Classic stove-top Italian espresso maker (below) + Bustello FTW. Can't go wrong. Can't go cheaper. The coffee is phenomenal.

+1 ... we just got a new Krups and it makes good coffee!
Maybe it's my imagination but the aroma control system - they hold some water with the grounds for a minute or so before releasing it to the carafe - seems to make it taste better.

That said, the Zojirushi has an outer chamber around the filter basket that seems to do the same thing.

If you drink a lot of coffee, the Bunn is neat as the water is pre-heated so you can make a 10 cup pot in three minutes. But it does not have a timer so you can't set it off automatically at 'oh dark thirty.

not your imagination at all....the coffee tastes better when the grounds are allowed to steep for a minute or two. I hit 'start' on mine and wait about 90 seconds before putting the carafe under it to do the same thing.

Nice.

What I like about Nespresso is they use the same quality components in the cheaper ones as they do in the fancy ones

I got mine from American Express for a couple hundred bucks a couple years ago during their rewards wishlist thing. I probably wouldn't drop the full $800 on it outright, but they do have a nice product line. We actually got the in-law a D300

for christmas last year. We've never had any issues with ours and neither have they. I usually get my refills the next day if I order early in the morning so running out isn't really an issue.

I really like their special edition coffee right now, the one that comes in the metallic blue capsule.

We have 2 nespresso stores in the city which are kind of fun to go to.

Their whole vibe is like the Apple of espresso makers.

It's awsome that you can just open the cupboard and have a wide selection of strenghths, flavors and decaff's that can be ready in about 30 seconds with no measuring and no mess. Standing there listening to my coffee maker first thing in the morning is one of the better parts of the day. It's just so reliable, consistant, predictable and delicious you can't beat it. It's really cool when guests are over and you can make everybody their favorite coffee in nothing flat.

Does the machine you have froth milk? If not, the Aeroccino they sell is a great accessory.

Yup, you just press the steam button and it froths the milk. It has a permanent frothing attachment with two froth settings(caffe latte and cappuccino) and it feeds off the same water tank as the coffee. It's quick too. It only takes about 20 seconds for the steam to be ready. I'm a mocha latte junkie so I'm lovin it.:)
