Volvo Forum Discussion About Legacy Safety

Recommended Posts

Wow, there were certainly some defensive posts there. But I guess you can't blame them -- Volvos are bought primarily for their safety and the owners pride themselves in having the "safest" vehicles. However, that safety edge has narrowed considerably in the last decade.

That comment about having the lowest death rates is interesting. Volvos as a whole attract risk-averse consumers because they market safety. These drivers probably will drive conservatively regardless of the make they drive. It's not the car, it's the driver.

Volvo does spend more money than anyone on safety. Name another company that has debut a safety concept car at a car show.

Volvo owners are just as defensive as Subaru owners. Just look at the AWD threads.

has someone posted this on the volvo forums?

two 18 wheelers and one of them carrying liquid.

Rescue workers say one man involved in the accident is lucky to be alive. Investigators say a tanker truck carrying liquid nitrogen rear-ended a silver Subaru, pushing it under another tractor-trailer.

He was treated and released from Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Police say the driver of the tanker, Keith Kuffler of Louisiana, was driving too fast for traffic conditions."

Subaru either meets or exceeds the safety of Volvo in all competing car lines.

Some time ago I remember someone on these forums was trying to find an article he had read about the Subaru Tribeca's having to be structurally enhanced to meet US safety regulations before it could be sold here? If that is true, then I find it hard to believe that Subarus are so inherently safe to begin with...

Ofcourse it did... it was built from a legacy chassis. A beefier Legacy will ofcourse need a beefier structure to match. It's not like the Tribeca was sold in Japan and imported here so they had to beef it up. The Tribeca is built for America and in America. It hasn't launched to the rest of the world yet.

That WRX between the two trucks was similar to an accident my dad had. He was in a Volvo 244 GLT (not in the US), he was stopped behind a semi-truck. Then a logging truck over carrying by one full log was doing about 30+ mph but couldn't stop especially due to the wet road. Both trucks hit above the bumper and pushed in about a foot on front and on the back. The sheetmetal was replaced and the car continued to run until it was over 200,000 miles on the original engine and transmission neither of which was ever rebuilt. It got sold to a Volvo mechanic. That car was also rear ended by a Honda Accord. It suffered a crack taillight and scratched bumper. The Accord was taken away undriveable on a flatbed.

Freaking Nice! :icon_roll I need to get myself psyched up to deal with these sort of comments for when I buy a Legacy GT and people start saying this kind of crap to my face. I already get looks when I fold my 6'2" not-slim self into a mazda miata... i guess this is just another case of ignoring the false-impressions of others...

I think I am gonna have to mod my future legacy to look agressive enough that no one would think that off hand. It is rediculous that people do think that offhand about subaru... but then SOA target advertises with LGBT media outlets... whaddya gonna do...

And so it begins... If they are so obsessed with safety, why aren't they driving up-armored H1 Hummers, or Abrams Tanks? They're safe!

Just havin' a little harmless fun... :munch:

Why don't you just put a bumper sticker on your car that says "GOD HATES FAGS" You can get these at many "christian" hate groups. Course some might think You were very deep in the closet. Or, dress li ke a skin head, oops! might be a leather man Or -----------

those guys are proud nobody was ever killed in a 240. If I drove a tank on the road, I'd never worry either. Heck, you'd be lucky to get going fast enough to exceed the speed limit.

I think I am going to post this over there...

From the beginning of time-1940 no one was killed in a Subaru, in fact, Subarus are so safe, there weren't any wrecks then. So Subarus today must be the safest cars EVAR!!!!!

volvo

In one of its television commercials, the Volvo car company showed a monster truck rolling over a row of cars, crushing every one except the Volvo. It turned out however, that the Volvo had been reinforced with steel beams and the frames of the other cars had been weakened. Volvo ran newspaper ads to apologize and paid Texas (the state where the ad was shot) $316,250 to avoid a deceptive advertising lawsuit.
