  1. When I was working in Italy years ago, a buddy of mine had a rental Renault wagon with a really pronounced "hang." I always made fun of him for it, because the car made it sound like he had no idea how to drive a stick. Until one day when I drove his car, and I realized it was just the car. My rental was a Peugot 206. What a blast that little thing was, for a teeny FWD.
  2. Good luck. Sincerely hope it staves off any future 5MT issues.
  3. True. Mine remains unconnected after two-ish years. I keep saying I'm going to get a DCCDPro, but... other priorities.
  4. Swapping my failing 5MT to a 6MT at 35k-ish miles made the difference between me selling my car and keeping it as long as I have.
  5. You can use an STi shifter or a Spec B shifter with the 6MT. They're interchangeable, as long as you get the correct boot. STi boot goes with STi shifter, Spec B boot goes with Spec B shifter. They only real difference is how the boot attaches to the shift lever itself. You can make it work either way (I did), but you'll make it easier on yourself if you get the right one.
  6. ^ last car was a Prius. Knows everything about ICE exhaust systems.
  7. I seem to remember seeing photos of that somewhere in this thread... the shift lever not quite centered in the surround.
  8. There is next to no difference between the STi and Spec.B STS. I have a '10 STi transmission and a Spec.B STS from Cobb. The difference between the two shifters is in how the shift boot attaches... nothing more.
  9. Phew... I thought I was going to have to say it. "Spool," or whatever concept you're trying to describe by talking about larger blades & momentum, just has no application here.
  10. YOu can't do this either. I test first by connecting a hair drier with large electric inverter under the hood connect to the batter with large-gauge cables. This is the only way to power 1.8kW hair dryer for the intake. Results were not as good as I expect. I saw increase in boost but I think the hot air makes a problem for the intake. This is my stage3 but I will look at OP's solution instead.
  11. I have a 2010 STi trans, with no controller installed. As FS indicated, I have none of the binding I remember from my '04 STi with the factory DCCD controller, when in a setting other than AUTO.
  12. 2004 USDM STi 6MT has DCCD. Not sure about JDM, but I would assume it does.
  13. IIRC, the shift lever is only different because of the way the boot connects (part #19). They're mechanically interchangeable. I have an email from Cobb somewhere on that. I have a 2010 STI 6MT and a Cobb STS, but I kept my LGT surround & boot. I had to rig the boot connection to mate up with the shifter.
  14. I ended up with a low-mileage '10 STi 6MT... and shortly after the install, two Spec.B boxes came up for grabs, and cheap. Meh.
  15. I've heard that the STi & LGT pitch stops don't differ much in terms of stiffness. I reused my 5MT pitch stop on the STi 6MT.
  16. No... no DCCD there. SBT, glad to hear you're getting sorted, finally. I've still heard nothing out of Vanquish. My STi 6MT, however, is still rock solid.
  17. That sounds exactly like mine did... except I had no grinding or shifting problems. 6MT fixed my issue.
  18. Jeeez--I really put more faith in them. I was even going to throw them some dyno business at one point. I'll call them when I can.
  19. No corrosion in FL. I've changed suspension & sway bars three times each & I've never used more than an 18" BB. SBT--did you ever sort out that 5MT?
  20. Good info... interesting choice for a first post. I'm running a WRX R160, with no immediate plans to swap out rear diffs, but this is a, ahem, unique option.
  21. Therefore, 5MTs are as strong as 6MTs.
  22. ...he posted, in the "5MT Transmission Failure(s)" thread. Facts, hyperbole, or otherwise... the irony here is unmistakable.
  23. I think I've found the problem... it's simple reading comprehension... so, quick check: Try and find anywhere in my last few posts where I've said the 5MT is weak. The closest I came is to say it's more prone to failure than the 6MT. I don't even want them to be weak, as you claim. I'm just asking for some evidence that the 5MT is as strong as the 6MT. And as much as I ask, I just keep getting anecdotes about 5MT failures. Hmm. Sensitivity may be playing a larger part of this than I'd imagined. So I've got it. It's alright. I don't think I can learn anything else from this discussion. I'm good, thanks.
