rice_rocket
Big ones.. Actually I just had in my toolbox a bunch that I have used in the past. I believe I used some M10 4" bolts, threaded it up and cut it short.

hogmeat
Nice crackle and pop when it hits the top of the RPM's. I'm behind the times (since I'm poor) - are the LGT's now 2.0L? Gawnshanning
Just did this to my legacy 2.5i. Sounds much more sporty! Paid 1.66 for 8 galvanized washers and did it in about 15 mins (bolts weren't rusted to bad ) and its about 10 degrees with windchill. Loving cheap mods

Max Capacity
Go buy some 2" long 3/8 bolts nuts and washers and just bust the old off. Get some anti-seize compound from the auto parts store and put it on the new hardware. In fact put it on every nut or bolt you put on the car. I even do all the lug nuts on every car I work on. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. JMLegacy
Yesterday another leggy owner at the garage said, yo man, i plan to get mine piped too (exhaust) how much did yours cost? this guy is telling me $xxx I told him less than 1 dollar. lol. Today someoen else complemented me about it also, my other mechanic. Best thing about this mod is the ability to turn it on and off at such low cost = free
Mendozer
I think I may be the first to report a Hog-Zawst failure  Turns out after about 3 years, and awesome Canadian winters, the hardware holding the muffler to the Y-pipe finally failed! I don't blame Hog-Zawst...I blame the operator (me). Why buy cheap hardware? Anyways, 5 min run to the store...$3 later and Hog-Zawst is fixed. Again with the same cheap hardware, but the way I see it, this will buy me another 2 years  This time I upgraded to stage 3 rather than the mediocre stage 2 I had previously = AWESOME  And Hog-Zawst failure number 2 the LH hdw finally let go. Those lasted about 4 years...not too shabby... Quick run to the hardware store. Should be fixed by the evening  Still digging the sound soooo many years later. sabotaged
so has anyone gone from a hogzaust to a straight pipe axleback? like this one from nameless performance (http://shop.namelessperformance.com/2005-2009-legacy-gt-muffler-delete-axleback). I'm wondering if there's any big difference in sound. I've had a stage 3 hogzaust for a few years now but a straight pipe axleback has me interested

Rush600
I got my legacy on tuesday. We bought It used from NC. It has 135,000 miles on it so the bolts were basically rust rods. Pb blaster did nothing. I ended up using a grinder and grinding the bolts right off. It took a while but at least it sounds amazing! All of my friends are jealous! fahr_side
I used to laugh at this cheapskate mod but I did find a good use for it. If you're not sure if your exhaust is too restrictive, try this before spending money on aftermarket systems. Last year I was stuck at around 305whp and couldn't figure out what was holding me back. Intercooler didn't help, neither did more boost. Not sure if the exhaust was the culprit, (I had a catted DP and 3" midpipe into the stock muffler) I tried the washers. Instant 10g/s increase in airflow and similar gain in peak whp. That made the decision to go to a bigger muffler much easier to justify. Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs. subarurally
Well, got bored today and did the "Hog-zawst" mod. I'm liking the nice throaty sound it gets now   Up on ramps: %5Bimg%5Dhttp%3A//legacygt.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1699&pictureid=8586[/img] Before: %5Bimg%5Dhttp%3A//legacygt.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1699&pictureid=8585[/img] After: (used three 3/8th inch washers on each bolt, both sides) %5Bimg%5Dhttp%3A//legacygt.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=1699&pictureid=8584[/img]  Video of before and after: [ame]www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlyxYSHl3gw[/ame] Edited July 9, 2013 by subarurally
