Beanboy
Here's the specific engine thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81542 First off, the suspension and steering. JDM RevA SpecB wagon struts/springs with poly LCA bushings replaced stock bits. Stock, I was tired of the dive and squat even at Stage2 power levels. Was also not happy with the floaty feel/failure of stock suspension to handle small sharp bumps. Also wished I had a little more feel while entering turns. Wanted to keep as close as possible to OEM longevity and ride height. Although some have mentioned the RevAs are too stiff, don't find that to be the case...yet. Driving on the worst local roads in Boston which I think are pretty bad, the car seems better over the broken pavement. Ride is stiff, but there is no jarring hit as small sharp bumps seem to bypass stock suspension. Turn-in is improved, found myself using a little too much steering input at first. Ride height is lowered a touch, but it isn't noticable. Will get some photos later, but so far I am pleased with my suspension choice. Shifter bushings/group N mount As notchy as before, but much less play, making it easier overall to shift. I haven't felt a huge increase in NVH with the group N mount, but I've been paying attention to the other new noises. Power There's more in the other thread, but I wanted a quiet daily driver that didn't have every Audi trying to race me from a light. Everything went on the car smoothly, minus the modification to the AVO FMIC to fit the wrx-style turbo (clocking turbo would have been more work). Replaced provided clamps with higher quality ones as well. Also t-fitting and vac hose from Prosport gauges were replaced with higher quality/larger versions. Bumper beam and fogs are back on car. The setup delivers, very tame around town but hits hard when I want it to. I'll be posting more up a bit later, time to go driving! -B http://www.standardshift.com
Beanboy
6+ months and 4K+ miles later, all is good in all mods at once land. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l177/ean611/DSCN0656.jpg Problems so far: I broke a front strut mount bolt. Prosport oil sender is reading 5V/145psi at all times, even with engine cold and off, will replace next oil change. Need to get a helper spring for clutch arm, getting some sqeaking while stopped sometimes. Other than the above minor issues the car has been been great. Can get 25 mpg on the highway, mid teens in the city. Combination aggressive city driving and highway miles with kayak on roof gets me a tank average of around 20-22. Still love driving with the radio off to listen to the intake and turbo spool. Having a quiet as stock exhaust is fantastic coming home late at night, accelerating aggressively without being noticed or just being able to disappear into a mass of Outbacks that are all around here in NE. Suspension still is a great balance of increased performance without decreased comfort or ground clearance, been off roading on beaches and down fire roads and haven't come across a clearance issue yet. -B http://www.standardshift.com

Beanboy
Wasn't too bad, spread out parts order. Spent enough to get a free set of tires thanks to Subaru Bucks, and the selling of older parts (currently) also helped to take the edge off. -B http://www.standardshift.com

Beanboy
thanks! For creating this thread? Being me? Driving a wagon? Anyway, 6K miles or so on build, finally replaced oil sender unit and will be returning to ProSport for refund ($30.00 or whatever it is). Oil pressure gauge is working correctly again. Still haven't bothered with a helper spring yet, so slight squeaking with clutch out at stoplights. Oh, noticed some noise from front LCAs in wet conditions. Getting the AVO BOV rebuilt by AVO so I can slap that back on the car at somepoint, or have it at the ready when the stocker finally starts failing, which I think may happen come the cold weather. With the new tougher inspection laws in MA, glad that I held off with a CBE so far. Having the stock mufflers sticking out the back and having it near stock noise level will make things much easier come inspection time. -B http://www.standardshift.com

itsme
I have a '05 lgt 5mt wagon also but, for me the suspension left alot to be desire. I'll list what I did and what if, any improvment I felt. 1. added 19x7.5 w/ 225/35/19. They were a big improvement in grip. To me the stock tires never felt right. In turns they would seem to want to break loose. 2. Whiteline F&R adj. sways bars. They really got the body roll under control and didn't hurt the ride. I could take curves much fast. 3. H-tech springs. near stock ride not too low and fixed the squat and dive problems of the car. Before the spring I thought the brakes on the LGt awful and was going to upgrade. But I found that with body now under control the brake feel much better and I didn't need to upgrade. After about maybe 8 months my struts started to go bad and the rear started to sag. So I got KW v.2 coil-overs and they have been great. Most people say it feels like "BMW" firm. Race comp has their verion of the KW for about $400 cheaper and they claim better valving. 4.F&R upper strut brace. Useless. Only reason I still have the front on is I didn't feel like taking it off and I have the tube from my boost gauge connected to it. 5. Cusco F&R lower control arm braces. They really firmed up the car and made it feel stiffer on big bumps and the road. It also got rid of some squechs in my wagon. 6 Superpro poly LCA bushing. It firmed up the wheel and took out all of the wandering on the highway and in turn. Alot less correcting of the wheel. 7.AVO RSB brace. Just as a in case. After I got my suspension together I went for more power. 8. I got a K&N typhoon intake. It added abit of power and I like the sound. 9.AP v.1 TDC stage 1. A nice boost in power made the power smoother and I gained about 1-2 mpg. 10. TDC stage 2 e-tune. PDE up, crucail shorty DP, and custom TBE 3" exhaust. They car is really great now. Pulls strong and got me about another 2mpg. It pulls stronger off boost and in stop and go LA traffic I get from 21- 24 mpg. It's a win, win:lol:. Alot of people talk about the stock IC tanks coming apart so I started to build a FMIC to sovle this problem. I may also get a gt 30 turbo but, I know this may sound weird. I don't know if I need that much power and where am I going to use it? I hope I added some helpful info after all the stuff before. If you want me to post pictures of any of this stuff or got any questions let me know. here's a update. I finished the FMIC and sold the prototype to XO2 racing. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/170752.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/113531.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/095111.jpg I made it so you can use it with a LGT or Sti style turbo. Here is a picture of the flange I made to fit the LGT turbo http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/190930.jpg Here is the thread on the kit. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100630&highlight=fmic Don't worry about the bend I got rid of my AP and I use opensource tunning and infamous1 tuned my car and got 277whp on 91 cali pump gas and hit 18.5 psi by @2800 rpms. Without pulling any timing. Next I got: 830 modd injectors TGV deletes Fuel pump APS hard inlet 20g 2.4 inlet 7cm hotside turbo Syncronic EWG http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/153428.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/153356.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/153603.jpg Infamous1 also e-tuned my 20G and made 340whp on cali 91 pump gas and I don't pull more then 2 deg. of timing if I do pull timing at all. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/05_LGT_Wagon_FP_20g_EWG1.jpg I hit @20psi at @3300-3400rpms and hold it tell 7000rpms. The power is great and I'm sure I'm done with my mods. I get in the high 20's doing 75mph http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/124755.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/124714.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/124838.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u156/itsmebryan/124657.jpg Any Question let me know. Beanboy
Great thread- Do you have any updates? Been just about a year. As far as issues: 2 passenger headlights. I know, the norm for LGTs! Cover won't fit, so I think on heavy rain days, water is getting in and killing bulb. Oil sender unit from Prosport failed, replacement is doing fine. Again, not that uncommon. Getting Subaru Bucks together for y-pipe/midpipe in spring, and will be the final mod other than wear items for the wagon. Although the current setup is so quiet and without leaks, not sure if I want to bother or not for another 20WHP up top, hehe. Very pleased with the mods I did, still putting a huge smile on my face when driving even after a year. Car has carried my racing kayak down onto beaches, have had five people in it, carried two Christmas trees (one on roof, one in car), Was borrowed by friend for IKEA run and stuffed to the gills along with sofa on roof... The one thing I haven't done was actually race the damn thing after all the latest mods! Did more with it when I was stock, a booo. Will be corrected this season for certain. Beanboy
Approaching two years. Nothing much to add other than getting some RE960AS tires. Oil pressure sensor wiring gave up recently, exposed right close to the sensor. Still thinking about y-pipe one of these days. Headers are looking a bit grungy, curious how long they will last. Being MadDad, hoping for a least a couple of more seasons. -B http://www.standardshift.com
Beanboy
Four years and still running fine. Have a few leaks in the header and the gauges currently have sending wire issues. -B http://www.standardshift.com
Beanboy
Coming up on five years and still running fine. Do have the beginnings of some transmission noise which will be on the list this summer. Car has been put on active 50+ mile a day commute duty. Great timing! Other than ProSport gauge issues (not going to use them again), I think the build worked out really well. Sad to see DSG go, but their creation will live on! -B http://www.standardshift.com
