SubLo
OK. I don't get fired up about much but I'm a man on a mission in this case. If you've read my previous thread on this issue, http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=628124#post628124 , you'll see exactly what I'm PO'd about and what I'm trying to do. I tracked down a technician who's been extremely helpful and generous so far. I emailed him my dilema and here was his response: Thanks Freddy I do have some info for you the nav system in your Subby is a FGZ-000UF2 it is not just based on the KNA DV3200 it is a KNA 3200 and a ddx 7015 with menus made specifically for Subaru 2 people have already done my mod them I am sending you 2 files the first is my how to guide with only the pics of the mod and not the screenshots the second is a service manual for your FGZ-000UF2 Nav system the mod is done the same way on your system but the last guy asked me for it so he could be sure he was messing with the right wires If your really crafty I heard you could add a composite video and audio input by adding a few parts to your systems circuit board but I don't know how to do it myself good luck if you have any questions my door is always open Stefan I realize that Spec.B and '06EAT w/Navi owners are a minority here. I'm sure that community will be growing and I'm know I'm not the only one who is passionate about making these changes. I'm a Sys Admin with Perl, PHP, MySQL, and JavaScript knowledge and am sure I could figure out how to hack the damned thing If I could just figure out how to get in there. I've posted the document and FGZ-000UF2 manual on my site. I've yet try any of this stuff - do so at your own risk. Jon in CT
A/V input is a secondary thought. Yes, I want to reprogram/tweak the factory options. The change I want most is the ability for a passenger to enter addresses, etc. which the car is moving. Can your man get his hands on the service manual for the navigation unit that sits under the driver's seat? I suspect it holds the processor that prevents data entry while moving. The change I want most and am desperate for is to ditch the stupid accelleration and multiple fuel consumption gauges. I'm desperate to replace them with Boost and EGT gauges. How sweet that would be! And for those that suggested it, no I'm not interested in installing some aftermarket system but thanks. I like the full intergration of the stock unit. I just emailed him and asked him. Feel free to ask him questions too. His email address is in that hack document. I just wouldn't want him spammed. I found him through some of his posts on mp3car.com. I'll let you know what I find. ________________________________________________ '05 BSM OBXT Row-your-own, W.I.P. '06 Shrek B # 64 - The car the wife loved to hate :( Sold...

This is friggin fantastic news!!!! If I can do the camera trick, eliminate the EULA, and program the boost gauge, I'll be happy as a pig in ****. Now that I think about it, and taking a cursory look at that service manual, I'm beginning to think that there is a seperate Subaru ECU module somewhere feeding an AUX input on that thing providing the gauges, mileage, etc. Or is it a combo of the DVDs and some line input? I'll have to take it apart, maybe this weekend, to see. ________________________________________________ '05 BSM OBXT Row-your-own, W.I.P. '06 Shrek B # 64 - The car the wife loved to hate :( Sold...

SubLo
can you get the service manual for the dvd rom drive and the 6 disc head unit? The DVD ROM Drive/NAVI under our seats is the KNA 3200. The operational manual is in the Forum somewhere. For the service manual and CD changer service manual, as I mentioned in my PM (this is an FYI for others), open my posted document and email Stefan for your needs. The guys is unbelievably helpful an friendly. He's an installation tech BTW. I can't thank him enough. He just sent me the DDX 7015 service manual for comparison with the FGZ-000UF2. They're nearly identical. Now if you want to see all the gory details of hooking up the computer to the Kenwood he did, check out his thread here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=60261&highlight=kenwood+service+manual ________________________________________________ '05 BSM OBXT Row-your-own, W.I.P. '06 Shrek B # 64 - The car the wife loved to hate :( Sold...

Leonardo
nice trick with the Camera! Now I just need to figure a way to import a Leg GT (or Spec B) here as Subaru won't sell a car with something (like nav) that won't work here in PR but they do send us the frigging cars with a winter pakadge. I might just buy in the states and import myself.
unidentified84
Where did you get the back up camera? for how much? what kind should i get? I WOULD LOVE TO GET ONE!! im just really curious as to how it works.. if it is just a back up camera, how the heck does the car know when you're in reverse?? i would think that there has to be some kind of sensor that tells either the back up camera or the main GPS unit that the car's in reverse or something.. im just really dumb in this area.. no mods needed at all. just have your back up camera plugged in and put it in reverse. just plug in your video jack and press the info button on screen. I don't know where he got the camera but the Kenwood unit is tied into all sorts of sensors on the car already. It's a feature of the unit that SOA didn't exploit. It's all in the manual. No other mods needed. I'm definately doing mine at some point. I'm thinking of casting a custom acrylic (or some other plastic) translucent Subaru badge to replace the one on the trunk and sticking the camera behind it - totally stealth! ________________________________________________ '05 BSM OBXT Row-your-own, W.I.P. '06 Shrek B # 64 - The car the wife loved to hate :( Sold...

SubLo
ahhhhh i get it now.. dumb SOA.. THANKS! any ideas on how u're gonna wire the back up camera from dash all the way to the trunk badge? Nope not really but I'll get it done. The cameras are typically pretty small. I just got the car a month ago and there's so much going on personally and so many mods to do. I'm trying to sell a coop and buy a house simultaneously, keep a full-time job, a marriage, pay lots attention to our kid, and run a coop board. I'm in the middle of doing a custom fiberglass sub-box (pixors to come) and replace all the speakers. There's little spare time right now. By biggest concern is how to cast and duplicate the badge and have enogugh translucence. The last thing I want to do is drill a hole in the sheet metal (yeach!). ________________________________________________ '05 BSM OBXT Row-your-own, W.I.P. '06 Shrek B # 64 - The car the wife loved to hate :( Sold...

X-Lead
I had Subaru install the Satnav option for me, but I'm wondering if they have cut some corners. My car has the McIntosh audio and I assumed that they would somehow hook into that. The navigation audio is very quiet, and appears to be coming from another speaker mounted behind the dashboard I took one of their test cars that had the Satnav fitted and although it only had the regular sound system fitted - the Satnav was nice and loud and mutes the radio/CD when speaking to you. Mine doesn't do that, and you can't hear it at all if you are doing more than about 80km/h Any ideas?
