It's heavy, that's what is so surprising. Well surprising isn't the right word, disappointing is. That motor is not very heavy and neither is the transmission. (although it could stand to lose a 100 or so itself) But really, I don't hear people crying that the 550i weighs 3800lb.. and the Audi A6 4.2 weighs 4222 lbs. Its a big, fast car that is going to out handle any of its domestic competition and start giving some of the foreigners a run for their money.
