wcbjr
Is the fuel tank under the rear seat? I need to ground my system in the trunk and want to drill into the side of the spare tire well. Just want to make sure not to drill into anything important. I forgot what I was supposed to remember.
sandwood
yes, it is. if you pull out the bottom cushion from the rear seat you get access to the fuel pump assembly. getting out of the legacy game
rao
Why drill at all, there are plenty of places to put a ground back in the trunk or under the rear seat. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
wcbjr
I want the ground to be as short as possible. The amps are sitting on a carpeted board on top of the spare tire. I cannot run the cable under the trunk mat because it is a 0 gauge cable. So I want to have a 1-2 foot cable terminating on the side of the spare tire well. I forgot what I was supposed to remember. rao
I'd go 1-2 feet to the rear seat supports or the seat belt anchors. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT

PGT
I used a JL master grounding lug kit. I drilled a small hole in the lower edge of the spare tire well, all the way forward and to the left. Looking at Manville Smith's pics, that's where they did his car as well. Oh...make sure you use a wire wheel and strip the paint down to bare metal. Also, a smear of silicone over everything (inside and out) should be used.
mbacis
I grounded in the spare tire well also. Sanded down the area and used a self tapping screw.
mccorry
I'd NEVER drill on a new car! Talk about places for rust to start.... Why don't you pour some salt water on it, while you're at it!

wcbjr
It's most likely going to get grounded on the license plate side, or gas filler neck of the tire well. I forgot what I was supposed to remember.

Boulderguy
And what's wrong with grounding into the gas tank?? I thought liquid was a good conductor...
msmith
You can also spray paint on after you have tightened the ground connection and then hit it on the underside of the car with a spray-on rustproofer.
