OK...

Just sold my truck, after about 6-7 months of trying to get someone to buy it...

I have enough money to do the three big current things.

1. pay down almost a third of the loan on the Legacy.

2. buy the last few parts of my Cat-back exhaust... just some measuring to do, and I am on the way...

3: BUY SUMMER WHEELS AND TIRES. I am pretty much set on General Exclaim UHP tires, they are cheap enough that if I don't like them I can get new ones next year, but everyone seems to like them that has them.

The wheel debate: ( need to keep the package wheel/tire package near 1000$. No 300+ dollar wheels.)

I have narrowed it down to three strong candidates, although I will take suggestions of other wheels. Chances are I have already looked at them, and dismissed them, but feel free to try to suprise me.

The Mesh-design candidate:

5-zigen Heidfeld Mesh. The ones Mdork might be getting rid of...

http://aycu40.webshots.com/image/9679/2001429398324636328_rs.jpg

Hyperblack is a slight bit darker:

http://www.revolutionperformance.com/product/images/10-1HeidfeldMesh_Hyperblack.jpg

Size: 18x7.5 et48, 225/40-18 tires

Colors: hypersilver, or hyperblack.

minuses: spoke disc is outboard of tire, curb magnet. The design is good, but it is no BBS RGR...

***********************************

The split 5-spoke candidate: Rota Torque.

I am going toward hyper-silver or matte silver, so that limits it to 17x8, which isn't so bad. It might be a little bit of pothole insurance. I am considering hyperblack, but I don't want overly dark wheels.

Silver, 17x8

17x8 hypersilver

18x8 torque, supposedly hyperblack, but looks pretty light...

http://www.subydude.com/gallery/ul/index.php/550/600/gallery/1789_3.JPG

Size: 17x8 et48, 235/40-17 tires.

colors: hypersilver, silver, maybe hyperblack.

minuses: not as flashy, 17" diameter looks close to stock, but 8" width is bonus. 18" doesn't come in many colors...

*************************************

The multi-spoke candidate. Rota Tarmac II.

I have not been keen on radial ten-spoke wheels, but mostly because, like the Tarmac 3, the spokes curve inward at the end. The Tarmac 2 does not. The Exel wheels I had were 10-spokes, and painted very dark. I liked the design, but wasn't in love with the completely DARK color, or the 10-hole hub. They somehow look structurally weak and visually generic to me.

The full royal steel grey, or full royal gunmetal, both with bright machined face treatment actually look pretty good. I love the reversing curvature of the spokes, all the way to the rim edge, and the deep center.

I am considering the dark shadow-painted wheels, due to the mixed black and bright polished aspects to the rest of the car, like the headlights, grille, and the chrome line around the tail lights... I might even consider the chrome-line door sill panels, if they look good between bright wheels.

FR Steel Grey

FR Gunmetal

http://www.subydude.com/gallery/ul/index.php/550/600/gallery/1049_2.JPG

Size: 18x7.5, et48 225/40-18

Colors machined face with grey or charcoal shadow.

minuses: not 8" wide..., if it had 7 spokes instead of ten, it would be a knockout... will the style look dated soon?

--------------------------------------------

So, what do you guys think? What would look best, now and in the future, on this car.

It had 18" dark summer wheels, which are sold, currently wears OE 17" wheels/snow tires.

well, it is one of the top three design candidates... and my wife is wanting me to pick something and quit talking about this topic in her presence. :D

give me a couple days to sleep on which design I want, you can decide what you want to do... and throw me a price, (with or without tires, whichever you choose... but we'll have to see what it would cost to ship, compared with buying new from a vendor. Shipping charges could eat up the "used" margin pretty quick...)

what were the dimensions and price on those ROH adrenaline wheels?

I thought about those, but I couldn't really find a price... and I had a slight feeling that they might be a bit over my budget. They are a little more dynamic looking than the Rota Torques... and they look fantastic on your car.

Scottybue, I like those enkei wheels on your car, gold and blue... but I am really not feeling that 1000 spoke design on red. Ten radial spokes is really my limit. Thanks for the info, though. :D

no prob dude, I have no problem soldiering on as the only leggy with these awesome wheels... BTW, did you check out the Rota P1's? I was considering them before the Enkei deal came to me. They're the lightest 18's Rota offers. Also, don't forget to lurk the NASIOC classifieds, they often have wheels that will fit us and for a lot cheaper! Check Xenonk's wheel guide for fitment issues. They were 18 x 7 or 7.5...not really positive. You can pick them up for about $150 per wheel.

God I love GRP LGT's....so sexy:wub:

If you are going to go with 17X8's and you like 7 spokes, go with the Rota SDR's in silver. Those are some sick wheels.

If you are going with 18X8's, then I think the Torques are best, bronze would look best on a GRP LGT. Hyperblack would look good too.

One quick question.

I think I saw your car at Lowe's in Davenport a few months ago. Car looks nice. Just wondering where you are from.

"All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer." :spin:

I am thinking that you might be right... unfortunately, but I am not giving up quite yet.

BTW, ponderous, I found Roh's american distributor... The Adrenaline is listed as a 7 inch or 8 inch wide wheel, in both 17 and 18" sizes.

The fact that it comes in 18x8, and in a silver-tone wheel puts it in front of the Rota Torque, which doesn't come in anything brighter than hyperblack in 18x8.

I can't tell whether rota's hyperblack looks light or dark. some pictures show it light, such as the GRP dealer show car I showed above, and others, like El Paalo's car make hyperblack look over-all darker than I would be happy with... I don't want the wheels to disappear into the wheel wells the way the dark exel wheels did. I don't want the car to look too "pimped" nor like the wheels just aren't there, or too dark to see.

I am really liking the GC8 Impreza with the dark-shadow Tarmac 2s, as well... especially with the black lugs, and black center cap as contrast to the bright spokes. Kind of the same vein as the ten spoke Spec B wheels, and the Tuned By STI BBS wheels overseas... The bright polished part really sets it well above other completely dark wheels that I was just mentioning.

I am thinking that the polished/dark effect would look very cool on my red and black car with it's chrome details, but I am not sure if it would appeal to me over time... One could always sell them, though... But I am not looking to become a wheel mogul, and trading around all the time.

The more feedback the better. My mind is "spinning" too fast, and I need a bit of a reality check. :D

I am considering Mdork's heidfeld mesh, but shipping may put it out of my price range, and buying them new over 300$ shipped could put them over, as well.

I like mesh, and always have... but the wrong mesh wheel would be disappointing, and I don't want to be disappointed with this sort of expenditure. If I had more money, I'd be rockin' the RGRs that are for sale here, and DEFINITELY not be dissappointed, but that is too rich for my blood. it is a fine line between finding what I like, and what I can afford. What is new, right?

The wheels and tires for ~$1k, and not much over $1100 maximum, is kinda putting a lid on my choices. Luckily the tires are going to be less than $400, which makes this even possible.

wait for the 17x8.5 torque. get 245/40 17 instead of 235/40 17.

17x8.5 gforce will be out soon also.

Be careful about too much width. I am running 18x8.5s with 235/40 rubber, and I barely have a credit card's thickness between having a high grip car and a hard rubbing machine!

I am not sure how dedicated I am to width... It might be nice, but I am not a racer, and my Legacy probably wouldn't be my race car if I were.

Light weight might trump ultimate width... and looks might trump that.

I am still being drawn fairly hard to the Tarmac IIs, even though they are the most recent candidate. Heidfeld mesh is good, but at or above the budget, Torques are good, but just don't look as dynamic as those tarmacs...

After the 5 boxers and 6 turbos thread, over in the pictures forum, I am smitten pretty hard after seeing this pic.

lowered: check

blacked out healights: check

change the Satin white to Garnet Red, add an RBS front lip spoiler, and hopefully black foglight pockets at some point;

and that is what my car will look like with these wheels.

it is still a bit up in the air until I hear back on some prices, but chances are I'll be making the purchase this week.

Those Tarmacs look awesome, I've always dug them. I definitely like them over the Mesh.:icon_wink ... and you'll spend less money. Plus Tarmacs are pretty light for 18" wheels.

RE: the comment in my thread...

Well, I had avoided this thread since it seems like we are aiming for nearly the same look with our cars. But since you list just about every imaginable wheel in your poll, I was bound to have picked one of them!

It is still a toss up between titanuim chrome and full royal gunmetal/black for me... The titanium bling is growing on me though and I think it will match the rocker panels and headlights better than the brushed/polished(?) face of the FR options.

I'm also struggling with the 17" vs. 18" and the limitation of the 7.5" width. 235/40 or 35 series tires (for 17 or 18, respectively) will offer better rim protection and a slightly shorter overall gear ratio which I like. The reduced sidewall height (94 and 82mm respectively, stock is ~97mm) will improve cornering and road-feel but will make me more cautious on the trails..errr....roads in boston.

However the 225/45 and 40 options offer taller gearing and sidewall height (101 and 90mm) which will both improve the ruggedness and fill the wheel wells a bit better.

Factor in that I use my stock wheels for my wintersport m3's and still have a full set of re92's with <2k miles on them and the decision to go to an incompatible wheel size just compounds the dillema... :(

edit: although now that I think about it, I wouldn't be able to use any 235 series tire on the stock 7" wide rims, so why not step up...

GAH!!! Why does this have to be so difficult!
