audi bld.) 1301 Shelburne Rd. after McDonalds, same side of road. You will pay the company as you pick them up. ask for Rob. I'm currently working on a discount for mounting and balancing ($20/ car?). That is if any of you can make it there on a Wednesday between 5pm-6pm to have them M&B. this is not definate yet... if not, you can still get the M&B there at regular price. not sure what that is. but let me know now who can make it on a Wed. and I'll see what I can do for discount... then make an appointment after tires arrive or when you're ready for pick up.
